Summary: Disappointing ending.
Review: I thought this book was very descriptive, and although slow reading, it had me sucked in. That is. . . until the ending. It was not 'too predictable' as others have said. The ending was far too ludicrous to be predictable.

Summary: starting to read - need clif notes
Review: Our book club is reading this for Aug of 1999. I would like to know if clif notes are available?

Summary: An amazing adveture to find the real truth!!!!
Review: The Pilot's Wife allowed me to follow her entire situation from beginning to end. I felt as I had struggled through the very same scenario. This book was astonishing all the way through and I had a very hard time putting this thriller down. The sensational ride of grief, loss, love, and shock keep you on your toes the entire time.

Summary: Too predictable for words.
Review: Shreve had me hooked in the first chapter. I was drawn into this book and could not put it down. But it quickly began to follow a formula that is all too familiar. Clueless wife finds secret life of dead husband. Once the climax of the book occurred, I kept hoping something else would happen that would redeem this book for me. It did not. The denouement was equally unsatisfying. For a book that started out with some much promise, it ended rather pathetically.

Summary: Wonderful and real!
Review: I Loved this book. It kept me turning the pages and wishing my lunch break was longer. I read it in a day. She described Kathryn's grief so effectively that I could actually feel it too. I would recommend this book to anyone. I can't wait to read her others.

Summary: Interesting Beach day reading
Review: Anita Shreve appears to be a direct and to-the-point writer giving the reader little thrill of anticipation but a direct and straight forward storyline. Her main character demonstrates what would appear to be real life emotional dips well reflective of her situation. I did question if in fact the airlines does assign a "union rep" to ward off any slips in language that would possilbly invite a law suit during the crisis of a major disaster.

The wife's discovery of her husband's double life added an interesting twist to an abrupt ending. I figured her and the "union rep" would end up an item and I was looking for a little excitement to bring the book to a close with an up beat ending that never happened.

Although this book lacks a more indepth appeal, I might be tempted to read some of her previous books and would recommend it as a quick summer read at the beach.

Summary: Good Book
Review: After reading "Resistance" and "The Weight of Water" by Anita Shreve, I was just a bit disappointed by "The Pilot's Wife".Her previous books compare with Tom Wolfe in her "research of details" style. The plot of Pilot's Wife was just a bit predictable. This is an interesting book- just not her best.

Summary: Great easy summer read, a real page turner
Review: This book caught your attention right from the start. It was able to build its characters so that you were able to feel the same things that they were going through. A great book.

Summary: Disappointing!
Review: I found the Pilot's Wife difficult to read in that the literary style was disjointed. The plot was mundane and unbelievable. First book I read by and Anita Shreve and it will be the last.

Summary: A MUST READ I LOVED THE STORY LINE
Review: This book made me, even though I am an anorexic want to sit down at a dinner chat with the author. hee hee I loved the way Kathryn made sure she protected Mattie's faith and love in her father. Even though Kathryn was furious and hurt by Jacks actions. As a parent of a 20yr old girl and an 8 yr old boy I could relate. Some people may tkae mattie as being spoiled I took her as someone who tries to act tough and yet distances herself from those she loves so as not to let them see that she is a child hurting. She tries to act like she is a big girl. I loved the character Julia what a strong person she never said whether she thought jack or Kathryn were wrong in anything they did, instead she was there to hold hands and listen and to help with Mattie. How lucky Kathryn is to have Julia in her life at such a bad time. This book was a quick read for me I read it in three days normally it takes me longer to read a book but I couldnt put it down. It flowed so easily and then just as you think it will let Kathryn and Robert fall in love they pull away and instead become each others allies to finding out what happened to her husband and the passengers in the plane. Even as it ended it didnt do anything stupid by throwing them into each others arms instead it let you know that these two people shared a very tough emotional time and will remain very closely bonded to one another. Thank goodness I watch Oprah everyday literally and so I saw when they did the reenactment of The Pilots Wife It made me definately want to purchase the book and now I am sending it to my sister Linda Shelton Rivera an artist in Broken Arrow Oklahoma as I know she will love this as much as she did A Lesson Before Dying. I cant wait to see Anita Shreve's other books. The weight of Water, Resistance, Where or when, Strange Fits of Passion and Eden Close that were listed on the back of the book Pilots Wife.
