Summary: good
Review: It is the first time that I read something of Anita Shreve, it is a good book but I think something was missing at the end. Anyway, it kept me interested all the time.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Easy read with a dissapointing finish.
Review: This book was addictive from the start. I could not put it down and waited with anticipation for the next chapter. As I began to near the end of the novel I became disappointed with the Author's lack of explanation. Rather than answer any of the obvious questions which arise, she quickly summarizes events. Great beggining, not such a great end.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Easy Read Lacking Detail and Development
Review: 300 pages and nothing happened. It needed more detail and development. That which was there I found to be superficial. I haven't read any of the author's other books, but her style in this one would have been better fit into a short story.

Summary: If possible, I would have rated this book as ZERO stars!!!
Review: The first chapter was much too sudden; in a millionth of a second you find someone knocking at Katherine's door telling her about her husband's death, without the author being able to build a strong empathy between the reader and Katherine. The result is that you feel NOTHING for her, NOTHING for Mattie, NOTHING for anyone in the book!

This stupid waste of time and money goes on and on about how bad Katherine feels, without the reader ever feeling ANYTHING! Yeah, just another one million ways to describe grief.

The ending was also really stupid and idiotic.

(Sorry, but I just had to express myself).

Summary: Good read about emotional betrayal
Review: The plot of this novel is totally secondary to the author's treatment of a betrayal by a spouse. The author does a good job portraying the pain of realizing your life is a lie. Recommended.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very engaging until the end...
Review: I picked up this book, very intrigued by what I read on the back cover and once I started the book I didn't want to put it down. I read it until I had to sleep and then picked it up again when it was time for my morning coffee. I so enjoyed the way Shreve wove the emotions and intricate patterns men and women fall into so easily together. I really felt all the imagery she wrote, felt the emotions, saw the scenery and wanted to see how the story ended. Then the story ended with a thud. Shreve built the story up so well and had me anticipating so much more than was delivered. I felt cheated with the implausable things the husband did and how, if he really did these things that his wife would see NO clue. All in all, I can say I enjoyed the book, just until this morning when I read the final chapters.

Summary: A real page turner!
Review: This was the first Anita Shreve book I had ever read. It was recommended by a friend and I am so glad I decided to try it. I read it on my vacation in one day and the plot had me totally hooked! From beginning to end the story line twists and turns in the most interesting way. I look forward to more reads from Anita Shreve.

Summary: I've never before read a book in one sitting!
Review: The Pilot's Wife, plain and simple, was excellent. I love to leisurely read books, but this one caught my interest so much that I just couldn't put it down until I finished it. The writer's style is such that it builds an visual image in your mind. I can't wait to pick up some more of her novels!

Summary: Good but not great
Review: This was not a book I couldn't put down although it was a pleasant read. The subject matter was very interesting but could have been made much more exciting--it was too "laid back".

Summary: world's dumbest wife
Review: Although this book captured your attention, the time it took to find out about Jack's other life was much too long. Kathryn sounded rather intelligent so why did she not suspect anything about her husband when she could not even call him when he traveled. She had to leave a voicemail?? The book was really annoying because of the above and also because it had a stupid ending. What would motivate Jack to become involved in irish terrorist activities? An irish second wife is just not enough. It was a dumb book and I am glad I did not buy it (I got it from a friend). If I had known it was a Oprah selection, I would not have read it as I consider every book I have read which was an Oprah pick too dreary.
