Summary: Mine Says Two Thumbs Up
Review: I thought that this book was really good. I was captured at the beginning, and didn't put the book down, until I was done. I felt Kathryns pain as she discovered the secret life of her cheating husband. I was surprised at the depth of his other life, and the real reason for the crash. I really enjoyed this book, and recommend it to anyone to read.

Summary: Good Thing I Borrowed It
Review: When I started this I thought it would be a good read because I was attracted to the writing style. But the writing style alone does not make a book. There was a sense of emotional detachment and underdeveloped characters. I thought Jack's secret life was more shocking than it actually was. And Kathryn's relationship with her daughter was repaired too quickly in the end. They should have been affected much more by the secret life their husband and father was leading. Wouldn't they have needed therapy, or something? And Robert--what was the point of him? He and Kathryn seemed to be attracted to each other, but their relationship was so ambigious it was annoying. Save your money. The writing style is excellent, but there's nothing really enlightening here.

Summary: Beginning, Great - Middle, Good - Ending, Disappointing
Review: For the most part, I really enjoyed reading this book (and on an airplane no less!) It was an easy read, and unlike some other reviewers, I felt there was enought character development, but the ending seemed out of place and was just too abrupt; it left me feeling like there just had to be more. I do, however, look foward to reading more of this author's books!

Summary: The Pilots Wife
Review: I found the book addictive-had to finish reading it once I started. I also thought the character development was superb-I felt I knew this woman--It was a book that left you thinking. I was very surprised to find negative reviews that suggested otherwise.

Summary: A Book Well Written
Review: A creepy, yet somehow heartwarming tale, "The Pilot's Wife" is a book that I would certainly recommend to anyone. The story follows a woman, Kathryn, who loses her husband, and also finds many questions unanswered, all in a short time span. The book is a quick, easy read, but it also leaves the reader with many questions to ask themselves. Once I started the novel, I couldn't put it down. Although the author does go into a lot of detail at certain points, I think it helped because it made me feel as if I was there. The plot does seem a little unbelievable at first, but yet I found myself asking "Could this really happen?" All in all, I found this book very enjoyable, and would like to read more by Anita Shreve.

Summary: Not a great book
Review: An interesting story about a woman who loses her husband in a plane crash, but it's written like a dime store novel, rushes forward with a plot but little character development -- not sure how it got onto Oprah's list, because it didnt develop the main protagonist much, just kind of obvious and superficial...

Summary: Well written but unbelieveable
Review: I don't think the author should have 'set the husband up' to be such a saint in the first place. But I do think it was well written. Although I will admit I skimmed through much of it, I will also say that the story 'stayed with me' for some time. It wasn't as a result of the bizarre ending...it was more the quality of Ms. Shreve's writing abilites. For that alone, this is a worthwhile read.

Summary: This is a quick, easy read
Review: I rather enjoyed this book. I read it on a long flight (not too smart given it's context) and enjoyed the fact that it was quick, effortless reading. The storyline was fluid and, although the auther tended to go on and on sometimes, it kept me enthralled and almost feeling as if I were there. It wasn't too far-fetched and I was rather surprised by the ending. Wouldn't mind reading more books by this auther.

Summary: Can not miss this one!
Review: This book is definitely a page turner! As soon as Katheryn opened the door, I could not put it down. It not as far fetched as it may seem. And it leaves you wondering just how well you really know someone!

Summary: Well worth making the time to read
Review: I have to say what a great story! I have read other "Oprah" books, and this one is one is by far the best. I am a single mom and I have to make time to read (sacrifice sleep normally). The author incorporates the tragedy bestowed on a pilot's wife and the subsiquent revelations that she makes in trying to clear her husband's name. The way we are taken from the present to the past and back is so well transitioned. The characters are "real" and they could be your next door neighbor. The fact that is easy to follow makes it that much more appealing for those of us that have to keep putting it down (not by choice). I have given it to three friends already and they have all loved it. We have started a circle of books by Shreve. My hat's off to the author!
