Rating: Summary: What you wish for? Review: THIS is the best book . I am a dog lover myself and I understand protecting that beloved pet with anything.Hope this is one she makes into a series.Would love to follow Helen ,Sam ,Lucie and Max.And see what else she makes a toy factory. Keep them coming!
Rating: Summary: Contrived and silly and a big waste of money and paper!! Review: This is the first and last book I will read by this author. The subject matter interested me but the dialog in the book is just silly. Very contrived. A much better book with this subject matter is by Nora Roberts, who writes a million times better, called "Dance Upon the Air." Her subjects and dialog ring true, unlike Fern Michaels'. I was glad Helen became a strong woman by the end but I found the whole way she dealt with her husband to be far fetched. This book also has one of the worst editing jobs I've seen in a while. Sam's eyes are the bluest eyes she's seen and two pages later, he has a warm brown gaze. Then there's a whole paragraph about Max, the dog, and the next paragraph starts out, "She ran into his arms." The dog's arms? Oh, no, it's Sam again. It makes it hard to follow. This whole book is [weak]...
Rating: Summary: Top Notch From A Top Notch Author. Review: This was a wonderful two day read. I hated to see it end. I rooted for Helen every step of the way. I found out things I never knew about spousal abuse. The whole book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it. The husband was so sadistic I wanted to cry for Helen and her little dog. If I could give this book six stars, I would. I can't wait for her next book.
Rating: Summary: Powerfully written Review: Though the subject matter of this book is disturbing , Ms. Michaels handles it with such compassion and truth. Not sheilding us from the reality of this horrid dilemma facing thousands of women and children daily, but giving us hope that there are those who care, those willing to help.Perhaps too, she challenges us to open our eyes to those around us. Anytime an author can move someone through the mastery of storytelling, they have made their mark on the literary world. Ms. Michaels has achieved that mark, with this story. A must read for anyone with a heart.
Rating: Summary: What I SHOULD have wished for... Review: Was for this book to be over sooner. I am not one to write bad reviews just for the sake of writing them (in fact, this is my first one). However, I was astounded by the monotony and flatness of the characters and dialect in this book. I found myself reading it aloud to my husband to laugh at the absurdity of the conversations between characters. The whole thing made me feel like the writer had no confidence in her reader's intelligence and had to spell out every single thing. Please do not waste your time with this book.
Rating: Summary: this is a MUST read Review: We were on a cruise of Tahiti, Bora Bora and other ilands when I started this book. I stayed put and read this book from start to finish. Nicely written, captivating, a must read!
Rating: Summary: The Best! Review: What You Wish For is one of Ms. Michaels' best efforts to date. Being a victim of spousal abuse I could certainly relate to this book. It took a long time and much effort on my part, but with the help of God and very good friends I have been able to move on and make a new life for myself. I thank Ms. Michaels from the bottom of my heart for writing about this subject and making more people aware of this serious problem.
Rating: Summary: Great, riveting start but can't hold it for long Review: When I first started to read this book I found myself unable to put it down. The brutality of the husband and how Helen escapes was great. But, unfortunately, the story started to fall flat after a while. I really had a hard time believing how smart those two dogs, Max and Lucie were. The last straw was when Helen was loading the two dogs in the car. Max (THE DOG) buckled in Lucie (THE DOG) and then himself!!! Come on! I don't care how smart a dog he is supposed to be, there is no way he can do this! I was amazed that he didn't drive the car also. Have to agree with other reviewers that some of the dialogue was just plain silly and sometimes hard to follow. Too bad...the beginning had so much promise.
