Summary: It Can Happen!
Review: This was a good book! People don't realize that this could actually happen! People do lead double lives! A plane could crash at any moment anywhere, and the truth could be lost forever. I felt for Katherine and Mattie. This was not a far fetched story. I could hardly put it down. This was my first Shreve book, I look forward to reading her others. The Pilots Wife is a must read. Get your tissues ready and be ready for a non stop page turner. You will be glad you read this novel. Very touching and very heartbreaking.

Summary: Who could possibly put this book down?
Review: I just have to put in my two cents worth about this novel because I REALLY enjoyed reading it. The vivid imageries I pictured from Ms. Shreve's superb writing style were almost too real! This is an easy to read book and it will keep you entertained. The emotions of the main character are conveyed perfectly and you almost understand exactly how she feels. I loved this novel and have given it to my mom and my best friend to read as well. The only negative thing I can say about this book is that I didn't particularly like the ending. Pick it up, you won't be sorry you took this emotional voyage :)

Summary: far-fetched
Review: The story was semi-believable when it was the story of a man with 2 families. When you trust someone and love them you may become short-sighted, not look at things with suspicion. I think the author went too far when she made the husband a religious fanatic, and an IRA sympathizer. How could these feelings not spill over into his other life? Just not believable.

Summary: I liked it!
Review: I'm surprised that so many people seemed to either love this book or hate it. I don't fall into either camp. It was a good read. I thought Shreve was at her best in describing Kathryn's emotions. I could almost feel her pain and confusion. And yes, Kathryn was naive in many ways but it's a very easy thing for someone not to see what they don't want to see. It happens all the time. I was also pleasantly surprised that when I thought I had figured out the reason behind the plane crash it turned out to be something else. I would have liked it more if at some point Kathryn had thrown a major screaming tantrum but that's not in her character and in that sense Shreve is true to herself. In short, I thought the book was worth the time.

Summary: How can anyone be like this...
Review: Anita Shreve should really go into marketing. She has incredible ideas for not so incredible material. I realize I am being overly cruel but any avid reader knows how painful it is to see a great story line end in such a shallow manner. In order to be constructive, I hope Shreve sees that she does have excellent plots but really needs to place more effort in pulling it together to justify it. Unless, of course, all she cares about is the sale of the book....

Summary: Disappointing
Review: This novel was disappointing at best. As a "real" pilot's wife, I found the plot to be far-fetched.

The affair with the flight attendant and subsequent marriage was especially predictable. Come on, Ms. Shreve, you can be more original than that!

Summary: Surprised at other reviews
Review: I just finished reading this book and I was very surprised to read the volume of negative reactions to this book. I thought the book was extremely well written. True, the plot was predictable, but I don't think the plot was the point. Rather, I think the human reaction to tragedy and to betrayal was the point of the book. There is no question that the book was about a naive woman, but then again, maybe you don't know you're naive until there is an event that tells you so.

Summary: Couldn't get through it ...
Review: I bought this book because it was highly recommended my many sources, including Oprah. I've been trying since December, but I just can't get into it. It just seemed to move too slow.
