Summary: the best reading in a long time
Review: this book was so good, i couldn't stop reading it, in two sittings i read it from front to back. great plot, characterisations in detail, i got to the end of the pages, and i didn't want it to end, i gave my mind different scenarios on a followup book, WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS MADE INTO A MOVIE

Summary: I thought the book had a great starting.....
Review: I thought the book had a great starting but I was disappointed with the ending.

Summary: A quick and entertaining read
Review: I finished this book in one day (and night) - Labor Day. Not much else to do that day I guess. I enjoyed it - not a really great book but a good read. I noticed that Anita Shreve has another book coming out in Jan. 2000 - "Fortune's Rock". I beleive their was a place in this book called Fortune's Rock. Could this be the sequel to Pilot's Wife? If so, maybe we will find out more about the IRA plot twist which was so vague, what "A" is, Kathryn's interest in the welfare of the other children, and of course a romance between Kathryn and Robert.

Summary: This story is disappointingly predictable and boring.
Review: The Pilot's Wife is an attempt to explore the grieving process of a young woman and her daughter after the crash of a plane flown by her obviously (from the start) unfaithful pilot husband. The process is complicated by answers to the wife's search for meaning behind the crash, and, ultimately, details of her past husband's personal life. Get a clue, Kathryn. Don't waste your time.

Summary: Interesting, but predictable story. Weak ending!
Review: I had no idea what this book was about when I picked it up. I was hooked from the beginning and read on and on and on for what I thought would be a pretty neat ending. When I put the book down I realized I had no idea how or why it ended as it did. I felt as though the author wasn't sure how to wrap it up and just finished it quickly ... as though she'd had enough of it. For days I've thought about the ending and I still can't come to terms with the conclusion to the "mystery". Not good! This would be a great project for a College English class to allow the students to read the text and then develop an ending of their own! Was that what the author had in mind????

Summary: No one knows another as well as they think
Review: I found the book a rivetting read. The pain and anguish of losing Jack transmitted to me. I was taken on the grief journey along with his family and I wanted answers too.

Anita Shreeve reached into a woman's heart and described the pain and loss she felt at losing her partner, and her daughter's father.

I was completely at the mercy of the author because I wanted answers to my questions and to find out why Jack had died.

Another page turner for me.

Summary: I could not put this book down for a second it was so real.
Review: The book was incredible. One of the best books I have ever read. You simply could not put it down. Every time you thought you had it figured out another thing would happen and you would keep reading. It was so realistic, the things she (the main character) was feeling and doing seemed like I was living it myself. I heartily recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: Entertaining and interesting
Review: I was at the bookstore at O'Hare and needed an easy read for my trip. Even if the story is implausible and predictable I had a hard time putting it down. In particular, there's something very haunting about Katherine's husband. The author never really offers a good explanation for his actions and that didn't really bother me. From personal experience, I've found that there are people that you think you know well and then discover hidden, sometimes disturbing things about them.

If your looking for a more complex, inspiring book, I'd avoid The Pilot's Wife. But for a simple, "formula" story to pass the time, I thought this ws fine. Better written than most Harlequin Romances.

Summary: Too predictable and dull
Review: This was my first time reading a book written by Shreve and if the rest of her books are like this I don't think I will be too interested in reading more. It did not leave much to the imagination. I agree with another reader--overly descriptive. Too early into the book, we all knew that there was someone else. The ending did not leave me wanting more, instead I felt relieved to be finished.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: A subject that was treated many times
Review: I found myself bored many times. The author goes into lengthy details of clothing worn by characters to fill in material. Also, the matter was treated humorously in the movie, the Captain's Paradise many years ago. Would not recommend.
