Summary: RESCUE ME FROM PREDICTABILITY
Review: I read Nicholas Sparks' "The Notebook," and thought it was one of the best books I've ever read. I even bought a few copies for my friends. I also loved "Message In A Bottle." I considered myself a Nicholas Sparks fan, but I'm not so sure now after reading "THE RESCUE." It reads like a first novel and I am so disappointed. I was tempted several times to put it back on my book shelf, but miraculously I made it all the way through the book. I do agree with one other reviewer that the subject matter was deeper than it seemed. However, my biggest complaint about the book is the predictability factor. It was so darn predictable. I compare this book with "The Bridges of Madison County," i.e., a lot of fluff over nothing. Mr. Sparks...I hope you do better in your next novel, or you're going to lose me as a fan. Most sincerely, Susan from Dayton, Nevada.

Summary: I devoured this book!
Review: What an emotional experience it was. Maybe I was more involved in it than most because my husband has devoted his life to saving lives as a fire-fighter, but if you plan to read this book, which I hope you do, get ready for an emotional roller-coaster. The characters were wonderful, the writing wonderful, as usual, Mr. Sparks is a master at writing about love, life and death.
This novel grabs your attention immediately, as a young mother has an auto accident in the middle of a bad storm. She is knocked unconscious temporarily, and when she wakes up and turns around to check on her only passenger, her 4 yr. old son in the back youth car-seat, he is gone, the door open on his side. A volunteer fireman comes to her rescue and the story takes off from there as the search begins for Kyle, the young boy with learning disabilities, who can hardly talk, understand or be understood, making the search more intense for all involved. Tyler McAden is the fireman/rescuer of this woman, who puts himself in harm's way to rescue others and takes chances with his own life that even most firemen would not take. He is good at what he does, but the reader doesn't know what motivates and drives him until the end, and it is sooo moving, your heart just chokes up on you. The whole book has a lot of action, tender moments between its characters and is now my all-time favorite by Nicholas Sparks. I read the library's copy then went out and bought my own (yes, from Amazon) for my own library. Loved it!!

Summary: Outstanding Book!
Review: Normally I prefer to read Christian Fiction, but Nicholas Sparks is the exception to the rule. He is an exceptional writer and I truly enjoyed this book. It was every bit as good as "The Notebook", and "A Walk To Remember". I loved the way he built up the relationship between Taylor McAden and Kyle (the little boy). It was so touching to me. I loved how he wrote the intimate parts of the book so tactfully. What can I say except that if you like a good romance- buy this!

Summary: Moving love story. Haven't read 1 like this for a long time!
Review: Each and every one of us may have some part of us that we want to keep buried, to keep personal. The trauma of past painful events may be something we want to keep to ourselves only. It becomes part of us and something we carry everyday. Sometimes, it becomes so large that it will affect the daily choices we make and influence how we live our lives. This is how Taylor McAden, the main character of this story feels.

Due to a terrible tragedy that had cost his father's life when Taylor was a little boy, Taylor had live his life with constant guilt and an urge to save people in hope to redeem himself. As a volunteer fireman in a small North Carolina town, he rescues Denise and her son Kyle during a hurricane.

Denise is a single mother with a 5 yr old son who has speech problems. After she quits her teaching job to work with Kyle's speech problem, she's struggling financially to make ends meet. Therefore, she decides to leave her life in Atlanta to move to N. Carolina, where her grandma left her a house.

After Kyle was saved by Taylor, they developed a special relationship. Kyle, under Taylor's companionship and care, transformed and became more like a normal 5 yr old. At the same time, Taylor and Denise began to fall in love. However, Taylor is haunted by his fears and guilt for his father's death so he starts to pull back, leaving Denise devastated. Will love triumph? This is a touching story where two people with their own emotional baggage find each other and ultimately finds love.

This was my first experience reading Nicholas Sparks' novels. It was a definite "wow"! Now I'm on a mission to hunt down his other works. You will definite enjoy them.

Summary: The Rescue
Review: The Rescue is a combination of romantic and adventure. This is an amazing book and you won't be able to put it down. The suspense and anticipation of what is going to happen next is outstanding. The author Nicholas Sparks illustrates this book so you feel like you are there sharing the pain or the joy. I felt I actually knew these people and wanted to lend a hand. All the conflicts are things that happen in life that everyday you face like kids not wanting to cooperate. These problems help you relate to the characters even more. This is a great book and I highly recommend it.

Summary: Finding love and making peace with one's past
Review: THE RESCUE by Nicholas Sparks

The book opens with a horrific storm, and Denise Holton is driving home on the highway with her son Kyle. She loses control of the car and ends up in an accident, losing consciousness. If it hadn't been for volunteer fireman Taylor McAden coming to the rescue, she would have surely died.

As Taylor is seeing to it that Denise is ok, Denise looks behind her car seat for her son Kyle, and discovers he is missing. The back door is open, and Taylor admits he did not know there was a boy in the car with her. She's in a panic, mainly because Kyle is not a normally adjusted child. For some unknown reason, Kyle has a problem with language, and will not come if someone were to call out his name. Knowing this, the search for Kyle would be impossible, especially since the car crash was near a swampy area known to lose people in normal weather. The odds of finding Kyle were pretty slim.

Denise is taken to the hospital, while the search continues for the young 5-year old. Taylor, who seems to have the gift of finding and rescuing people, miraculously finds Kyle hiding in a duck blind, unharmed. Mother and son are reunited.

Denise and Taylor develop a mutual attraction for each other, and slowly they start up a friendship that soon becomes a romance. Taylor seems to be the man of Denise's dreams, and to top it off he loves Kyle. Most persons who have met Kyle are awkward with him, because of his speech impediments and his learning disabilities. But, not Taylor. He treats little Kyle as a normal healthy boy, and soon Kyle becomes attached to his mother's new friend. Taylor is Kyle's hero and the father he never had. Denise watches as Kyle begins to develop better language skills and he does things he never was able to do before. He plays catch with Taylor. He rides on roller coasters. Kyle's life is totally changed. He slowly comes out of his shell.

In the meantime, Denise and Taylor become closer. Things are going wonderfully well until they attend a party held by Taylor's closest friends Mitch and Melissa. Mitch is his childhood friend and together they are part of the volunteer fireman group. Melissa is like the sister Taylor never had, and she teases him throughout the gathering, asking whether he is going to marry Denise. Taylor reacts by choking on his food, and becomes distant the rest of the evening.

Unsurprisingly, their relationship turns for the worse. Instead of seeing Denise every day and every night, Taylor uses work as an excuse for not coming by. He shuts her out, just as he did with every other girlfriend he's had. But, the difference between the other women and Denise is that Taylor really loves Denise, and he had felt that she was someone special in his life. So, why the change in behavior? Denise spends many nights in tears, wondering what had happened to the relationship that she so hesitantly opened her heart to. After years of not trusting any man to come into her life, she decided to trust Taylor.

Obviously, there was a reason for Taylor's turnabout behavior. No one knows why he is unable to commit to any woman, but Denise eventually finds out. It's a tragic past that has held Taylor a prisoner, and it is up to those around him to set him free.

I thoroughly enjoyed THE RESCUE. I've read a number of books by Nicholas Sparks, and I have to say that this is one of my favorites so far. For those of you who enjoy a good romance and tearjerker, this one is for you.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I loved this book and was crying at the end. I really enjoy Nicholas Sparks books and I think the people that disliked this book probably shouldn't be reading Spark's books. This is what he writes. I don't just like romance novels, I like it when things don't go perfect, when the characters have to overcome something and it's not like a soap opera and things just work out. If you are a mom or even a parent for that matter you will appreciate this mother-son relationship and it will tug at your heart. A Bend it the Road and The Rescue are two that must be read! If you din't like these, then you're reading the wrong type of books all together! I just bought his latest tonight and can't wait to read it and whatever he has planned for us next!

Summary: Touched My Heart
Review: Despite the shaky reviews by the other amazon.com reviewers for this book, I was touched in a totally unique way after reading it. The book appealed to me because my older brother was very much like young Kyle (a child with language delay and communication problems) and I could totally relate to what his mother, Denise Holton, has been going through. Spark's style of writing is so readable and not cryptic in anyway. His characters are so captiviting and realistic that they motivate you to finish the book to the very end. I have never read any other Nicholas Sparks's works, and I plan on reading the rest of his works.
