Rating: Summary: Very good! Review: This is the first book I have read by Barbara Delinsky but it definitly will not be the last. The story follows the lives of a family brought together by a tragic accident. Rachel is left in a coma. Her ex-husband (Jack) must come care for their two daughters. As the days pass Jack learns a lot about Rachel and why their marriage failed. He realizes how much he has missed his family. He must then wrestle with the fact that Rachel may never wake up and if she does that she may not want him back. This book touches on some very real issues and does a good job of conveying the emotions of the characters. It is slow in some places but does move along (especially considering one of the main characters is in a coma). I hope Barabara Deliniski's other novels are as good as this one!
Rating: Summary: Introspective love affair Review: This is a story about a divorced couple in Northern Califorina. The woman suffers from a coma from car accident and her former husband has to come back to take care of his daghters and the former wife. The plot moves slowly as Jack reviews his relationships and his priorities. A typical Californian dilemma, indeed.
Rating: Summary: Another winner from Ms. Delinsky Review: Barbara Delinsky is one of the most skilled authors of that genre known as "women's fiction." COAST ROAD again displays why she has earned her stellar reputation. This is a beautiful book, beautifully conceived, beautifully written in typical Delinsky fashion. The characters are well-fleshed and the story is gripping and fast-paced. The book, ultimately, is touching as well. For fans of Ms. Delinsky, COAST ROAD is a must-read. And for readers who have not yet sampled this author's work, COAST ROAD would be a fine place to start.
Rating: Summary: The re-acquainting of a separated family Review: Wonderful story that will keep you turning pages, wondering if and when Rachel will "wake up" from her coma or wondering what teenage antics Samantha is working on next. And there's Rachel's best friend who is having a hard time with her mental healing after she's physically healed following breast cancer. This book has so much to offer any reader. The whole story is basically about a father/husband who gets back in touch with his emotional life instead of his cold corporate life. "Coast Road" will make you realize what is honestly important in life-- the people you love--the nature around you--"fog feet" shared with your child-- and so so much more. Wonderful book that will make your mind travel your "remember-whens". It's amazing that Barbara Delinsky can come up with SO MANY different and great stories. You will definitely enjoy this one.
Rating: Summary: A Great No Nonsense Book Review: This is one of Delinsky's best. A wonderful bunch of characters. No silly hero/heroine but real, true people...including the children. This story is all about growing up and taking second chances and it is truly a lovely read!
Rating: Summary: NOT ONE OF HER BETTER BOOKS Review: This book was only OK to me. I wouldn't tell someone "You have to read this book". I thought it moved slow - I was constantly saying lets get on with it!! I have read other books by Barbara Delinsky and have enjoyed them - especially More Than Friends. But somehow this book didn't move me like that one did. I bought it based upon the great reviews, but was a bit disappointed. I got awfully tired of Jack rubbing lotion on his ex-wife. But it won't stop me from reading the other books of hers.
Rating: Summary: Truly touching work Review: I recommend this book for anyone who needs a good easy book to read on a rainy afternoon. It makes you evaluate what "marriage" is all about, makes you realize that when something is right - - - against all odds, it will be fulfilled. This book also makes you realize how little we see and feel during our everyday lives, and how it takes a true tragedy sometimes, for us to know and appreciate those around us. A truly touching book, indeed.
Rating: Summary: Another great one! Review: This is the 2nd book that I've read written by Ms. Delinsky, and once again I loved her writing! The first book was Three Wishes, and that too was a great story. I love how her writing manages to whisk me away from the world I know and take me to another place with a great story line, plot, and happy ending. Wanna feel good when you finish a book? Try this one...check it out. Ahhhh, which of her books should I read next!
Rating: Summary: Captivating writing Review: I was fascinated by the way the author, Barbara Delinsky, captivated me. She managed to write the feelings of Jack McGill in a way I thought only another man could understand. She took layer after layer of the outer self from each identity in the book, revealing the inner being in each. This was even true of Rachael, who was in a coma for 90% of the narrative, to Rachael's friends, and to Jack. It was interesting, and fun, getting to know the individuals, molding my impression of each. It took some real talented writing to make me like Jack from the get-go, while leaving Rachael to be respected first, and liked only after more than half of the book was gone. This was the first book of Barbara Delinsky's that I read... and her writing style has captured me, making me look for other books by her. I almost immediately found "Lake News" and found it to be just as "readable and enjoyable." It is always a pleasure to find new authors to search for and enjoy. I believe I will read many more "Delinsky's!"
Rating: Summary: Where the road takes you... Review: Coast Road is one of Barbara Delinsky's best, although it took me some time to realize it. I read the back cover many times before I decided to read it, based solely on the fact one of the two main characters was in a coma for much of the story. I was never a fan of flashbacks, but Coast Road is a unique book. Divorced for 6 years, Rachel Keats and Jack McGill followed different paths that ultimately would lead them to the same place...to a roller coaster ride of emotions that were solely Jack's. In the middle of the night, Jack is awakened by a phone call informing him that the mother of his two daughters is in a coma following a car accident. He rushes to be with his daughters, but as they struggle with the idea of life without Rachel, Jack realizes he still loves his former wife. The format of the story is filled with vivid memories--(I don't want to call them flashbacks)--and present day pains: the understanding that love is a fleeting thing that you must catch it while you can.
