Rating: Summary: Fielding has in-depth characters, & adds twists to the story Review: I enjoyed this book. I give it 3.5 stars only because the story took me in such a different direction that it was almost disappointing.I did enjoy the story and as usual, Fielding has very good characters, and she builds them right from the opening line. Is Terry imagining that she is being targeted for mistreatment? Or is there a real threat to her life? Her friend, Alison...is she too good to be true? Fielding has a great talent for storytelling, and this one is no exception. It was a good read, but perhaps a bit contrived. Yet, that is what makes the story surprising. (I don't want to give it away....no spoilers here!) If you are a Fielding fan, than this one is for you. I would recommend this book to other readers.
Rating: Summary: could be a Lifetime movie! Review: I have read just about every book from Joy Fielding. This one may not be as good as the other's, but it certainly is worth reading. My first thought reading this book was "isn't this a Lifetime movie?". I thought I knew what was going to happen in the end, but I was left with my mouth wide open. I bet this story will eventually make it to the Lifetime network, but in the meantime settle in for a good read.
Rating: Summary: Suspenseful? I didn't think so. Review: This was my first Joy Fielding book and I just did not enjoy it very much. I found the main character annoying through most of the book and kept thinking "Why is she being so dense?" numerous times. I had the "Why am I trying to finish this?" feeling through much of it. Nearing the end, I just scanned the last pages to get to the end and when finished felt that I had been deceived. I would not call this book suspenseful, but rather misleading...but, that's just my opinion. Luckily, I moved on to read "Lovely Bones," a great book written from a unique perspective.
Rating: Summary: From Muldane to Magnificent Review: This book started out slow and at times I couldn't figure out why I was still reading it. Terry is a middle age woman who is lonely in her life and lives in the house she was raised. She rents out the cottage on the property to young women. Still sad from the sudden disappearance of her previous tenant she lets Allison bulldoze her into moving in without checking references. Told in part by Terry's point of view on events and Allison take on the same events readers are led to believe that we know the whole story. Allison is a highly motivated woman who is about to swindle Terry out of her home and money. As we keep reading waiting for this end, Fielding begins to weave her magic. Terry begins to check out Allison's stories which have no truth to them and then she is stalked by her former tenant's boyfriend. This is becoming a predictable story of taking advantage of a lonely person and slowly driving them nuts. At this point I almost gave up on the story and went to the last chapter. For some reason the writing compelled to keep reading just a couple more chapters. I am glad Fielding has the writing ability to keep readers hooked even when the storyline starts to fall apart. As the ending approaches I had to reopen my mind and accept startling new evidence which turn this book from a dud to a must read.
Rating: Summary: Mystery and Suspense Review: This book was, as usual of Joy Fielding, riveting. I couldn't put it down. Nothing is as it seems. I found some things unanswered and I found the ending a bit of a disappointment. But I couldn't put this book down once I started.
Rating: Summary: Good book with an unexpecting turn Review: Keeps you waiting for something to happen to confirm Terry's suspicion. Then when you think the story is finally going to reveal and confirm Terry's suspicions the story takes a turn that isn't expected. Good book but just not one of the best I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: Whispers and Lies Review: I have read all of Joy Fielding's other books and have enjoyed them immensely, which is why I could not wait to read this book. I found it to be very disappointing, unsettling and, quite frankly, ridiculous at times. Looking back, I realize that a lot of it didn't even make sense. I would not recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Nurse Who Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest... Review: All throughout this book, I continually asked myself, "What in the world is this woman thinking?". At the end it is apparent that this woman has lost all of her faculties about reality! It was a very quick read and I almost feel as though their should be a sequel! Whispers and Lies was definitely worth waiting for,and I look forward to Joy Fielding's next work of art!
Rating: Summary: Suspense to the End! Review: I've read Joy Fielding's other books, but found "Whispers and Lies" very suspenseful. There are more twists in this book than a roller coaster and unlike other authors who have predictable plots this story will have you guessing to the last page. The only drawback is you'll find it hard to put down and you may be jumping at sounds for the next few days!
Rating: Summary: MOVE OVER, SHIRLEY JACKSON! Review: This is the first book by Joy Fielding I have read. I discovered Fielding at my local library recently, and the text on the book jacket very much appealed to me so I checked the book out. I hadn't read three pages when I became completely swept up in this tale of a middle-aged woman, who instantly earned my utmost compassion. I had no notion of the shock and horror that awaited me towards the end of the book. This exceptional plot, exceptionally well written, is a must-read!
