Rating: Summary: Beautifully written! Review: I am a mom with two very young children so it is difficult for me to find a lot of time to read. I received this book as a gift and I finished it in two nights! I could not put it down and, like most of Nicholas Sparks' books, I cried at the end. It is so beautifully written. The characters have a lot of depth and by the end of the book I felt that I knew them personally. I have passed this book along to my mom and will continue to pass it along to everyone I know that loves a good read!
Rating: Summary: Superb! Review: First off, if I could give this book TEN stars, I would!!! But, the highest we can go, in actuality, is 5... so, it's definitely a "5 Star" read!!! I've read Sparks' other novels, through the years, and have enjoyed them all. They have all touched my heart/life in some way. "The Rescue" touched me more deeply than the others, combined. A storm... a deer... a little boy... a single mother... a man who only lives to punish himself... are all elements that create the setting for an incredible tale of love. As I turned the pages, getting to know all the characters, I found myself lost in emotions... At times, I was nervous -- rocking back n' forth in my seat! Later, I was curious -- wondering what secrets Taylor held within himself. Deeper into the story, I found myself angry -- at Taylor's reluctance to love. And finally, as the relationship came full-circle, I had tears in my eyes. Literally. This is an incredibly written drama. Nicholas has the uncanny ability to make you love his characters. You see them as "real" people, and their emotions become your own. This book will make you feel. This book will teach you that saying "I love you" isn't that hard after all. Enjoy!!!
Rating: Summary: Perfect! Review: I have read every book Nicholas Sparks has written. This book was so different to any of his other books, because the person doesn't die in this one. I love all of his books, but this one touched me. I love it because he writes out of experiences that can happen in life. This is definitely a must read! It was wonderful!
Rating: Summary: Where are the sparks? Review: Nicolas Sparks falls short of what I have come to enjoy in his previous novels. That is to say he has failed in creating a story to hold our interest because the ending is never in doubt. Rather one is never really caught up in the plot since there is a feeling we have been there before and we know almost precisely how we would write it and indeed Nicolas Sparks does exactly that. I am saddened and a bit ashamed for Mr. Sparks to have foisted this amateur novel upon us.
Rating: Summary: Very good read ! Review: I'm not sure if you have to relate to a book in some way but I feel as though I did not read the same book that Beverly read. I have a son with a speech delay and I can relate to how horrified a mother could be if her child was missing and she couldn't help find him. I've recommended this book to a few friends and they all loved it as well. So if you have a heart for children and a good romance, give Nicholas a afternoon of your time!
Rating: Summary: unfullfilled promise Review: I have enjoyed the author's previous work so I anticipated that this story"Rescue" would be a "good read". I tried to become involved with the characters and to care about what happened to them but about half way through...it was a struggle to finish. Nicholas Sparks is still a good story teller but this story missed the mark.
Rating: Summary: Small Town Heroes Review: Denise Holton is a single mother and lives in a small town in a house once owned by her grandparents. She works at a diner during the evenings, to allow her to spend the days raising and teaching her four-year old son, Kyle, who has a rare learning and speech disorder that renders him almost speechless. She is so absorbed in raising Kyle that she has no time left for herself or for romance. Her car was totaled in an accident, and Kyle wandered off from the car when she was unconscious. He was found by volunteer fireman Taylor McAden, who takes an interest in Denise and her son, and frequently drives her to work. Taylor and Denise soon develop a romantic relationship, which is aided by the fact that Taylor is very good with Kyle in spite of his language problems. However, Taylor has a reputation of backing away from relationships when they start to get too serious, and when he pulls away from Denise, she is furious because he is hurting Kyle also. The characters who inhabit this small town are warm and generous and real, and you know this story will eventually have a happy ending, in spite of the turmoil and angst they suffer along the way. The Rescue is an enjoyable, heart-warming story that you won't want to put down.
Rating: Summary: if you like Boring this is must read! Review: This is one of the most boring books I think I have ever read. It reads just like a Danielle Steele, so if you like her type then you should be happy. The only difference is the reader is spared the details of the lovemaking. But because this is written by a man there are lots of occasions for making love, even when the two aren't getting along otherwise they still end up in bed. Women don't write that way. What a total waste of time. But honestly everything he has written thus far reads this same way in my opinion! Everything here is so stinking predictable. Single mom living in small town meets single hunk and he saves her kid's live and guess what she falls in love, but he has serious emotional baggage from childhood and won't let anyone help.
Rating: Summary: Cute and romantic Review: A cute plot with an interesting twist and romance. It's good to know that men can come to grips with their ghosts and face reality. A truly superb romance.
Rating: Summary: A warm and pleasant story. Review: Our main characters are many in this book. There is Taylor, the fireman/remodeler, and Kyle, a cute and sensitive little boy, and Denise his mother. The story focuses on Taylor's never having gotten over and blaming himself for the death of his father, who died in a fire. Denise is an admirable and strong character. Kyle is a special child with special needs. Together, they must struggle through their own past haunts and fears, and try, in a world that has suddenly seemed to change for all of them, to pull together despite strong odds. At times the story is a bit soft, and I think emotions could have been delved into more, but it is a story to warm your heart and feed your soul for a little while, and couldn't we all use a little of that?
