Summary: Too Funny!
Review: I could not put this fun book down! It really made me laugh and I loved the story. Good Read!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Funny fast read
Review: I was looking forward to reading "Watermelon" as I have been in a similar situation to Claire myself. I found it to be a really good light (but not trashy) read. The book is written as if Claire is talking to you, which means you really identify with her and all her insecurities. It was great when Claire realized that she was fine just the way she was and that she didn't need anyone in her life who couldn't accept that. Claire's family were excellent secondary characters, I can't wait to read "Rachel's Holiday" to hear more about them. Adam seemed a bit too good to be true, or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places! The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that I have also read "Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married" and it had quite a lot more plot and was heaps longer than "Watermelon". Marian Keyes' books are so enjoyable to read, it's disappointing to have them end as quickly as "Watermelon" did.

Summary: I love this book!
Review: This book turned me into a Marian Keyes fan for life. I read this book in one sitting... I could not put it down. This is the perfect book to take on vacation and reading while relaxing in the sun.

Sit back with a maitai... suntan lotion... a big towel... and enjoy. =)

Summary: quirky, funny -- a good read
Review: I had just come off reading the Trials of Tiffany Trott and wasn't in a mood for another "Poor me, Why am I single?" book. And at first, that's what I thought I was getting. But I gave Claire a chance (and the writing style -- it took me a while to get used to that kind of narrative) and I ended up really liking her and the book. The characters and quick prose kept me very interested. I wouldn't recommend this book to someone looking for a serious piece of literature, but if you're looking for something fun and light -- this book is great!

Summary: If you want a good laugh. . .
Review: I love books that make me laugh out loud and this one certainly did. Marian Keyes has created a wonderful story that makes you care about what really happens to Claire. So much so that I was truly sitting there with bated breath when James came to Dublin to bring her home and then elated at the very end with the right-on conclusion. I'm waiting on Lucy Sullivan Gets Married from the libary right now.

Summary: This book made me laugh and cry, it was great!
Review: Watermelon by Marian Keyes is one of the best books I have read in the past few years. The plot was very true to life with such a positive outlook to the future! All of the characters were so unique and quirky. They all brought something special to the story. I highly recommend Watermelon to anyone who wants a heartfelt, funny book!

Summary: A good man now a days is hard to find
Review: If you wonder why the book is called Watermelon, it's because Claire is 40 lbs overweight and looks like a watermelon. But after her husband James leaves her for another woman, she recoveres composure, drops 40 lbs, finds a man who is younger better looking, and even better in bed than James. But why did James leave Claire? This is such a unlikely thing that it is barely believable, that any man would leave a wife the day after she gives birth, and more unbelievable that he would want to come back. This raises the question that these are caricatures not real life people, and it is all done specificlly for laughs.

Another question needs an answer - is Claire an alcoholic or just a heavy social drinker. She was brought home drunk at age 15 Drinks the family liquor supply and replaces it with water Is arrested in an illegal drinking place. While at home after being deserted she drinks a lot, and then we discover that she is not drinking as much as she used to. These are not good signs and one has to wonder how to tell the difference between a drunk and a person who takes a drink once in a while when there is stress in life.

Claire made a mistake to marry James, and I suspect that she is making another mistake to think about dating Adam a 24 year old single parent. Are there no good men in England or Ireland that she has to hook up with a bunch of losers?

Summary: Lovely book, this is.
Review: I loved it! Hilarious. I could find bunch of "James" here and there so that his predictable behaviors were so funny!! (Though I work with lawyers, they are just as boring as accountants.) I wish I could find "Adam" around! I am looking forward to reading her other books soon.

Summary: A funny, wry look at one woman's breakup
Review: A sassy, funny, ironic yet sweet look at the aftermath of a break-up. The bare bones of the plot are anything but unusual: husband has affair, leaves wife for other woman, wife learns to cope -- but the main character's voice is so entertaining as she riffs on everything from motherhood to oral sex to depression that you are utterly entertained.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Absolutely wonderful
Review: Watermelon was simply enchanting. One of the funniest and most deeply felt books I've ever read. I am only seventeen years old, but I found myself relating to the main character, in her feelings of hopelessness and happiness. It hit very close to home. The humor kept me reading day after day; I couldn't stop reading this book. Very enjoyable. I can't wait to read more books by Marian Keyes. If you like true-life situations, quirky characters, and lots of good laughs, this book is for you.
