Rating: Summary: Quick read - slightly disappointing Review: Read this book in one session curled up in the chair when you have nothing better to do. Deinitely not to be compared to the "Weight of Water" which I still think about, the Pilot's Wife is an easy read which could have been sensational if the story had been developed some more, however, it still holds the reader even though the storyline is contrived and predictable.
Rating: Summary: A luminous novel, taut and gripping Review: and wholly satisfying. You won't want it to end, and your only consolation when it does will be to turn to the rest of Shreve's marvelous work. She's a brilliant tale-spinner, and a masterful stylist. And she seems to know things the rest of us don't about the human heart.
Rating: Summary: Lighten up folks ! It's a novel, not a history lesson !! Review: I read this book in one sitting and I enjoyed it because it does what books are supposed to do ! Entertain and to make us think " What if..". I personally know that my ex-husband was having other relations and that I did not know him as well as I thought, and he wasn't a member of the IRA ! I think the whole point of the book was to really look at your relationship and to see if this could happen to you. With a 50% divorce rate in the USA, the answer is probably a painful YES !
Rating: Summary: KATHRYN AS A PILOT'S WIFE - WEAK AND UNREALISTIC CHARACTER Review: I feel that Ms.Schreve could have researched the factual data of being a pilot's wife. I was stunned that after 15/16 years of marriage, she had NEVER flown aboard his aircraft. The fact is, that we as spouses and family, have the priveldge of not only accompaning our spouse, but the luxury of extensive traveling. Not only was she naive about his occupation, but not to know who their insurance company/agent was? This lends itself to incredibility. My husband is a captain, his job is flying. With the odd schedules and the physiological punishment on his body, does he have time to manage our finances. Yet, Kathyrn, with an only child, is unable to run to run their household. Truth be known, what is she really doing while her husband is flying? This leads to the portral of Kathyrn as weak, unadventerous and naive. Kathyrn wake up and smell the coffee!!
Rating: Summary: a great read Review: Don't pick this book up until you have time to read it! It is hard to set down once you have begun. I can't wait to read some of Shreve's previous books.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, engrossing read! Review: I read this book in one evening. It was one of those books that I couldn't put down, but at the same time, didn't want to end. Yes, some of it was predictable, but still very entertaining. I'll read more of Shreve's books.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this one down Review: This book had me from the first page. I read it in two days. As I read, I felt like I was actually in the story. Her writing made me feel like I was there. Although I can't relate to the storyline, this really happens in real life and found the story very believable and moving. I didn't want it to end.
Rating: Summary: An Entertaining, Satisfying Read Review: My tip before reading this book--get comfortable! I read this book in two evenings after work; had I bought it on a weekend, I would have read it in one sitting. It's not Pulitzer Prize winning, but Shreve's skillful writing kept me turning the pages until I was finished. Ultimately a very good book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, compelling Review: I have been married to a commercial airline pilot for 33 years. I know that such a situation is not only a possibility....it is documented more than once! The emotions experienced by the main character are real....the dream recurs. This is one book that will stay in my bookcase next to my John J. Nance collection!
Rating: Summary: Exploritive Review: This book held my attention from start to finish. The attention to detail captivated me and I, as a mother, felt the anguish of this woman. A true pleaser for those women who wonder, "What if?".
