Summary: Predicatable
Review: Here's a book about a woman who's husband, the pilot of a plane dies in a crash off the coast of Ireland. Reading the back of the book, I thought the Pilot's Wife would contain much mystery and excitement. In fact, the book was fast paced, but didn't get truly exciting until half way through.

The ending was also extremely predictable. It was unsatisfactory as well. There is a character mentioned in the middle of the book whom the reader thinks will be more involved, but isn't.

The only good parts about The Pilot's Wife is that it's not boring and that the reason for the plane crash is a good explanation.

Summary: Saw the movie...
Review: ...remember the movie Deceived(1991) with Goldie Hawn and William Hurt. The wife in the movie discovers after her husband's "death" that he had a another life and maybe he wasn't really dead. Ok not exactly the same but close enough that while reading The Pilots Wife I felt I has seen, I mean read it before. By the way the movie was much better.

Summary: Predictable,but worth it!
Review: This book deals with a touchy subject; just how well do we really know the people we love? It does it in a very rich, fullfilling way. The characters are loving created and relationships are explored. It does have some predictability, but the exploration of emotions in a stressfull situation makes it worth it. The author does throw in one or two unexpected twists!

An enjoyable, thought provoking, quick read!

Summary: A Must Read!
Review: The Pilot's Wife was probably the most well-written book that I have ever read. It is subtle, deep, moving and thoroughly modern. A very fast 'can't put down' book. I read it about six months ago and still think about it's premise. I highly recommend this novel.

Summary: And you think you know someone!
Review: The writing was great and I was hooked until about three quarters of the way through and then it was as if a completely different author ended the tale! What a lame ending for an other wise great book. The grief element was fabulously prtrayed, and the relationship between daughter and mom was good - but that ending... the publisher must have been breathing down her neck.

Summary: A little slow at first, then ...ZOOM !
Review: When Kathryn Lyons receives word that a plane flown by her husband has exploded off the coast of Ireland, she confronts the unbelievable; one startling revelation at a time. You won't believe your eyes!

Summary: Skip it -- you'll be glad you did
Review: Terribly disappointing, thoroughly unrealistic tale. Shreve did an admirable job portraying grief and the reaction to traumatic loss. But there's nothing else about this book that I found even remotely compelling.

Summary: Nothing special about this book
Review: I borrowed this book from a friend that loved it and insisted that I would love it too. The story is interesting, a woman that finds out about her husband's second life only after he dies. It could have been an awesome book if the author actually wrote interest things about the characters and added some thrill to the story. It was mild and boring, boring, boring. I turned every page expecting something interesting to happen and nothing ever happened, it was just very frustrating.

Summary: Great idea but something just didn't click
Review: I thought the premice of this book was pretty original. It was an interesting departure from the standard "disaster" or "trauma" type books, movies, Lifetime TV movies, and true-crime type stories that are so prevalent these days. The book started out pretty well, but something about it just fell flat for me. It seemed to move very slowly in some parts, when talking about the aftermath of the tradgedy, and Kathryn's recollections of her marriage (but the one big fight she remembered having with her husband had didn't really make any sense to me). Conversely, the story also struck me as progressing far too quickly when exploring the next stage of Kathryn's life (I don't want to divulge anything more so I'll just leave it at that). Toward the end it seemed that the author concurred with this latter observation and quickly backpedaled to remedy the situation. However, never having been a widow myself, or even married for that matter, I'm sure a person experiences emotions and reactions of which I have no comprehension.

Overall, the book was well written, and there is a pretty good twist at the end. Perhaps, since I don't have very much in common with the protaganist, I just couldn't relate to her.

Summary: Good book
Review: I think this was basically a good book. I was a little let down by some of the events, but overall, it kept my attention.
