Rating: Summary: ANOTHER GREAT READ FROM DEBORAH SMITH ! Review: "When Venus Fell" is right up there with my other favorites, "A Place to Call Home" and "Blue Willow". I enjoy the journey this author takes us on through her characters, who all are working their way through deep, emotional pain. She is a very sensitive writer and if a reader "does the work", the satisfying payoff is worth the effort. This is not to say that her books are too heavy. In fact, I often find myself laughing out loud. A talented writer will touch the reader at many levels. My favorite books are always the ones that make me laugh and cry. Yes, as one reader commented, "Venus" has some rough edges. Watching the way her edges are smoothed over is one of the most enjoyable aspects of this story. I, for one, am looking forward to Ms. Smith's next book!

Rating: Summary: I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful story Review: A fun and entertaining read. I wished I lived in that enchanting forest with all those amazing and endearing characters. A book I'll read over and over again just for the pure joy of it.

Rating: Summary: Great weekend read... Review: After reading A Place to Call Home, I was very excited about starting When Venus Fell. Although Smith's writing style was, as always, perfect, I had a hard time getting into the book and knowing the characters. An earlier reviewer mentioned that every character had issues, and none of them were described in enough detail. I definitely agree with this statement. Also, Venus' rough edges were almost too rough at times, and it disturbed the flow of the novel. But I would still recommend this novel for a weekend at the beach or by the fire...
Rating: Summary: A decent story with some charm Review: After reading this book I realized two things. I still like Mrs. Smith's books and the book was not quite wrapped up. The usual attention to detail is present in this story as it is in all of Smith's books. The families portrayed have a large number of problems-and were not all resolved after 446 pages. I know the limitations of character development in a medium size book, but I wish Smith had taken this into account while writing. On the other hand, not all issues in life are resolved. Despite this one complaint I enjoyed the book a lot. The humor is not heavy-handed and did cause me to smile many times and laugh aloud a few more. ... I would prefer this book get 3 1/2 stars instead of 3. The book is worth reading if you are looking for something light and cute.

Rating: Summary: Laugh-out-loud funny! Review: All of her books are entertaining, but I found myself laughing aloud many times with this one.
Rating: Summary: Laugh-out-loud funny! Review: An uplifting and enchanting story of two familys. One so strong nothing could break their love and devotion to each other and the honor they held for past loved ones, another that had shattered through the corse of time and left them grasping onto memories and dignity that had worn and faded away through mistakes and loses, and the binds that brought them together. This book is a classic love story and reminds people of the value of family and the simple things in life. This story shows that there are still people in the world who care enough to defend others and to hold on to faith and hope, because when that's lost, there is no more reason for living. I HIGHLY reccomend this book, I couldn't put it down!!
