Summary: Didn't do anything for me...
Review: Kathryn finds herself a young widow with a teenage daughter after her husband is killed in a plane crash. Jack was piloting a plane that went down off the coast of Ireland. Before Kathryn and her daughter even have time to start their grieving process they are thrown into a deep investigation of what exactly made that plane go down and was Jack involved in something malicious. The story unfolds as Kathryn does some digging around of her own, however, what she finds if pretty predictable and the way Kathyn, a very dry personality, reacts does not create an exciting read.

The plot has its merits but it's delivery is lacking. I need characters that I can feel for. People with charisma and character. Shreve needs to spend more time character building and less on unplausible plots. I give this one 3 stars.

Summary: A Wonderful, Descriptive Read
Review: Anita Shreve is an author in which writes in a distinct manner and is able to keep the reader involved to the very last page. The descriptives used helps the reader become attached to the character(s) of the book and enables them to feel the emotion that is involved in the story. The Pilot's Wife is a wonderful story of loss, recovery, and love with a twist in the end. A very enjoyable and emotional read from an obviously talented writer.

Summary: An emotionally rich read!
Review: I am a person whose empathy is easily elicited, so I was completely engaged in the emotional roller-coaster ride of Kathryn Lyons. What I found unique in this book was the in-depth depiction of Lyons' emotional responses, first to the news of her husband's death, and then to the subsequent revelations as they came to light....The only reason I didn't give this book a 5-star rating is that the plot is a bit too contrived.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great read...another Oprah pick
Review: I really enjoyed this book. The idea of creating a totally complete yet seperate life is very interesting. The quest of the "pilot's wife" to find out what really happened on her husband's plane is a page-turner! Some people will not like the ending, but I think it is realistic...no fairy tale here, just a great story.

Summary: Let me just say... UGGGHHHHHH!
Review: HORRIBLE. BORING. PREDICTABLE. There are about 5 interesting pages, you can imagine what the rest is filled with. It is an interesting concept and might have made a WONDERFUL short story, but not a full lenght novel. It was just PAINFULLY boring. Slow, painful, overly descriptive (of nothing), boring. If you've already read it, sorry. If not, keep searching you haven't found the right one yet.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Somewhat Predictable...
Review: ...but still worth a read. From the beginning I wondered where (and if) the book would draw in its readers in terms of twists and turns, and when the book's shocker is revealed, it definitely packs a punch. The book does a good job of exploring a family's tragedy after the loss of a father and husband, while at the same time explores issues in a marriage that surface only after a death.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Weak weak writing!
Review: What was all the hype about? This was a terribly dissapointing shallow novel that did not deserve the success it received thanks to Oprah's show.

It was predictable, lacking in compelling detail, contrived and at many times, boring.

Don't waste your time or money!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Very sad story
Review: Interesting situation, Kathryn is deceived by her husband, but now he is dead. A very sad story in that she never gets the answers to her questions. The intermingling of flashbacks in nicely done, giving the reader, but not Kathryn, clues as to what's going on. I do wish that the character of Julia was more developed. The unfolding mystery was somewhat predictable, but following Kathryn with her clues made it a page turner (an easy read, got through it in three days).

Summary: boring
Review: boring...just boring!To much boring.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: If you've seen a Lifetime movie you know how this story goes
Review: I made the mistake of blindly following the recommendations of the Oprah book club and buying this book. When I got into the gist of the story I had already figured out one of the "secrets." It was predictable and overdramatic. If you must read this one, don't waste your money--check it out from the library.
