Rating: Summary: Felt compelled to vote and bring down the book's average Review: Reading the back cover of this book, I thought it would be exciting. I kept waiting for the descriptions of grief and emotion to stop so that the Tom Clancey intrigue could begin. What a disappointment. Find another book to read.
Rating: Summary: Great. Review: This book was short and sweet. I could not put it down. This book goes to the sole and transforms it to feel like you are there. Wonderfully written. I would read it again and give it to my mother and my best girl friend. Amanda.
Rating: Summary: This book was a very well-written MASTERPIECE Review: I felt that "The Pilot'sWife" was a well written masterpiece. There were so many set-ups and pay-offs; they are too innumerable to mention here. I loved the foreshadowing, and the subtly that the writer was able to fuse in the most ostentatious manner. I particularly loved the author's most descriptive sense of the many facets of grief of the loss of a spouse. The way the story unfolded (concerning the major plot line) was phenomenal. The big pay-off was a delight to read. I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Graceful Woman, Graceful Book Review: I just sat next to Anita Shreve at an author luncheon. She is a lovely person and has written a graceful, emotion-filled book. It was also fun talking to her about her experiences on the Oprah show, where real women who found out that their men led double lives were interviewed.Pilot's Wife reveals itself in small doses, as the heroine remembers those small hints of something not quite right - hints that are glaringly obvious in retrospect. The ending was startling, with the promise of a better future. Is there a romance in the future?
Rating: Summary: The Pilot's Wife was fantastic Review: This book filled me an engaging feeling of melancholy and dread from the first page. You can't help but be sucked into its clutches and go along for the ride.
Rating: Summary: Painfully dull -- NOTHING HAPPENS HERE! Review: I just finished this dull, dull, dull book, just read the last dull sentence and closed the dull covers (actually, the covers are the most interesting thing here, which just goes to show you that you can't judge a book by, well, you know). Maybe it's a woman's book, but I hate to say that and therefore insult the taste and intelligence of women. I'm not giving anything away when I tell you that this is the story of a woman who becomes a widow and has to deal with the tragedy of her husband's death. We learn all that within the first ten pages. It takes another 200 pages before anything -- I mean ANYTHING -- else happens. And what does happen is both predictable and dumb. It's a bad book, folks. Avoid it like the plague.
Rating: Summary: Excellent story line - couldn't finish it fast enough! Review: This was an excellent quick reading story that I couldn't put down. It was fast moving and held my interest. I highly recommend this book. Very well written.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Sped through it in 2 hours Review: I read this book last night! It was amazing. I loved the way that Shreve developed the characters and the plot. The twists and turns were amazing. Thank you. I will be reading her other books shortly. Melody
Rating: Summary: Rare insight into life as the wife of a pilot! Review: While the details were slightly different, Ms Shreve has captured the essence of my life as a pilots wife. The pilots life, away from his family, becomes his reality and the family (or should I say "the original family" becomes unreal or incidental. Finally, the distance and the betrayal destroy the dreams and hopes that created the "original family" and the "original wife" is usually the last to know. A former "Pilots Wife"
Rating: Summary: HIghly readable. Review: This book is fast paced and light, considering the subjects in the book. It is nice to see a book without any steamy sex scenes in it, but rather, a pleasant story, where you care for the characters and what happens to them. I'd recommend this book to anyone, except maybe recent widows and those wanting a book for the plane ride (especially not for overseas flying enjoyment).
