Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: The plot of this book is somewhat unrealistic. I've often wondered about people who didn't realize there were marital problems until his/her spouse suddenly left one day. Shreve's descriptions of people and the location are well done. The story did keep my interest. I had to finish the book to find out what would happen next; I just didn't like the story line. I prefered the "Weight of Water" better than this book.
Rating: Summary: As a pilot's wife......fascinating! Review: Read it in one day...the imagery she conveyed..you were there with her..able to visualize every moment. Shreve did a wonderful job describing the feelings of a pilot's wife...the worries, concerns and the wonders. This would make a great movie! Ending could have been better.
Rating: Summary: A book that makes you focus how life can change in seconds Review: First time I'm writting a review on any particular book, this book with all its content points how life can be so different from one day to another. It also points out that as human we never kind of totally get to know a person. It's a book full of moral issues and it's worth the reading!!!
Rating: Summary: I was disappointed. Plot seemed predictible. Review: I was very disappointed in this book . . . especially in light of the "Oprah's Book Club" endorsement. The plot line seemed predictible, and I'm confused by the last sentence. Passed it on to a friend and will see what I get from her as feedback.
Rating: Summary: It's driving me crazy.......... Review: Wasn't there a movie with a similar plot? The whole encounter with the London wife was reminiscent of some movie I saw, but I can't for the life me think of the title. Or maybe I'm just anticipating where this novel is headed. I'm predicting Julia Roberts will get the part as Kathryn. I think Robert could probably be played by Harrison Ford. I agree with other readers who felt this book started off great and then let the reader down.
Rating: Summary: fast read, but totally unbelievable Review: As a pilot's wife myself I found this book to be totally unbelievable from start to finish. No airline would treat the family the way this one was treated, no pilot would risk the lives of his passengers or his crew by carrying a bomb or anything close to it! I also found it very hard to believe that he could have two families and Kathryn wouldn't have found out - the whole story was totally bogus. I did, however, find it was a page-turner for at least the first half, a very easy read. Is Oprah really reading these books or not?
Rating: Summary: well written but irritating Review: i felt myself sick to learn of the death but worst to find out about the other woman. she was convinced that she had a good marriage and had no idea what her life was really like. it made me feel betrayed. i enjoyed the book but was a little disturbed by the truth of it all. you cant help to think your life or anyones could be that way. it definately makes you stop and think. i would have liked a better ending. i am not sure whether robert and her got together or not.\
Rating: Summary: A 2-day read! Review: After reading mixed reviews of this book, I was almost hesitant to start it. Once I did, though, I was HOOKED! I found this to be a great read, a definate page turner, and could barely put it down even to sleep! As soon as I finished it, I passed it on to a friend who couldn't wait for the ending and "just had to peek" at the last chapter. I recommend the one-page-at-a-time method though, you don't want to miss any of the breath-taking revelations!
Rating: Summary: Montanan says.....What happened? Review: Give Anita Shreve some credit. She hooks you into what appears to be a well-written, well-paced novel about a woman grieving the loss of her husband, a pilot killed when his airliner crashes. But pretty quickly the questions crop up: Why do the airline people take over her house? Why does she let them tell her what to do? Why is she such a whimp? Sadly, despite some nice plot twists, the novel loses momentum and credibility. In the end, (finally relieved that this book is coming to an end) when you read the last sentence, you ask yourself...what happened? Lots of potential here, but sadly under-utilized.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put this down..read it in one day! Review: I won't say this is the best book I have ever read, but I will say that it was worth reading. The story grabs you from the first page and keeps you wanting to know what was going to happen next. I imagined putting myself in Kathryn's shoes and if I would be strong enough to support a daughter through a time like that. Not to mention digging enough to find out your husband had a wife and family a half a world away that you knew nothing about! A good weekend read...
