Rating: Summary: D-U-L-L Review: Slow moving and unrealistic..
Rating: Summary: A good book that is an easy read. Review: I started this book the night before the news of JFK Jr.'s plane going down in the ocean, so it had an erie feeling to it the whole time I was reading it. I really liked this book. It started out well, but it did drag a little in the middle (but not enough to make we want to stop reading), and had a great, unpredictible ending. I reccommend this book to anyone looking for great read.
Rating: Summary: A journey down into the grieving heart. Review: A story for those who are drawn to the inner world of the psyche. A great study of Kathryn...a way to begin to understand the vast number of ways grief and bereavement can be experienced. Descriptive details of this experience became real for this reader, since the details of Kathryn's thoughts, her observations, her relationship with her daughter, were uniquly explicit, i.e. "She let the white noise of the water fill her head, pushing away the voices and faces from the house, faces with thin veils of sympathy over features marked by intense ambition, faces with solemn mouths below keen eyes". Sometimes I felt empty and hollow, like Kathryn in her grief. Having a daughter about Kathryn's age, I loved the starkly tender and real relationship of these two. Not an uplift or encouraging tale, but absolutely engaging.
Rating: Summary: great story line, interesting Review: I thought this was a very good book with a good story line which was entertaining
Rating: Summary: A must read for anyone who is tired of predictable books! Review: If you are the type of person who can predict the thousands obvious endings of today's movies and books, you are going to appreciate this novel. Anita Shreve is a skilled author who is able to pull you in and keep you interested for hours. I can only hope she has twenty more novels in her future. Thanks Anita for the great story!
Rating: Summary: A very slow read until the final few chapters. Review: This book seems to go from bad to worse. The author gets very wordy at times with descriptions of completely irrelevant things. Then we are swung completely out in the unbelievable premis of her husband's double life. I wouldn't recommend it.
Rating: Summary: This is the definition of a page turner Review: What a gripping story with an amazing theme. How well can you truly ever know another person? The answer may not be what you want to hear, but the read is still well worth it-- very thought provoking! One small drawback...the ending is slightly disappointing.
Rating: Summary: A fun read, that is slightly predictable, but entertaining. Review: I believe critics were too harsh when reviewing this book. I thought it was a very easy read that kept you turning the pages. I thought the most impressive part of Shreve's writing was that she brought to life all of the "little things" one's mind thinks of while grieving. I could not help but to feel sorry for the sudden akwardness in her life, the feeling of betrayal that ripped through her like a sharp knife. I loved the style in which the book was developed, switching from past to present. I will read more by Shreve, you can count on it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Fast read, very believable. Review: This book was difficult to put down. The story line was heartbreaking, and almost too real. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: This book grabs you and doesn't let go until the last page Review: This book is amazing, one of my favorite so far from Oprah's Book Club. It jump starts your heart and makes you question every relationship you have. I am still wondering how well I "really" know those closest to me. A must read!
