Rating: Summary: Predictable! Review: I should have loved this book - this is the exact type of story I'm particularly fond of, but I found this book extrememly predictable and I didn't care for the choices the heroine makes. There are better books than this one!
Rating: Summary: Men Are Dogs, Part 1 Review: OK, you're married to a handsome, successful commercial pilot who spends much of the year out of the country and REALLY is not too keen on you joining him for little escape weekends when he's abroad. He also gets irritated if you go anywhere near his computer and can never be reached "at the office," which happens to be an apartment overseas. YET, after his plane blows up, you are almost in a state of shock to discover he might not have been the man you thought he was!! This is another Oprah selection, and although I have enjoyed her book club recommendations in the past, I am getting a little tired of some of these fly-weight choices. This book was not boring--it moved quickly, and I really did want to find out what happened. It's too bad the guy blew up with his plane, which was entirely too nice an end for him. But the wife definitely needed a girlfriend who could sit her down and spell things out for her. I was irritated that she was so doggedly loyal to the pilot, who came across as sort of superior and full of himself. Oh well, love is blind. I guess this book serves as a cautionary tale to not put all your eggs in one basket, especially if that basket isn't where he says he will be when you need to reach him.
Rating: Summary: Thought-provoking Review: Kathryn Lyons is content with her life. She has a fulfilling job, a happy and talented teenage daughter, the home on the water she had always dreamed about, and a secure marriage. Her whole world comes tumbling down around her when she answers a knock on the door in the middle of the night. Robert Hart, a representative of the pilot's union has brought the shocking news that the plane her husband Jack is piloting has crashed into the sea off the coast of Ireland. At first Kathryn is barely able to cope with the news. This can't be happening. Investigators start asking her very unsettling questions about her marriage and her private life. Before long, the media reports the crash is believed to have been caused by pilot error -- then comes the more shocking news: they investigators have reason to believe Jack committed suicide. Kathryn cannot, in her wildest dreams, believe this. He had not seemed depressed, didn't have a drinking problem, and had even asked their daughter Mattie to go with him to a Celtics game when he returned. As she goes through some of Jack's things, she finds several confusing notes. Doing a bit of investigation herself (with some help from Robert), Kathryn becomes suspicious -- just what was Jack doing in London? From the time Kathryn opens the door until the book is closed after the last page is read, the reader cannot help but mesmerized. Immensely readable, unsettling, compelling, and beautifully phrased, THE PILOT'S WIFE is a book which will stay with the reader long after it's finished. The Oprah Book Club selection for April 1999 is a book every wife and mother should read. How well do you really know your husband?
Rating: Summary: Predictable - but a fast and enjoying read Review: Wasn't this a movie? I must say, I guessed alot of the plot before it happened but did enjoy this story. A good, fast beach or weekend read. I even read it on my airplane flight! Ouch!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: The whole time I was reading this book I could see the characters in my head and the kind of life they had. When Kathryn was grieving and then finding out who husband really was I could really understand her character. What a great book!
Rating: Summary: Written extremely well Review: Though very depressing, the realism expressed by the author of this novel makes you really believe what you read is happening. Catherine, the "Pilot's wife" After finding out of her husbands aircraft crashing, and no survivors found begins finding strange evidence of a seperate home across the Atlantic which also is suffering from the exact tragedy as she. Could it be that her deceased husband had lived a double life? This is a very good, yet unpleasantly tragic novel. It is definetly a good read, and it will hopefully get you to count your blessings.
Rating: Summary: A real page turner Review: At first, this book made me so depressed. I could really feel all the pain and love Kathryn felt for her husband. I was reading it at the hair dressers, thinking " I can't read this any more, it's too depressing", when lady after lady came up to me and told me what a great book it was. So I kept on reading, and soon, the idea that something wasn't right in this marriage was revealed and I could not put the book down! What a great story - it held me to the end, as new insights and revealations came to light! Now, I want to read all her books!
Rating: Summary: Nice takeoff, horrible landing Review: A good premise, and the author plays the grief card very well. The wife is strong, but in love. The relationship with the union guy was well written too. You really liked and trusted him, and believed that he could take care of things. But, about halfway through this well-developing tale, it seems as if the author wanted to quickly wrap things up. Too much information is given too quickly, and with little explanation. And then the book ends, just like that, and you're left to feel as if you took a wrong turn back in the middle of the book, and ended up in some other novel. A great start, smooth and slow. A horrible ending, short and brusque.
Rating: Summary: The book will make you think Review: This book will make you think about things that maybe you never wanted to think about before! Of course, the book is entirely fictional but it will make you question your thoughts. Some might say that they know what is going to happen. In the back of my mind I knew what was going to happen also, but not to the extent that it did. A GREAT BOOK. Im now going to read her other 6 books. (I read this one in a day)
Rating: Summary: Engrossing Review: I found this book to be a very quick read. I became engrossed immediately. The writing was good and the story was intriguing. Definitly worth reading.
