Rating: Summary: Superb! Review: First off, if I could give this book TEN stars, I would!!! But, the highest we can go, in actuality, is 5... so, it's definitely a "5 Star" read!!! I've read Sparks' other novels, through the years, and have enjoyed them all. They have all touched my heart/life in some way. "The Rescue" touched me more deeply than the others, combined. A storm... a deer... a little boy... a single mother... a man who only lives to punish himself... are all elements that create the setting for an incredible tale of love. As I turned the pages, getting to know all the characters, I found myself lost in emotions... At times, I was nervous -- rocking back n' forth in my seat! Later, I was curious -- wondering what secrets Taylor held within himself. Deeper into the story, I found myself angry -- at Taylor's reluctance to love. And finally, as the relationship came full-circle, I had tears in my eyes. Literally. This is an incredibly written drama. Nicholas has the uncanny ability to make you love his characters. You see them as "real" people, and their emotions become your own. This book will make you feel. This book will teach you that saying "I love you" isn't that hard after all. Enjoy!!!
Rating: Summary: The Rescue Review: The Rescue, by Nicholas Sparks, was a touching and emotional modern day love story. I found myself captivated with the characters and the storyline was refreshing and appealing. This book will pull at the heart-strings and leave the reader with feelings of hopefulness and happiness. Nicholas Sparks is gifted in the art of detail and description. I found it was easy to relate to the characters and their daily struggles. The authors ability to describe the characters features, personalities, fears, joy and happiness made me feel as if I knew them. I could feel a common bond with the main character Denise. She was a single mother raising her son and I also a single mother, could see bits and pieces of myself in her. I could understand her protectiveness over her son and her willingness to give up her job to stay at home. Denise was a devoted mother, and a strong and decent person, that could find herself feeling the uneasiness of life. Taylor Mcaden was a kind and gentle man. He could overlook others faults and wanted to be their rescuer. Mcaden's only fault was being unable to forgive imself. Throughout reading the book and getting to know the characters the reader will be taken through emotional loops, that will make a person feel as if they are on an emotional roller coaster. The reader will find themselves to the point of tears and will then find themselves laughing out loud. After reading Nichoas Sparks, A Walk to Remember, I did not think a book could get any beter than that, but I have to say Sparks out did himself. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for his next book. I also recommend, The Rescue, to anyone who believes that true love still exist.
Rating: Summary: Tugs at your Heart Strings Review: After reading several Sparks love stories, The Rescue is not my favorite. However, it's a good book. Especially if you enjoy romance with a little bit of intrigue. This is the story of two people who have each individually been through a lot of tragedy and conflict in their past. The question is, once the find each other, and a love they never thought they would find, can they make it work? I enjoyed the book, Sparks writing always pulls you in and tugs at your heart strings. I don't think I've ever read one of his books and NOT cried. I especially enjoyed The Notebook and Message in a Bottle. His books are also always "fun reading", great to take on a vacation or to read at the beach. If you haven't read him before, you should give him a try!
Rating: Summary: The Rescue Review: Nicholas Spark's heartfelt novel, The Rescue, depicts a period of struggle for Denise, a single mother, and her young son, Kyle. Driving home on a stormy night, Denise is involved in a serious car accident leaving her badly wounded and in the presence of stranger. As she comes to, she realizes to her horror that Kyle is nowhere to be found. The difficult search for her son is complicated further by Kyle's speech impediment, which keeps him from thoroughly communicating with others and makes his rescue extremely difficult. This is undoubtedly the worst period of her life but fate does use this trying time to create and intense connection between Denise and her stranger, Taylor McAden. Sparks is successful in creating yet another emotionally gripping novel with likable characters. The relationship between mother and child is the strongest point of the novel because of the strong bond fully created between the two during their time of struggle. At times, the plot becomes slow and somewhat vague. However, readers of all ages will be able to identify with many of the human emotions shown all throughout The Rescue.
Rating: Summary: The past still haunts us. Review: What did happen to his father? Why should he put his life in danger to save others? Was it because of the way he was 'rescued' as a child? These are some pondering ideas to look for in this informative book. Actually there are more than one rescue in this novel, the second much more exciting and dangerous though incidental to the story. Without the first, which came much too soon in the book, the psychological aspect would have been nil. The 'hero' who volunteers for the fire dept. has a commitment problem to women without knowing the 'whys' or 'wherefores' -- thus had decided to become a bachelor and enjoy his friends' kids -- until he meets the inimitable Kyle. They teach each other what life is day-to-day and that love conquers all. The child's mother, poor Denise, has never really known love, only one foolish, incidental sexual encounter. Her life was totally changed because of the boy's 'disability,' and she has devoted her life to teaching him. That is, until they have the accident and are separated, with the hero finding them both. Romance is charmingly enunciated, causing me to smile a lot (at times) and want to hit him at others. Only in a novel or movie would things work out this way. Or is there hope for happiness with a stranger. Sometimes it works out that way. When he was able to confront his past headon, he could live a normal life. The baby made this book complete. I was drawn to this book because of the child who has trouble talking as my youngest grandson also has this problem. I was hoping to learn something worthwhile in this instance and it was there past the half way point -- so it was of some benefit after all.
Rating: Summary: Sparks knows a little something about humanity Review: This is the second book I read from Sparks and I liked it just as much as the first (Message in a Bottle). Although tragedy weaves its way into the plot, I was delighted with the happy ending. Ok, so the epilogue was a bit TOO HAPPY with the picket fence and Disneyland. Denise Holden is a great modern heroine. The same can be said for Taylor McAden, the leading man in the story. Taylor is a regular guy: construction worker, likes to hunt, drinks beer, drives a pick'em up truck with a gun rack. But he comes with some serious emotional baggage. Taylor likes and accepts Denise's 4 year old son, who has problems of his own. After going through a rocky spell, attributed to Taylor's aforementioned baggage, love triumphs in the end. And they lived happily ever after!
Rating: Summary: Sparks Shines! Review: I am an avid reader of Nicholas Sparks. This book definitely stands up to his previous track record for writing a story of the true human spirit. This story follows Denise, single parent mother, raising Kyle, who has a learning disability. Through what some might call fate, Denise meets Taylor, a local volunteer firefighter. There is an immediate connection and the two grow close quickly. Through twists and turns, Taylor's past begins to get in the way, and the stability of their relationship is questioned. I don't want to give away too many details, so just take my advice and dive into this romantic, heart-felt story.
Rating: Summary: Number4 Review: What did happen to his father? Actually there are more than one rescue in this novel, the second much more exciting and dangerous though incidental to the story. Rating: Summary: An okay book Review: This is the story of Denise who moves away from the big city to the country to raise her son Kyle who has a learning disability. During a rain day, Kyle gets lost the woods and a rescue effort is under way. The lead of the rescue effort is a firefighter named Taylor. Soon a relationship strts between Taylor and Denise and you witness their struggles and hardships. I'm a big Nicholas Sparks fan and I admit that this wasn't one of his best books. The story starts off great, but starts to drag about half way through and the ending is very predictable. At almost twice the length of a typical Nicholas Sparks book, it is no wonder why. I rarely say this about books but this one would have been better if it was shorter.
Rating: Summary: Not a bad read but lacks what past novels had Review: Denise is a single mother who must raise her child, Kyle, all by herself. Kyle has a disability with his speaking (can't pronounce words properly and doesn't speak much). When Denise is on her way home she's involved in an accident in the middle of a rain storm. When she comes to, meeting a stranger when she awakens, Kyle turns up missing. This stranger, later to be Taylor McAden, sets off and rescues Kyle early on. This quickly forms a strong bond between Denise and Taylor as Taylor soon stops by for visits to see her and Kyle as well. The book starts off high but unfortunately it doesn't soar for long. Once the beginning of this book is done with, it takes a long time for the love story and characters to develope. The book is about 400 pages, but the story paces extremely slow at times. The characters, yes, they're likeable. Sparks' always knows how to create interesting and intriguing characters. Not to mention the book is beautifully written with some of the most descriptive language there is to portray love. But as I said, things take too much time to develope. By about page 174 the love story finally becomes interesting but after a while it becomes hard to stick with it. You won't find yourself putting the book down anytime soon but you'll mostly read it just to see if it begins to pick up anytime soon. The book lacks what some of the past novels Sparks' has written had. A tear-jerking, heartwarming love story. The Rescue misses this element that some of his past books had ("A Walk to Remember" and "The Notebook" come to mind). For Nicholas Sparks fans, this book is enticing and you'll love it. It isn't his best work but it isn't neccesarily bad.
