Rating: Summary: Oh So Predictable! Review: I was told that there was a surprising twist, I never found it, Very predictable, no twist. I would not recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Made a pilot's wife look REAL stupid!! Review: I am a commercial airline pilot's wife, in fact my husband flies international. After reading this book I had to check to see if I still had a pulse, because I felt it lacked in so much. Us wives do communicate with our husbands when they are away on trips, even if they are flying international. It would have been pretty hard for Jack to have a 2nd wife if wife #1 took an ounce of interest in him. Just because the man is up in the air most of the time doesn't mean the wife is always kept in the dark. Her character was so unreal. Us spouses are very much in touch with our husbands and their whereabouts. Didn't sound like Jack's wife took advantage of her pass benefits very much, nor did she care to fly a trip with her husband. No wonder Jack found a wife across the ocean!!
Rating: Summary: Predictable yet enjoyable Review: I figured out the pilot's secrets (well, most of them) even before I cracked the book. Yes, it's very predictable, but it's also fun to read and realize how smart (or psychic) you are for guessing! This book is a breeze to read--if I hadn't had four step-children in the house for the past four weeks, I would have finished it in a matter of days. A nice in-between-books book. One thing is puzzling me, though: Who is "A"? A character? A place? I never figured it out, maybe I skipped over the explanation and didn't realize it. Maybe I missed a crucial point!
Rating: Summary: four stars for a good book Review: four stars for a good book is well desirved for The piolets Wife
Rating: Summary: Grabbed me at the start, and didn't let go! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Although an unbelievable plot, it was still an escape into another world that I was not familiar with. Reading of Kathryn's pain, I was able to put myself into her shoes, and experience her life for a moment. Shreve does an excellent job of painting a picture that you feel like you can reach out and grab. I would definetly reccommend this for a leisurly afternoon!
Rating: Summary: Not well written, very predictable Review: I am sorry to say that I was very disappointed by The Pilot's Wife. It was not particularly well written (I was ready to scream with her "he said, she said") and the story was all too predictable. I am very surprised that Oprah and Amazon recommended this mediocre book
Rating: Summary: what a snoozer Review: This book was unoriginal, not suspenseful and not surprising. I didn't care one lick about the characters or what happened to them. A highly overrated book. Luckily, it didn't take much time at all to get to the uneventful end.
Rating: Summary: Captivating Review: From the moment that Kathryn opened the door in the middle of the night, I was hooked. I found this novel to be a fascinating, and fast, read. I had no trouble figuring out that he had two families, but was suprised by the Irish connection. However, it is fitting considering the political upheavel that continues to this day. I liked how this book made you think about how well you really know someone, and how much the husband loved his two wives. I questioned which one he loved more, the one he kept in the dark or the one he shared his first wife with? It raises interesting philisophical questions, and is a fast summer read.
Rating: Summary: Impossible to put this down Review: I am not a reader but this book was recommended to me so I thought I would give it a try. I absolutely loved it. This poor woman goes through more shocks and surprises than one can possibly endure. I couldn't wait to keep reading and find out what we going to happen to her next!
Rating: Summary: Immediate Shreve fan--loved The Pilot's Wife Review: Anyone who has ever been awoken by a middle of the night call or knock at the door will immediatly be drawn into Kathryn's world on that cold December night. Amazing to watch Kathryn come to terms with both death and deceit while under the scrutiny of those around her. As a first time reader of Anita Shreve, I was impressed enough to go right out and buy Weight of Water...looking forward to another great read.
