Summary: Thoroughly Awesome!
Review: I'm usually a very slow reader. It takes me two weeks to read a book of this length. It took me only four days. Shreve does a wonderful job describing all the emotions that Kathryn is experiencing with the loss of her husband and all that she discovers, So much so that I too could feel her sorrow, her anger and eventually her acceptance. I got so involved with the charecter that I couldn't stop thinking about her even days after I read the last page. Of course, I'm tremendously grateful that my husband is not a pilot!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Relatively predictable but a good book.
Review: The book was an easy read. I got through it pretty quickly. I was a little surprised by the way the plot turned a few times . . . and surprised by the ending. I would recommend it based mostly on the way in which the story unfolded ... especially the end.

Summary: Couldn't put it down ...
Review: The book just sucked you right through. You're finished before you know it . . . wishing the end had not arrived so quickly. The suttle development of the main character, Astrid, becomes so evident in the surprising end. And I do stress SURPRISING!! Makes one ponder ... nature or nuture??

Summary: very good, easy read
Review: Although the topics dealt with in this novel are all heavyweight, the book itself was a very easy read. The story flowed very nicely, and the characters were all so genuine (well, except maybe Muire) that you have the urge to hug and comfort them. When I finished the book and thought about what I read, it was then that I really appreciated the story.

Summary: 1 star is too good
Review: This was the most slow, predictable, horrible book I ever read. If you have to buy it, get it at a yard sale. Better yet, go check it out of the library. I can't begin to express my disgust in this book. Boring, boring, boring.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: An entertaining and thought provoking story.
Review: This book was difficult to put down. I found it well written. Light and enjoyable to read yet it left you deep in thought at times. I would recommend it highly to the type of person who has difficulty getting into a book. This moves fast with excitement.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Left with questions at the end.
Review: I would like to know who A is or what A is? I was left utterly confused as to who or what this was meant to signify at the end of the book? Does anyone know?

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Quite Unbelievable
Review: Although this book was a page turner it is an unrealistic and at times boring book. Some of the descriptions of clothing, living quarters, etc. was tedious. And the plot? Forget it...it is like a bad made for tv movie. I would have given it only one star but the extra star is for the author wisely not including any descriptive sex scenes. That truly would have made this book worth trashing.

Summary: Good, four stars!
Review: I was struck by the parallels between the women's experiences in "The Pilot's Wife" and "The Triumph and the Glory". The most common element is the loss of the husband/lover and the consequences that follow. Did anyone else see the similarities in the two ? My boyfriend told me I'm off a bit on this thought, that the fates of the husband/lover in Triumph comes at the end while in Shreve's book it comes early on in the book, and that whatever conclusions I'm drawing from the common fate of the two is my own inference. We're still arguing about it. Anyway, I loved them both, although The Pilot's Wife is more a chick book than The Triumph and the Glory.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Dull, predicatable, wordy & a drag
Review: The book took forever to get to a point. The chapters were wordy and dull. Too much description of rooms and furnishings. I was very frustrated as I continued to finish the book in 3 1/2 hours just to get to a point. Nothing at all about the characters or story was original or interesting. I saw this double life of a pilot scenario on a bad Lifetime movie not too long ago. The sad attempt to politicize the crash was downright embarrasing. It's as if the author was grasping to tie it all together at the end.

It's a shame, I so looked forward to reading this book.
