Rating: Summary: A Good Summer Read Review: This book lacks the strong emotional impact of "The Notebook". Having read his other previous books which did not live up to "The Notebook" I was a little hesitant to pick this one up. I was afraid I'd be disappointed. Having said this, I found the book held my interest and was an enjoyable although somewhat predictable read. It is far better than "Message in a Bottle"!
Rating: Summary: Nicholas Sparks is one of the best romance writers today... Review: You know, Nicholas Sparks is the only man that can make me cry -- and it takes a lot to make me cry. THE RESCUE is a story that will make you cry, laugh, and much more. Am looking forward to his upcoming A BEND IN THE ROAD.
Rating: Summary: Just Okay Review: I enjoyed this book, but it was a little too predictable. Nothing so far compares to "Message in a Bottle."
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Review: This book is a page turner, I could not put it down. This is the first book I have read of Nicholas Sparks and I find him to be an excellent author. It is a love story with plenty of action and drama. You will finish the book feeling satisfied with the ending.
Rating: Summary: A Good Summer Read Review: My friend recommended this book to me while on a week vacation. She took the book jacket so I had no idea what I was getting into. The first part of the book had me feeling as though I was reading a book by M.H. Clark. It then predictably opened up into a wonderful/exquisite romance that at times had me asking, "Are there really any men like this out there?" The title, it seems, has multiple meanings. Several rescues, both literal and figurative occur from beginning to end. Although somewhat predictable I found the characters well-developed and I enjoyed following the romance. It is hard to believe that this book was written by a man. It's an easy read, and one that will have you coming back so you can see what ultimately happens between Taylor and Denise. I was appreciative of the Epilogue, as it brings closure to the story.
Rating: Summary: A predictable read... Review: Though the love story (yes it is a love story!) was well written the storyline was predictable. It was pretty easy to figure out who was going to die.Taylor, the firefighter, gets involved with a single mother, Denise, after rescuing her handicapped son. His inability to truly commit and the reasons why slowly unfold. The easily predicted death makes that change. If you are truly a romance addict you will probably enjoy it but Message in a Bottle was much better!
Rating: Summary: Romantic in all aspects of the word Review: Don't bother to read this book if you are not a romance lover. This book, like Sparks' previous books is a true romance. It is hard to believe that these books are written by a man. Usually the romance genre is tackled only by women authors. This is a romance book with a different twist - Denise is a single mom with a small child with a disability to raise. In other aspects she is a completely normal woman with no excess baggage. In this case it's the man that is carrying the excess baggage and we find out that this is what has stopped him from really living (of course until Denise comes along). A lot of the book is predictable. After the first four chapters, I knew who was going to get killed in the story. I also knew that this death was necessary to snap Taylor out of his self-defeating lifestyle. Not to give anything away, I won't say who did die. You'll have to read this book to find out. Go ahead. Read it if you like romances. You'll love this book.
Rating: Summary: An Entertaining Read Review: This is the third book that I've read by Nicholas Sparks and I thought that it was very well written, though predictable. The character of Denise as the strong, independent single mother to Kyle was one of the best qualities of the novel. I was moved by the strength of her love for her child and the fact that she had pretty much given up her life to help him overcome his learning and speech disability. I also liked Taylor's character and the fact that the author didn't give us the full details of why this character behaved the way he did. We knew that his father died at a young age but not the events leading up to that death. It was interesting to see them unfold. The relationship between Taylor and Denise was predictable but I like a good love story! Though I enjoyed this book, I would have to say that I thought his earlier novel, "A Walk to Remember" was by far the better story.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: Plot: The story takes place in North Carolina. Which is where Denise and her four year son, Kyle, have just moved. Denise is a single mother who is strugling to help Kyle with his learning disability. However, their lives would never be the same after one stormy night. Heavy rain and a deer would be the cause of all her problems, and the solution to them too. After sliding off the road and into a tree, Denise is left unconsious; while Kyle has wondered out into the dark swamp. After seeing her car off the road, Taylor McAden stops to see if he can help. Once Taylor is able to awaken Denise, she starts to panic, knowing that Kyle is no longer in the car. Fron there, Taylor puts together a rescue team to start searching the swamp. Denise was taken to the hospital not knowing if they would find her son or not. With the rain, darkness, and knowing the fact that Kyle would not answer if they just called his name, because of his learning disability, made everyone very doubtful. After a couple hours of searching, Taylor had an instinct that Kyle would move in the direction of the rain. So giving that, all the men formed a line and started walking in that direction. It had been about five or six hours whenthey reached some duck blinds. Because they would provide shelter from the rain, Taylor started searching them. It wasn't until the third one checked, that Taylor found Kyle. Kyle, although scared, was not harmed. After he was found he was taken to the hospital, where Denise had been waiting. She would recover with no problems. And that would be the beginning of a completely new life for her and Kyle. Review: I have, in the past read all of Nicholas' books. And this is by far the best one. If you have not read one of his books, I recommend you read this one first. His wirting makes you long to read until you have finished it. I connected with the book because it tells a story about using your strength and other people around you to get over a difficult part in your life, and moving forward. I know I've needed positive outlooks in my life in the past, and this book was one for me. I just got a very good felling from it. What can I say, I'm a hopeless romantic.
Rating: Summary: The Rescue's Review Review: In Nicholas Sparks' novel, The Rescue, the internal battles, which appeal to many readers, are the main conflicts. Throughout the novel Denise and Taylor both have major internal conflicts. This novel contains many literary devices from irony and foreshadowing to symbolism. These literary devices serve a significant purpose in the story plot. The books main ironic point is the fact that Denise and Taylor actually fall in love. Taylor is just an ordinary guy who happens to be in the right place at the right time. He stumbles onto a life changing experience. He never meant or expected to fall in love with Denise from just finding her after her car accident. It is irony because you would never think that you would find the love of your life after he has saved your life and your child's life. Another literary device is foreshadowing, and this is when Taylor saves Kyle's life one would never suspect that later in the story that Taylor would be saved. He is not literally save, but rather emotionally saved. Taylor has had to deal with a lot ever since his father died especially the fact that he blames himself. He has never been able to really love, but with the help of Denise he is able to over come that. Therefore, Taylor helping Denise is a perfect example of foreshadowing of how Taylor will be saved. The book also has symbolism when Taylor is searching through the forest for Kyle; he is really just searching for meaning in his life. Therefore, Kyle really symbolizes meaning. Taylor finds Kyle and also later in the novel finds meaning when he and Denise fall in love. The literary devices in the novel, The Rescue contribute to the effect that it will have on reader. This book is a great novel for the suspenseful and romantic type of person.
