Rating: Summary: Well written novel about relationships Review: Imagine that you have what you've always wanted - a caring spouse, a good kid, a nice home, a beautiful town to live in. Then imagine that the entire world you've found for yourself comes crashing down, a piece at a time. This book does a wonderful job of exploring how one woman deals with loss, betrayal, and monumental life changes. The author writes well, and does an excellent job of making you care for the characters in the book. She begins by introducing us to this marriage, this relationship between two people. We then follow along with the woman as she discovers, piece by piece, the secrets that underlayed this relationship and life she had built around it. The novel uses beautiful prose to explore relationships, how those relationships change over time, and how people who share a home can sometimes not really know each other at all. A well written book, a quick read, and a nice insight into relationships and marriage.

Rating: Summary: Unbelievably Incredible! Review: The Pilot's Wife with no doubt is the best novel I have ever read. It is so unbelievably fascinating words cannot describe it. I have never read a book that literally from front to back and every single word in between has kept me so intrigued by the intensity of it. I obviously cannot say enough about it, except for, do yourself a favor, make some time and sit back and enjoy the shocker of your life!!
Rating: Summary: The Pilot's Wife Review: Kathryn's life was perfect, so she thought. Until a fatal accident leaves her to cope with her husbands death. She finds the hidden secrets of her husband and the daughter she thought she knew. Anita Shreves brings you into a suspenceful novel of a woman's love to prove her husband's loyality.
Rating: Summary: Nope - didn't grab me Review: I was stongly encouraged to read this book; my friend loved it. I thought it was fine to read every night for about 15 minutes just before going to sleep. No intrigue, although the author seems to be trying to intrigue us. Jack led a double-life. His wife (well, the one he married first, anyway), was surprised and crushed. Wow - . By the way, to Dave, who reviewed this book previously, you said "During this whole process she makes a friend, Robert Hart who is there to comfort her and accompany her wherever she goes". Hmmmm....did you miss the part where he admitted that he knew about the other wife and kids, knew about the smuggling, knew about everything, and was shadowing her because it was his job and he was trying to find out if she knew anything more?? Yes, he appears again in the end, and I'm sure he had the romantic feelings, but hey - he was there during the crisis and through her trip because it was his job.....don't forget - he wasn't a friend, he also betrayed her. Anyway, I gave the book 3 stars because I did finish it, and it wasn't awful, just not my type of book, I guess.
Rating: Summary: just okay Review: I was initially excited about reading this much-recommended book but found the story implausible. It started off very intriguing; shedding light on how a pilot's wife is dealt with following a downed plane. This part really pulled me in to the story. The whole business with the secret life really got too far fetched and made me think "boy, this is a made for TV movie plot" not one of my favorite genres.
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommend Review: Kathryn Lyons is awakened to find out that her husband has been in a tragic plane crash and she finds out during that she never really knew her husband at all. I felt that the descriptions in this book were very well written especially the part where she has the task of telling her Daughter that her father has died and the description of the fear people feel when flying. I would highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: ~The Pilot's Wife~ By: Anita Shreve Review: "The Pilot's Wife" is an extremely well-written story, capable of luring in readers of all ages to fall in love with a book from cover to cover. My experience with Shreve's novel was thrilling, nerve-racking, and intense. This book made me think about all of the people I've met in my life, of who I can and can not trust. Not only did this story open up my eyes into someone else's life that I could never dream of, but it enforced morals I have learned from when I was young. From reading of this terrible fatality which occurred in the Lyon family, I realized that no one has a perfect, stereotypical life we all wish for. Katherine Lyon, a pilot's wife is was living this so called "picture-perfect life", until the unimaginable happened. ... Details of objects and the way Shreve described each part of the novel created images and pictures in my mind of the crash and the tragedy. Although the story was wonderful to read, the characters were alittle hard to relate to in age and experiences. Being a teenager, Mattie was the only character that stood out to me and reached to teenagers in real life dealing with a struggle. The way someone learned to live with the tragedy in their life which was greater than anything I could imagine encountering, was an amazing story to read. I highly recommend reading this sympathetic, emotional novel. "The Pilot's Wife" will absorb your thoughts and create a dream within papers bound together in your hands.
Rating: Summary: A well-written novel Review: I found this book to be very predictable, although it was still a page-turner. From the beginning it was obvious to me that Jack was leading another life. There were clues throughout the book that gave it away. Anita Shreve did an excellent job writing the novel, she has a fluid writing style. It was very descriptive with details. It was easy for me to picture the house and the beach scenes from the author's writing. Shreve wrote the story so that the reader could truly understand what was happening. The reader could experience Kathryn's pain through the writing. Anita Shreve developed the characters well, although some actions Kathryn took seemed to be somewhat unrealistic. Kathryn was hard to relate to, but I guess if I had been a pilot's wife it would have been an easier relation. The beginning was much more suspenseful then the end. The ending was awful and was a huge disappointment. The book itself was very entertaining. It was fast moving and compelling. Shreve has the reader captivated after the first few pages. I love how she got right to the point in the beginning of the novel. There were a few unexpected twists in the story that kept my attention going. It was subtle, suspenseful, and filled with grief. Overall it was a well-written and intriguing novel. It was worth reading and I would recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Easy Reader Review: From the moment I opened this book, I did not put it down until I finished it. The text was easy to read. The story line was easy to follow. It is a great book to read on rainy Sunday. I escaped for the day into this book.
