Summary: Need Something to Bring to the Beach - Here it is
Review: What a lot of fun this book is to read. Marion Keyes has written a hilarious story with a completely sympathetic protagonist. Poor Claire manages to tell her sad story--her husband walks out on her the day their first child is born--and make it into a breezy, funny romantic comedy. Watermelon is a wonderfully light novel (nothing heavy here, if you are looking for that, look elsewhere) that will have you laughing and telling everyone how funny it is. In the end, Claire's no good husband comes back and, well I won't spoil the ending, but let's just say Claire must choose between her husband and the hunky younger man she's met. The story will not disappoint and will keep you reading. Enjoy!

Summary: Funny, Funny, Funny!
Review: Watermelon is an excellent first novel. The main character, Claire, tells the story of how she learns to move on with her life after her husband, James, leaves her the day she gives birth to their daughter. Claire is a lighthearted character, and even when she's in tremendous pain over the deception and betrayal of her husband, she tells the reader all about it in a very comical manner. Claire's family, an odd and entertaining bunch themselves, are very supportive and loving while she heals from her pain and waits to see what will become of her marriage. And Adam, a handsome, younger man also helps Claire heal and see herself in a very different light. Claire has a witty, endearing voice that will make you love her immediately. The story itself is very interesting, and is told in a very comical manner, so you won't be able to put the book down. And the ending is very funny. Watermelon is an excellent summer read.

Summary: Funny, Funny, Funny!
Review: I just finished reading Watermelon, and boy was it funny. I loved the main character, Claire, and her zany family. Her story of healing and self-discovery after her husband leaves her and their new-born daughter is touching and funny. When I first started reading Watermelon, I couldn't wait for James (her husband) to come back to her (I'm a sucker for romantic reconciliations). But, as I saw Claire heal and grow with the help of her family and Adam, I didn't really want to see James come back into the picture. I think everyone got just what they deserved in the end. And the ending - well, without giving anything away, that's just the type of thing I'd expect from that crazy Helen! Keyes has a great writing style, and I was hooked on Watermelon from page 1. This was a great first novel!

Summary: Fantastic Book
Review: This was the second book I read of Marian Keyes. I loved Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married, but this was so much better. Not having gone through what Claire went through, I still felt for her, and admired her for the way she dealt with the situation. Her family is not unlike my own and it had a feeling of familiarity that I enjoyed. A great read!

Summary: Witty comedy
Review: I loved this book! It was a pleasure to read, light and enjoyable. The main character is a very successful representation of "everywoman". You won't be able to put this one down and the minute you finish you'll be looking for her next novel.

Summary: Watermelon -- Funny, Charming, and a Good Read
Review: While I liked "Lucy Sullivan..." better, I found Watermelon just as enjoyable. The first-person dialogue is hilarious, and Marion Keyes has a wicked sense of humor. There were some really priceless scenes in this book that make you want to go back and read them again. Great colorful characters with all the little quirks that make good writing. A delightful read. I'd recommend this if you enjoy reading first-person books with a light plot and humor.

I also recommend "Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married" by the same author if you liked this one. Both are superb books.

Summary: Lost the book, and am buying again!
Review: This book is so good, that I left it in the park by mistake and I'm buying it again! Although I haven't finished it, the characters (especially Claire's family) add a real-ness to it. You feel like you don't only know Claire, but her whole family, something which usually gets left out of this type of genre in novels (single girl, newly single girl, etc.). The humor is great and I can totally relate to all the characters. As I am beating myself over the head for misplacing it, buy the book and don't make the same mistake!

Summary: A Great Summer Read!
Review: I adored this book. The characters were very funny and real. I read it on the beach in about a day. A really fun choice for summer. I plan to read more of Marian Keyes' books.

Summary: This book is great!
Review: After having been on a Bridget Jones diet for quite some time now, it was nice to find some additional humor along the same vein. Marian Keyes is very funny. I liked the way she had Claire talk directly to the reader. While this may be somewhat disconcerting to some readers, I felt as though it really allowed you to connect with the character. She uses a similar technique in Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married, which is also funny and I highly recommend.

Summary: A Review Of Watermelon
Review: I read Watermelon not too long ago now and it was fantastic.

It is about a woman called Claire who gets abandoned by her husband, James, just as she's in hospital having her first baby, Kate. He tells her that he's been having an affair with the woman in another flat in the same appartment.

I thought to myself "what a creep, how could he do such a thing, and tell her just after she's had their baby".

James wants nothing to do with Claire at this point and the way Marian Keyes wrote about this series of events, you really feel for the character, and your feel as if she is really alive.

Claire moves to Ireland to live with her parents and sisters. While she is up there, she meets a man who sweeps Claire off her feet. His name is Adam and you can tell right from the beginning that they are going to hit it off.

The way Marian Keyes describes the characters makes you feel for them and the way Adam is described, makes you believe that he is a real person, who really cares for Claire.

They have their ups and downs, but eventually their romance blossoms (even though Claire is slightly older).

Then one day, James goes to Ireland to visit Claire and ask for forgiveness. Claire is torn between Adam, and James. She believes that her baby, Kate should have a father, but is James the right one? Find out when you read this excellent book.

Marian Keyes is a great author, and in my opinion if you havn't read any of her works before then you havn't lived yet! She really brings the characters to life and you feel what the characters are feeling. This book is very emotional, since the characters feelings and emotions are written down so well.

I would say that this book is for adult reading and also teenagers. I'm fourteen years old and have read all of Marian Keyes' books. I would say she is my favourite author.

A round of applause for Marian Keyes, the talented author of Watermelon.
