Rating: Summary: I loved this heartwarming tale of mothers and daughters Review: Even though The Joy Luck Club was probably pretty inaccurate as far as Chinese culture, I still loved it! Few books keep me hooked the way that The Joy Luck Club did. It started out slow but got better and better until the climatic ending. I liked how every story dealt with a different aspect of the relationship between mother and daughter. It made it more interesting when the point of view was changed between the characters. The Joy Luck Club had a lot of deeper meaning and usually the people that don't like the book just can't understand it. It is very rare that I find a book I can really give 5 stars to and The Joy Luck Club deserves every single one of them. I would recommend it to basically anyone that is looking for a book with a lot of more-than-meets-the-eye meaning.
Rating: Summary: An amazing novel that penetrates the truth of four women. Review: "The Joy Luck Club" is an amazing novel that penetrates the truth of four Chinese women and their Americanized daughter. The mother-daughter relationship bonding with memories they inherit from the past. It shows us the cultural difference of the Chinese in America. It was easy for me to adapt to the story because I am a young Asian American growing up with the Chinese culture that I've inherited from my family. I truly understand the dialogue it uses. Along with Amy Tan's other books-"The Kitchen God's Wife" and "The Hundred Secret Sense", it also concentrates on the Chinese culture in America.
Rating: Summary: Never would have thought to read this book Review: If i hadnt been told to read this book in my high school lit. class i never would have picked it up. But i am very happy i did. This book makes me think of my life and how grateful we should all be. It is one of the most well written books i have ever read!
Rating: Summary: I've never found a book that could keep my attention like th Review: This book is just awesome. I had to find a book to read for one of my classes, and I found this one in my highschool library. After the first few sentences I knew this was going to be a great book.
Rating: Summary: You must only be a lover of good books to enjoy this one! Review: This novel is told in a story format from the individual points of view of four mothers from China (who make up the Joy Luck Club) and their four American-born daughters. Just when I thought I understood the daughters more than their mothers, I would read one of the stories from the mothers and change my mind. A valuable insight into the complications betweens generations and cultures, and the inextricable bond that (almost) always prevails. This book speaks volumes about the relationship between mother and daughter. It is sad at times and funny at others, much like our real-life dealings. I never got tired of reading this book- it never stopped surprising me...
