Rating: Summary: Just didn't ring true! Review: This is a book that I think people will either find endearing or just plain frustrating. What lies at the heart is a story that is really very interesting but in the hands of Shreve it is one that just doesn't ring true. The introduction of each of the characters is hurried and while the telling of the story in a non-linear fashion with flashback does provide insight, one would wonder why we were not given at least some sort of introduction to Kathryn at the start of the story. Sure i get that we are told the story as it unfolds for Kathryn, the flashbacks are exactly that, flashbacks of the memories and reminders of Jack, however for a story that touches on really important issues like infidelity, marriage, sex etc. it answers no questions. The dialogue that exists between the characters is also questionable. Whoever heard a mother talk to their fifteen year old daughter the way Kathryn talks to Mattie and especially after Jack has just died? In fact the only moving scene in the book i think is the conversation between Kathryn and Deirdre and she is four! This is disappointing, very disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Do those of us who haven't read this a favor Review: Before I bought this book, I scrolled through the reviews, and I noticed several gave away plot twists! I think we all know how boorish, rude and insensitive that is to those of us who haven't read this book. Sure, her husband dies in a plane crash and she's left to deal with it. Why the need to say more? Don't be a jackass and give away the ending, as some reviews did! Leave a little mystery for the rest of us. Just because you didn't like something doesn't mean everyone else will, and vice versa. That doesn't justify ruining it.
Rating: Summary: Music for the eyes......... Review: I really enjoyed this novel. Ms Shreve captures the angst and struggle of losing someone you love and in the same moment realize what you thought was real was actaully not. I also recommend "Where or When" by the same author......
Rating: Summary: the Pilot's Wife is boring because it is too predictable Review: While the story plot could have been an interesting one, what is most annoying is that the characters are not fully developed in depth--I feel slighted, particularly because I love mysteries.
Rating: Summary: Big Plot Holes Review: Firstly, would a man like Jack really carry aboard a flight bag without taking a peek inside? Especially since he was aware of the danger. Then there's Robert. How convenient that Kathryn has a strong, caring man to fall into during the grieving process. Most women who lose their husbands must grieve alone - Robert's role was too cutesy. All we needed was a Mariah Carey song in the background. Women CAN survive a death without a white knight running in to save the day!! Hands up how many people would let strangers into the house to rummage through drawers? I think not, Anita. You boo-booed here in a big way. Oprah, I love you, but why this dud book?
Rating: Summary: Great read! Review: I read the "Weight of Water" and thought it was pretty good, but "The Pilot's Wife" is great! Could not put it down, did not want to put it down. Great summer reading, don't miss it!
Rating: Summary: The Book was excellent ! ! Review: I thougth the book was the best I've read so far. I finished it in least then 2 weeks.I just couldn't put it down. I friend of mine had suggested that I buy it from Oprah's Book Club. It seems now that all the books I've bought are from her book club. They are all so very good. The end of this book had me amazed. I just couldn't believe what she was going through. By the way, I wanted to join Oprah's Book Club via on-line, would anyone happen to have her on-line address??
Rating: Summary: A depressing yet brilliant book!! Review: When I began this book, I dreaded turning the page...it seemed so depressing. I am certainly glad I did though! Although the subject matter was dreary to say the least, this book was very intriguing! I had to force myself to put it down at night. However, you must know before you begin this book that you are going to be on an emotional roller coaster from cover to cover! Definitely read this book!!!
Rating: Summary: One hell of a page turner! Review: Kathryn bring you into her world and does not let you go until the last words that leave her mouth. This is an outstanding novel. You feel every emotion, just like your there with Kathryn. It has romance, mystery, sorrow, and a bit of comedy all wrapped into one story. BRAVO!
Rating: Summary: a woman's coping with betrayal and death of a husband Review: The dreaded early a.m. knock on her door brings Kathryn the news of her husband's shocking death. As the story unfolds Kathryn learns of a betrayal which she can barely understand. Her marriage to Jack for more than 15 years and his love and concern for her and their daughter is tarnished by events which keep Kathryn in turmoil. I liked this book because I felt the author portrayed the protaganist in a manner which all women could understand and feel a kinship. I had trouble accepting Robert's role and what appeared to be his place in the lives of Kathryn and daughter, Mattie.
