Summary: Utterly Fantastic
Review: I read Nicholas Sparks' book "Message in a Bottle" after seeing the movie. I loved the movie, but it was no comparison to the book. After that, I read his other two books, "The Notebook" and "A Walk To Remember". Needless to say, I was thrilled with both and I was ecstatic when I learned about "The Rescue". I bought it immediately. I wasn't disappointed. This is a fantastic tale of a lonely firefighter (who, by the way, doesn't realize he's lonely) and a single mother of a child who has trouble learning (the child, not the mom). When the two meet, well, you'll just have to read the book for yourself. I'm telling you, it's well worth it!

Summary: Genuine and satisfying emotionally
Review: Nicholas Sparks writes good romance! I felt the characters were believable as was their dialogue. Taylor and Denise's personal pain, their desire, their struggles to live decent balanced lives all seemed pertinent to me, an average U.S. citizen, even though I am not raising a child with strong learning deficiencies, nor am I courageous, melancholy volunteer fireman. The dynamics of their interpersonal relationship was real, it could have been me and my husband talking when first we started dating. And finally, a happy ending makes for high ratings in and of itself! I recommend this for fast and satisfying, light romantic reading.

Summary: There is a light at the end of the tunnel!
Review: Taylor McAden is a volunteer fireman with a death wish. His life's direction is in response to an incident that took place in his childhood. The author alludes to it but it is not till the end that it all comes together and we find out that Taylor isn't the only one doing the rescuing.

The book starts with Kyle, a missing four year old that has limited language skills and understanding. After a car wreck where his mother, Denise Holten is knocked unconscious, he has wandered away and is now lost somewhere in the swamp on a stormy night. With limited resources, a child that won't answer if called, and the temperature dropping we are off to an interesting beginning. Sparks molds his characters with such deference and intimacy. He grants us insight into the undaunting trials and tribulations of a mother faced with what appears to be an impossible task, the love and strength of heart of a little boy and Taylor who steps in and is eventually saved from himself.

This is an excellent book that will leave you in tears as well as make you smile. I've read all of Spark's books and I must admit I liked this one the best. He just keeps getting better...

Summary: Thoroughly Disappointed
Review: Nicholas Sparks has a history of writing tender romance with twists of fate, unforgettable characters, and surprise endings. This book is formulaic, dull, and predictable. It's nothing more than a sweet romance, likeable on its own only if one is not expecting the quality of Sparks' previous offerings. I kept waiting for the surprise found in each of the author's previous books; in this one it never materialized. I hope he hasn't sold out to the idea of simply pumping out more fiction in a hurry; I would rather wait a few years for a novel of the quality Sparks gave us with his previous books.

Summary: Well I'll Be!
Review: I hate reading and the only reason I bought this book was because I was going on a 13 hour bus ride and I had nothing to do. The fact that it had something about a firefighter in it got me to buy it. Well I'll be! I loved it! I got so in to this book that I wondered what going to happen while I was at work and could'nt keep reading. I would picture different outcomes but they were never right. This book was awsome and now I plan to catch up and read all of N. Sparks books before he writes next years book. I really was suprised.

Summary: Sappy and formulaic
Review: I stuck with this book to the end hoping it would get better, but unfortunately, it never did. The characters are completely wooden with no eccentricities or any interesting qualities, and the plot is nonexistent. It's not a great love story, or even an ordinary, beautiful love story. It's just talking heads who carp about man/woman relationship cliches, and the resolutions are just as cliched.

I know there are a lot of glowing testimonials here for this book, but if *you* think a great love story is something like that in The Thorn Birds or Prince of Tides, don't waste your time on this drivel...

I hate to be this negative, but I kept hoping Hannibal Lector would come along and ... off some of the characters so the book would be a little more interesting or at least would end sooner.

Summary: Readable but not a Must-Read
Review: I like novels with Romance but this one was absolutely dripping! The characters do develop throughout the story and everyone can relate to the emotions felt when it comes to affairs of the heart and the complications that often arise, however, not enough plot to keep the reader focused.

Summary: Simply Good!!
Review: What can I say... this book ROCKS!!! I've been readingDanielle Steel and lately her books are a little alike. Her books aregetting a little "cookie-cutter" like filled with more words andpages than necessary. Not here. The book has no unnecessary fillers. It's just PERFECT.

"The Rescue" was a step up in readingfor me. Starting to become a volunteer fire fighter myself, this bookheld a lot of meaning and connection to me, but beyond that, it wassimply a REALLY good story.

It has wonderful characters andcharacter development. There are a lot of surprises and an excitingdiscovery at the end. This book was a great read and in the end, youwere left with a content sigh, thinking how nice it was to finallyread a good, well written, well developed, and creative book filledwith excellent characters, drama, romance, humor, and surprises. Thisis the second book by Nicholas Sparks I've read and he has become mypreferred author.

Summary: A real heart felt, tear jerking novel
Review: I have been a Nick Sparks fan since "The Notebook." I have pre-ordered each of his books, and have not been the least bit disappointed in the product. The man has a gift like no other. In The Rescue, the relationships, the dialogue, everything about the story is so realistic. As well as the other books he was written. I would recommend this novel to any one...without thinking twice!

Summary: Simply Wonderful
Review: This was my second book I read by Sparks. It was wonderful. The characters seem so real and down to earth. I love how Sparks writes his characters. Denise and Kyle will touch your life in this novel. I kept feeling sorry for them, however in the end, it turns out splendid! The romance between Denise and Taylor was touching, I had to keep reading. Judy, Taylor's mother, was so charming and strong. This is a must read novel, you won't be disappointed.
