Rating: Summary: A short read that keeps you wondering what happens next. Review: I love the suspense and guessing thru the book, A must read
Rating: Summary: Read it by the pool - you won't care if it gets wet. Review: When I first picked this book up, I thought, at the very least, I would enjoy the author's style of writing. But as I read on, I began to feel that her descriptions were contrived, as if she were trying too hard. Each time I came upon a metaphor (e.g. "the road stretched like a pull of taffy"), I felt that it had been SO difficult for her to come up with it, and that she must have a rather simple mind to have been satisfied with including such a description in her book. The plot is also much too formulaic. I can't believe it ended exactly how I thought it would. Couldn't the author have surprised us a little? And how many times has this boring plot been done? The so-called "twist" is just another example of how the author tries too hard. She's tried to give some weight to what is essentially a soap-opera episode. Why bother? If it's fluff, it's fluff. Having said that, if you've got an afternoon to lay out by the pool and you don't want to expand your mind....bring this book along.
Rating: Summary: An easy read which left me wanting more. Review: An interesting tale which surprised me completely.I wanted to see more of the characters. This was my first Shreve book but certainly won't be my last!
Rating: Summary: Not worth the time or money Review: I was highly disappointed in this book. After hearing Oprah's recommendations I was sure I would like this book. I was wrong and will think twice before I purchase a book she has added to her book club. This is the first time I have read one and don't know if I will again.
Rating: Summary: A quick - moderately entertaining read Review: I finished this book in about 4 hours during a plane ride. The plot pushes the limits of reality even for a fictional novel.
Rating: Summary: Gripping and captivating. Shreve never lost my attention. Review: From the very first page I was captivated by Shreve and her ability to spin a great tale. I only wish it was a longer book, because I read it too fast!
Rating: Summary: An enjoyable and quick read Review: This was not great literature. There were passages that actually seemed silly-- a 15 year old girl telling her mother about sex in the animal kingdom as a lead-in to her own revelation of having "done it," for example. On the other hand, I was so interested in reading the next page that I finished the book the same day I started reading. It won't change your life of make you reflect too much, but you'll enjoy it at least as much as any episode of ER.
Rating: Summary: KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT!! Review: THE PILOT'S WIFE IF A GREAT BOOK. I DID'T WANT TO PUT IT DOWN. THE AUTHOR'S DETAILED WRITINGS HELPED TO HAVE A VISUAL OF THE WHOLE BOOK IN YOUR MIND.I CAN'T WAIT TO READ HER NEXT BOOK!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable Reading Review: I really enjoyed reading The Pilot's Wife. It was a quick read (I finished within 24 hours) but it always had me thinking. There were a few different twists and unexpected turns that kept it interesting. I also enjoyed the Irish element. Worth purchasing and reading.
Rating: Summary: Been there. Done that. Review: Of the two popular novels about pilots and their women this summer, Rustad's "The Triumph and the Glory" is a runaway winner. "The Pilot's Wife" is a flawed, over-hyped novel, based upon a worn out premise and littered wioth loose ends all over the place. Anita Shreve is capable of far better than this!
