Rating: Summary: One of Terry McMillian's Best Novels Yet Review: My Fiancee and I read this book together on a bus trip and we couldn't put it down. We laughed so hardand there were times when I also cried. I think this book will really touch each person in a different way. There is someone in here for everyone to identify with. The character's were so real. It even reminded us of some people in our own families. It was a real page turner and a great book. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was very detailed. I mean you knew exactly what was going on here. You never had to read between the lines, so to speak. Terry McMillian let you sit up close and personal with each character. If you know what I mean. You'll have to read the book to know excatly what I'm talking about. Real true life issues that go on today. Very realistic. I didn't care much for Charlotte,...I would highly recommend this book to all.
Rating: Summary: A DAY LATE AND A DOLLAR SHORT Review: HATED TO SEE IT END. MADE ME LAUGH & CRY. I HAVE READ ALL OF HER BOOKS & CAN'T WAIT-PLS DON'T MAKE US WAIT TOO LONG-FOR THE NEXT ONE! GREAT IN DEPTH CHARACTER GROWTH, TRULY FEEL LIKE YOU KNOW EACH OF THEM; LIKE THEM, GET MAD AT THEM & CARE ABOUT THEM.
Rating: Summary: GREAT READ! Review: I could hardly put the book down and I was sorry it ended! All the characters came to life on the pages and I loved Viola...she made me realize you have to live life to the fullest and she also made me realize to not feel guilty when you have to tell your kids what they are doing wrong and also praise them when they do good. (even if they are in their 30's) Terry McMillian is a wonderful writer and I enjoy all her books....can't wait for the next one???
Rating: Summary: Family..."You gotta love em" Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It takes you through the trials and tribulations surrounding family members. Readers share the joys, pains, addictions, jealousies and secrets of this family. Ms. McMillian's writing breaks down each character so much that I am able to tell whose voice is speaking from the very first sentence of each chapter. Although I come from a very small family, I can relate to some of this issues that were addressed in this book. This book is long in length, but it is a quick and easy read. It's one of your best Terry.
Rating: Summary: BRAVO !!!!! Review: TERRI MCMILLAN HAS OUTDONE HERSELF AGAIN WITH THIS NOVEL. I STATRED READING THIS BOOK BACK IN MARCH ON SPRING BREAK FROM SCHOOL. EVERY CHANCE I GOT DURING THE SEMESTER I HAD TO READ THE NOVEL. IT MADE ME FEEL AS IF I KNEW THE FAMILY PERSONALLY. THIS IS A BOOK TO HAVE IN YOUR COLLECTION.
Rating: Summary: Not worth your time.... Review: I've never read a Terry McMillan book before because I just watched the movies and was never really interested in reading her books. Reading this one certainly didn't make me want to read another. The only reason I read it is because it was one of my book club selections. This book is very dry, it's toooo detailed and very depressing. It's basically about a mother, her selfish kids and their issues. The first few chapters of this book is the most depressing part because the mother goes on and on and on with unnecessary detail about how her kids and husband have hurt her, themselves or other people. Almost every character in this book, right down to the grandkids has issues. There's humor in this book, also tragedy but it wasn't enough to make up for the poor writing. Also, this was not proofread well because there are an abundance of type errors in it. This was not a good read at all.
Rating: Summary: It hit home Review: This story was so real that I had to call my Mother in Philly just to read the book to her. I told her that I never thought that someone could write a book about her. I am bless that my mother is in good health, however, Vy's mouth, tone, and family values is my momma's. Every morning before and after work I would read several chapters. At first I really didn't like the broken english, but was able to follow the story. I also cried from laughing and sadness. I agree with the others, this will be a great movie. Can't wait!
Rating: Summary: You did a good job Terry! Review: I must admit this book was awesome, rivetting, and definitely quench-thirsting. It definitely reminded me of the movie "Soul Food." I am familiar with Terry McMillian's novels, since reading "Waiting to Exhale" and "Disappearing Acts" when they first hit the shelves almost a decade ago. Terry, "A Day Late and a Dollar Short" is your best work ever! Viola really held down the fort in this book. Paris got on my nerves, reminding me of Vanessa Williams's character in "Soul Food." The other children in the book had so many issues, that every time a new issue will arise, I couldn't wait to come home from work and find out what will happen next. All I can say is if you decide to make a movie out of this book, please use Vivica Fox. I can see her playing Janelle for some reason. Thanks Terry for writing this novel. I truely enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: Terry McMillan is a male basher. Review: If you read all of her books, the males, no matter how young or old are always dysfunctional in some sort of way. This book is no different. Just about every male in this book has some kind of deep dark problem. The one male that she reflects in somewhat of a positive light is Dingus. But even he has a little issue. I always thought that she was overrated and this book is a huge bore. Its showing nothing out of the ordinary at all. Its like reading a diary that is not good. I mean, after I read the book I found myself saying, "who cares?"
