Rating: Summary: An enjoyable read Review: "Did You Get the Vibe?" is a quick and enjoyable read. Following Tracy and Kate through their struggles with men, their weights and body images, and even with each other - it is sure to bring a smile of recognition to your face. It's refreshing to read a book with fully-developed characters - even the secondary characters have personality. I recommend this book highly.
Rating: Summary: 100%, A+++ blissful summertime reading! Review: A friend of mine recommended this book but I was dubious. She said it was a lot like "Sex in the City"; however, I have never seen that show nor care to, and I don't exactly fit the "chick lit" target audience. Even so, I picked up the book and found that I couldn't put it down! It was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. In my opinion the book defies any kind of genre stereotype. It is well written with solid characters and a fast-moving plot--elements I like in all good books!
The characters Kate and Tracy are so likable that I found myself really caring about the twists and turns their lives were taking. The book also helped me remember what it was like to be younger--the daily grinds and the major decisions I faced.
I'm looking forward to reading the next novel by this wonderful author!
Rating: Summary: Very Fun, Must Read! Review: Did You Get the Vibe? It's a question that my girlfriends and I always asked each other as we were dating, looking for "the one" and reading this book made me feel that these two were my girlfriends. Just like Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda are your girlfriends when you watch Sex and the City, Tracy and Kate are your girlfriends as you read this book! They are Chicago girls living in a hip neighborhood who battle the dating game, weight gain/loss, and all those other life-changing decisions. Kelly James-Enger knows how to write today's 20-something girls. It's a fabulous and fun read! I was totally able to identify with this book. I totally recommend this book for any 20 or 30 something.
Rating: Summary: Knowing yourself Review: I absolutely loved this debut novel. I was hesitant to purchase this "chick lit" book as I have become bored and somewhat sickened by the stuff published under "chick lit" these days. However, I am grateful that I went ahead and bought it. The two leads (female) are extremely interesting and well-defined characters. Oddly enough, the men, in this book play a distant third to the women and their relationship building - with themselves. The author has chosen to work on her leads and have them discover more and more about themselves with each event in their lives. Be it, career changes, Overeaters Anonymous meetings, these women are growing emotionally and spiriutally. There are lots of fun moments though and this book is far from being heavy or preachy. Buy it.
Rating: Summary: Sex in the Windy City Review: I loved it! I fell in love with the Kate character immediately and couldn't wait to see what happened to her. The first scene, where she was trying to find something to wear was just so hilarious - and SO ME! Surprisingly, although at first I couldn't relate to Tracy, the more I read, the more complex I realized she was. And by the end I just loved her. The dialogue in this book is just so real - my friends and I have those exact converations all the time. This book was like reading about me and my friends - only better. I highly recommend it. It's funny, and touching, and inspirational. I hope Kelly James-Enger writes more. I want to see what happens to Kate and Tracy!
Rating: Summary: loved it! Review: I read this book within a week, i couldnt put it down! I loved how the 2 friends related to each other.. just like my friends and I! Did you get the vibe, is something i often ask and want so this book is perfect for anyone trying to find their soul mate in the crazy dating world!
Rating: Summary: More than just a romance novel Review: I'm not a big reader of chick lit, but I very much enjoyed this story because it was more than just a romance novel--it gave a lot of inspiration both to people who are not happy with their careers and those with eating disorders. Kate had the courage to get out of a job she hated and into one she enjoyed even though it had less prestige and less money and Trace had the courage to confront her eating disorder. Also, there were several plot twists --not just the typical girl fantasizes about boy, girl meets boy, girl and boy live happily ever after.
Rating: Summary: 200 proof chick lit Review: In Chicago, best friend attorneys Kate Becker and Tracy worry about men, weight, and prestige, but not necessarily in that order. Tracy lives with Tom who she likes and is comfortable with as he is a caring nice individual. However, deep in her heart, confiding only with Kate, Tracy knows he does not set off the vibe in her bones. Kate cannot even find a partner let alone a vibe or two. Both seek something more exciting in their lives especially since work is awful. They try cyber searching and exchange emails with alleged studs, but nothing lights the vibe that each one wants. So they have eating disorders and share their hurts and worry that this is all there is. Kate and Tracy are solid lead characters with intriguing flaws while the support cast enables the audience to further see their respective neuroses and fears. However, the story line is 200 proof chick lit, never leaving the crypt of rules for a moment. Thus DID YOU GET THE VIBE is for sub-genre purists who will devour Kelly James-Enger's angst-laden plot, but occasional readers will never feel the vibe.
