Summary: Excellent
Review: Simply put, this book was great! I couldn't put it down! Perhaps his best yet.

Summary: 4 for 4...and counting
Review: Slow starter, but quickly begins to blaze <literally :)>. Has a lot of the emotional ups and downs found in 'The Notebook'. You quickly grow to really care what happens to the characters. Worth your while to read this one.

Summary: Read it twice!!!!!
Review: I have just discovered Nichlas Sparks and he is my favorite author now. This book had me thinking about it for weeks afterward. I read it twice, back to back. I still pick it up and reread parts. I can't get enough. These are tales of love, but realistic with real characters and real people. His words are easy to read, but depict such depth of the characters. he is truly talented, and if he weren't married; I'd pursue him myself!!!!

Summary: Stale Potato Chips
Review: Imagine you're in the grocery store checkout line, and you realize you're hungry. You grab a bag of potato chips and munch them fairly mindlessly. As you make your way toward the bottom of the bag, you realize; these chips aren't very good. Still, you keep eating them because you've made it this far, you might as well finish the bag.

That was my reaction to The Rescue. It had an intriguing, but implausible plot--a down on her luck, devoted single mother and child who needs special help are rescued by a man who himself needs rescuing because of a childhood trauma. Even if you buy into the plot, there's still more to dislike about the book, such as the dialogue, which often is choppy and seems to stand apart. Then there are the distracting descriptions of what Kyle (the child with the language problem) sounded like he was saying ("Hewwoo, Money.") After the first few times, it was overkill. Finally, it was pretty hard to believe that Taylor ("Tayer")-- who had been haunted by his guilt for over 20 years, and who had just been unable to rescue his best friend-- could suddenly (and without any type of therapy or mood altering drugs) decide to move forward and live happily ever after.

It was greasy, it was stale, and it wasn't worth the calories. Next time, I'm going for the Cheetos.

Summary: Another great novel by Nicholas Sparks
Review: I have enjoyed other works by Nicholas Sparks, but this one really is the best I've read by him. It really struck home with me, the internal struggles that people have that keep them from being able to love themselves, and to love others. It was as if Sparks could let some light into some past relationship issues that I faced, personally. I couldn't put the book down. It will make you experience every feeling and emotion, as do many of his stories.

Summary: Another Winner
Review: I so enjoy Nicholas Sparks' writing. I am always totally amazed by the fact that these wonderful romance books have been written by a man.

In the Rescue I was quickly drawn into the story of Taylor and Denise; two very lonely people who find each other on a stormy night because of a twist of fate. The centre of Denise's life is her son, Kyle. Unwed and raising a child with a learning disability, Denise has become a strong and independent woman. Taylor on the other hand jumps from relationship to relationship always avoiding that final commitment. Plagued by horrifying memories, Taylor is made to face yet more disaster in his life. The perfect meshing of two lives and true love.

I look forward to Nicholas Spark's next book.

Summary: Story Telling at its Best
Review: Nicholas Sparks is an amazing author, and this book was fantastic. It delves into the complexities of love and life, and builds likeable and solid characters from the start. At times, I wanted to shake Taylor and tell him to put aside his baggage and take a chance, but mostly, the love story emerged incredibly well in this story, and the plot flowed amazingly well. I did not know which way the ending would go, and was pleasantly surprised. This book is a page turner for a rainy day, or for the beach. It will not let you down.

Summary: Sparks has done it again
Review: Sparks has done it again. The depth and emotion he pours into his books is amazing. He is definitely a master of spinning a love story. One that the average person can identify with. It is nice to read a clean romance novel that is true to life.

Summary: Nice read, but....
Review: I thought THE RESCUE was a nice summer read. The writing quality, male perspective and the realistic modern aspect of the romance set this book apart from the 'typical' romances it resembles.

However, the depiction of the child, Kyle, bothered me. Using fiction as a medical resource is never recommended, but I know I sometimes use the information I've read as a starting point, and I assume other people also might. Children with language delays and disorders vary widely, but Kyle's disorder and response to treatment was very atypical indeed. It is equally unlikely that the burden of care placed on the mother would be necessary or recommended except in the case of certain specific disorders. So a word to the wise. In my opinion, the information presented in THE RECUE about therapy techniques, etc. should not even be used as a jumping off point.

Summary: "You already know (what you should do)"
Review: Feeling a little uneasy that Nicholas Sparks might have changed his writing style when I looked at the relatively voluminous 4th book vaguely entitled The Rescue, I decided I should give him another try after A Walk To Remember. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise and somewhat intrigued awe that Nicholas Sparks has woven suspence, tragedy and ironies in his latest romance novel. The first few chapters were brisk and heart-wrenching when an adorably described 4-year-old was found missing after an accident, leaving his mother distressed and in a daze. Descriptions of characters, especially Kyle (a verbally impaired child), displayed so much of Nicholas' linguistic dexterity and ultimate mastery in writing. The story is not at all draggy nor told tersely, but at a pace such that you enjoy every word like drink for the soul. Beautifully crafted, almost reminiscent of the movie Frequency, and filled with nuances of love and life -- A must-read for all avid readers and Nicholas Sparks fans. That's what you should do.
