Rating: Summary: an easy to read story that has interesting characters Review: The Pilot's Wife is a book that made me consider how well I really know the people closest to me. It really brings home the point that we are each individuals with our own lives, public and private, and ultimately we must answer only to ourselves.
Rating: Summary: A Quick Read, Interesting but not much depth Review: This book will hold your interest. The story is interesting and the author has a good handle on grief and how people react to sudden loss.. I was disappointed in the end of the story,as I think we really gain little insight into the husbands psyche.
Rating: Summary: This book reads like a J Peterman catalog. Review: This book was just one precious scene after another. From the old, ramshackle house they lovingly restored to the fact that they met in an antique shop, for pete's sake. The characters were so flat they seemed to only exist as props in the scenes. I felt none of the pain one would expect to feel when a wife loses a husband. I was greatly disappointed, as I often am by what passes for literature in modern america.
Rating: Summary: A Fairly Good Pool Side Book -But Don't Get Your Hopes Up Review: Although I was not as intrigued by The Pilot's Wife as others seemed to be (and as Oprah thought we would), it was a fairly decent book to read in order to relax. The characters were not well drawn out, the book was extremely predictable and had such an abrupt ending. The flashbacks were somewhat confusing at times because once the author returned you to present time, you didn't know exactly what day it was! I am however, peaked to read the author's Weight of Water.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully written, but very disturbing story Review: I've read most of Oprah's book picks, and this one was certainly less depressing than most of her suggestions, but it was very disturbing nonetheless. I found it quite upsetting that you could live with someone for so many years and not have a clue that he was leading a totally separate life. The book is beautifully written, though, and impossible to put down. I read it in a day!
Rating: Summary: I could not put this book down!!!!! Review: I read this book in two days! I wish all books were like this one and I would like a part two! This book made me laugh, cry, and smile. And it really made you stop and think how life can throw you a curve ball. The best book I have read in a long time, I felt like I was at the movies it was so well written.
Rating: Summary: Attention all wives!! Read this book! Review: How true it is...life isn't always as it seems. An example of what life might turn into if you aren't careful. One especially haunting passage describes that she just thought that's what two people who had been married a decade did - fell in love first and then just loved each other. Yet she knew so very little about her husband. How close to home this comes for most of us!
Rating: Summary: A lesser read than previous picks Review: I was rather disappointed by The Pilot's Wife. I had grown accustomed to a certain level of literature from the Oprah picks. The Pilot's Wife read more like Danielle Steele than a quality read. I found it predictable, and undeveloped.
Rating: Summary: A moving, passionate novel about love and betrayal Review: This is a book I could not stop reading. I enjoyed the style of Shreve's writing; the way the reader is in a constant state of suspense; the passion of the characters; and the peaceful beach setting that belies the turbulence of the plot. This is a must read for those who love mystery and romance.
Rating: Summary: This book starts great. Review: The story draws you in immediately. I enjoyed reading the book and seeing this womans journey. The prooblem that I had was that as the book went along the husbands character changes so much that I found it hard to believe.
