Summary: Good, a few peeves....
Review: When volunteer fireman Taylor saves Denise a struggling single mom from a terrible car accident, little does he realize the new direction his life will soon be taking. Over time, Taylor is comes to appreciate Denise appearence, and her parenting skills, and Denise is impressed with Taylor's loving nature. Can Denise and Taylor overcome their past differences to become a family together? I listened to the audio version of the rescue, and really thought Johnny Heller did an excellent job narrating this book. I especially liked the way he read Denise's character, I've noticed some narrators have difficulty reading characters of the opposite gender. Not so with Heller. Bravo. I also appreciated Spark's tackling a difficult topic: Language Impairment, and especially the fact that the main character was a woman. Excellent.

Now, for a few pet peeves:

1. Taylor: I grew quickly tired of Taylor's "fear of commitment" issues. This subplot had me rolling my eyes, and asking myself: Why,why, why - the author had to include this cliche character flaw? Taylor's reticence to emotionally commit to Denise cost this book a star because this is the most overused character flaw for male romantic leads in the romance industry. My advice. Use something else. Quickly.

2. Denise: The "Saint Mommy" attitude got a little tiring after a while. Does this super mom have any flaws? Also, while I really appreciate Denise's desire to 'go it alone,' without her baby's father's financial support, I felt it was extremely unrealistic and selfish. The financial support of the child's father could've benefited her son in many ways. Why do so many authors feel they have to 'show the heroine's independence' by scoffing at child support, or worse, in Denise's case, not even pursuing her child's father for it? Please!

While these peeves may seem small, I get a bit tired of reading the same thing over and over in romantic novels. Variety please! Overall, though, if you can ignore some of these cliche's (overused again and again in the industry), this was a satisfying book, sure to delight readers of romance and romantic fiction.

Summary: Boring in the beginning but then entices you to read on
Review: Overall, I must say I really did enjoy this book. I admit the beginning was a bit boring and I had to really force myself to read on in places, however, I am so happy that I pushed myself. It took me a while to read the first half of the book but once I got to about the middle, I found myself staying up until 5AM to finish reading it! I read the second half of the book in one night because I could not put it down. I grew to really love the characters. I thought it was a beautiful, touching story. I laughed at places and I definately did cry some happy tears at the end! The book was well worth the read. I recommend it to everyone. Give it a chance and you will like it at the end, I promise! Happy reading!

Summary: Sweet book
Review: I read this book because I liked the movie A Walk to Remember. Actually, A Walk to Remember was really the book I wanted, but after I couldn't find it in the bookstores, I settled for the rescue. It wasn't a bad book, and it wasn't a book that I would say that I'm going to cherish forever.

The story was interesting enough to keep me interested. It centered around a single mother who's son has a hard time learning and comprehending language, and a contractor/firefighter who's father died tragically making way for the "I'll-never-love-a-woman" promise. The characters were horribly cliched. He stuck the two lead characters in traditional male-female roles that. It even got a little corny in places, but the story was interesting enough to keep me reading. The author did a very good job at portraying a mother's love and determination to help her son. It was a sweet story that tugged at the heartstrings, but don't expect to find anything deep and profound here.

Summary: Simple and unsubstantial.
Review: I credit the author for pulling me in to the story up until the last 50 pages or so. It reads like a made for tv movie with short sentences and simple words. I kept reading though, simply wanting to know what Tyler's problem was. Then I decided I didn't really care and left it. The plot is oversimplified and the author counts on pulling the heartstrings of the reader through the circumstances of the characters, and idealistic ideas about romantic love rather than through meaty and intelligent writing. This book is fluffy beach reading. If that's what you're into you'll probably like it but if you want a book of real substance that doesn't insult your intelligence with it's simplified, formulaic style, pick up something else.

Summary: Great
Review: This is only the second of Spark's books which I have read (I read A Walk to Remember) and it was very emotional. Although it was a great book, part of it was predictible. Even so, the story about Denise's romance with a fire fighter and her raising of Kyle, her son, was enough to keep me interested in the book. I give it a 4 and a half.

Summary: The Rescue
Review: The book The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks was a really good read. I enjoyed reading every page. It was a book that you never wanted to put down. I definitely thought that this book was better than any of his others. I think that this book would be best intended for teenagers starting at the age of 16 and up. Anyone younger than that might not be able to read it because of the vocabulary or just the simple fact that it's a hard read. I really enjoyed reading this book because of the characterization and imagery. Sparks did a really nice job of describing his characters and letting the audience know who they were. I also like the imagery that he used. You really felt like you were there right next to all of the characters. This book was really good at stirring your emotions. You really felt for the characters that were going through a hard time. For instance when Denise lost her son after the car accident, you really felt something for her. The only big thing that I didn't like about Spark's book was that the plot was way too predictable. It was like every other love story. The girl is struggling with life and love and then her prince charming that she never knew existed came running to her rescue. If I had to rate this book, I would give it an 8 out of 10. It really keeps your interest, and has a lot of great elements to make this a truly great book.
