Rating: Summary: well written, marvelously funny Review: Recommend this to anyone. Hilarious. Could hardly put the book down. Keyes is a talented writer. Anxious to read her next book.
Rating: Summary: Please Marian, hurry with your next one... Review: Leaving my home country I bought Rachel's Holiday as one of my leaving presents from my old work (book token). What a delight! I lent it all around to my friends and when my sister came to visit she read it during her holiday. Then... to my delight she bought me Marian's 2 other books respectfully for Christmas and birthday. Although Rachel's was my favourite, Watermelon and Lucy Sullivan are top also. All very different but what a great connection - the writing style and Ms Keyes' great descriptions. My favourite in Watermelon of when Claire is expecting to see James returned, sitting there in a dinner suit, hair greased down and smoking from a long cigarette holder..."my wife I presume". MK please please hurry with your next one, all the other authors are poor substitutes.
Rating: Summary: a witty feel-good book Review: one of the funniest reads of the nineties
Rating: Summary: Like talking to a friend after she's had a few. Great fun! Review: It's been a long time since I've found a book that I've so thoroughly enjoyed. It's kind of a Maeve Binchy thing, but a little "earthier" and the people aren't quite as perfect. I've already given my copy to a friend and I'm on Amazon to order one for my mom. Just loved it!
Rating: Summary: funny Review: This book was very very very humourous - I was laughing throughout the ENTIRE thing....there is one problem though - LIKE NOTHING HAPPENS - I think if the author had mixed her humor with a bit more plot I could have enjoyed this 416 page novel Immensely, but I didnt
Rating: Summary: Rip roaring fun - A must!!! Review: If you are looking for a book with lots of laughs and lots of tears, but which makes you look at life differently, then this is definitely the book for you! This is the first book that I have ever laughed out loud at, as well as cry! The follow ups are just as good and I would definitely recommend 'Rachel's Holiday' and 'Lucy Sullivan is getting married'.
Rating: Summary: Marion Keyes books save Aussie on a bus trip through Europe! Review: How lucky I was to chance across "Rachel's Holiday' while working in London and travelling to work each day on the double-decker bus 83! I was so upset at arriving at work each day as I had to put the book down. Since then I have chased down the other two EXCELLENT books by Marion Keyes and I just can't wait for the next book! "Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married" kept me entertained when I was travelling long hours on a bus through Europe. I had to give to my friend (hi Kate!) and sister (hi Britt!) copies of the books to share the laughs. "Watermelon" saw me through the 24 hour trip back to Asutralia and now I am devastated without my Marion Keyes books! Keep writing!
Rating: Summary: This book is more like 3 and a half stars Review: This isn't the best book ever, not even the best book I ever read, not even close. However it is worth reading, especially if a good laugh will make you a little forgiving about certain weak spots in the book. And this book does provide a good laugh. Several, in fact. I can say this about Watermelon: It's hilarious. Really. Literally laugh out loud. I think that stands on its own. Give it a try....and don't be put off when you're first reading it, if it seems a little TOO over the top: the book eventually find a rhythm and carries it well towards the (predictable) ending.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious, "on the money" description of betrayal by a Cad Review: Claire is me in a very similar situation! After the initial fog - the climb back up to reality was NOT without it's humorous moments!I'm happy that the friend who turned me on to this author is able to have her books shipped to her from Ireland - "Lucy Sullivan" is JUST as enchanting, and "Rachel's Holiday" is said to be the funniest one of the bunch!!
