Rating: Summary: You might even see yourself! Review: Bitter irony abounds in this poolside read, yet the entertaining antics of the characters are oftentimes true to life. You might even think the author is writing about people you know, or even yourself! The author has concocted a devilish take on human nature that makes you wonder--if a faux dog person prides themselves on getting a dog that acts like a cat, why not simply get a cat in the first place?? You'll have to read it to know what I mean. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: As The Drama Turns. Review: Gina, Cheryl, and Linda are ladies of the new millenium with old world problems. Gina hates her job and is looking for Mr. Right, yet the men that approach her see her as Miss Right Now. Cheryl is having sex with Mr. Right Now, while combing the personals and the internet for her Mr. Right. Linda is a lonely lesbian looking for her Miss Right, and meets her...and her infant child. Not in the plan, Stan, but what's she to do when her heart in already involved, along with her girlfriend's husband? Add the mysterious Mr. G, who got more on his plate with Gina and Cheryl than an I-HOP special, and you have a novel that will make you laugh and care. As an extra treat, Gina's mother will have you shaking your head with giggles and disbelief, as she becomes the one character who stands out as someone who deserves a book of her own. Good work, Mr. Sanchez!
Rating: Summary: Surprise, surprise,sur-prised Review: Girlfriends certainly caught me off guard. Remember the old saying don't judge a book by it's cover. Well it's true, I was so certain this was a story of three African American sistahs with plenty of drama going on. Especially being a big fan of African American books. Our bookclub voted to change the scheduled book for this one. Were we ever surprised. Gina, Cheryl , Linda, Peter , and Shirley gave us an insight of there lives and they were something else.Characters we will remember for awhile. This was such a humorous story at times .I was in stitches from laughing so hard.. I will admit a book I probably would not have read had it not been for the cover. It was not a fast read ,but one I enjoyed reading. What a pleasant surprise. Surprise , surprise , surprised. You got me Mr.Sanchez !
Rating: Summary: Story of my life Review: Great Book! Hilarious and very well defined characters. Sometimes you feel like you know them, sometimes you wonder if the author has been following you around taking notes. The most off the wall things happen to these girls and boy can I realte. There is Gina, bossy, opinionated and man hungry. Her mother Shirley is a complete riot and totally irresponsible. Gina is the parent in that relationship. There is Linda the very subdued lady just looking for Ms. Right. Peter the hypochondriac. And last but not least, Cheryl the African American fighting the race war and trying to find her place in the world. Don't for get the overweight, bald, old guy who stars in his own pornos. A laugh a minute.

Rating: Summary: Hollywood romanticized dating image hilariously deflated! Review: Hurrah for our hero, author Patrick Sanchez, who single handedly popped the Hollywood romanticized dating image with his witty, acerbic quill! How many of us are tired of seeing sappy love stories where everyone meets the perfect "Mr. or Ms. Right?" Finally, a book comes along that really tells the unsightly, yet hysterically funny, truth. We've all been through dating fiascos just like many of the characters in "Girlfriends". That's the beauty of this book! It allows you to laugh at their dating escapades as well as your own stories. What better way to heal from your "wounds" and get back out into the dating jungle than with laughter! Girlfriends" provides that much needed medicine in extra strength doses! I highly recommend reading "Girlfriends"!
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ!! LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY!!! Review: I CHOSE THIS BOOK OFF THE SHELF WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE COVER WAS FUN. I READ THE BACK COVER AND DECIDED TO TRY IT. WOW, AM I GLAD I DID!! I LAUGHED OUT LOUD THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE BOOK. MY CHILDREN WANTED TO KNOW WHAT WAS SO FUNNY! IT IS BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK (AND JEMIMA J, BY JANE GREEN) THAT STARTED ME ON A READING RAMPAGE. WHILE READING THIS BOOK, I FELT LIKE I WAS A PART OF THE CHARACTERS' LIVES. IT FELT LIKE I WAS IN THE LIVING ROOM WITH THEM. EACH ONE A CHARACTER IN THEIR OWN RIGHT. FROM FRIENDSHIP TO LOVERS (SOMETIMES BOTH IN ONE), TO MOTHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP (MOST OFTEN THE DAUGHTER TAKING THE MOTHER ROLE), TO BOSSES......PATRICK SANCHEZ WAS BRILLIANT WITH THIS BOOK. I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING OUT LOUD NOW, AFTER FINISHING THE BOOK, JUST THINKING ABOUT THE SCENE IN THE PARK WITH GINA, SHIRLEY, GOMEZ AND THE "ROLLER-BLADER". CHARACTERS KEPT COMING BACK FROM THE PAST (IT WAS HYSTERICAL AND QUITE INGENIUS HOW IT WAS PULLED TOGETHER). THE ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT I EXPERIENCED WAS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS MR. SANCHEZ' FIRST BOOK. I WROTE TO HIM AT HIS E-MAIL ADDRESS AND TOLD HIM SO. THANK GOODNESS HE IS IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS SECOND NOVEL. GOOD LUCK MR. SANCHEZ. WE ARE ANXIOUSLY AWAITING ANOTHER MASTERPIECE!! IF YOU HAVE TIME FOR ONLY ONE BOOK THIS MONTH, THIS IS THE ONE!!!
Rating: Summary: Not For Everyone! Review: I have several girlfriends who enjoy the same type of books that I like. So when they suggested Girlfriends by Patrick Sanchez, I figured it was a must read and due to all of their "glowing" comments I was excited about reading this one. Well, Girlfriends by Patrick Sanchez didn't quite live up to the hype for this reader. It was a comical and witty story about three 20-something friends looking for the perfect job, the perfect apartment and the perfect man or woman. The reader lived vicariously via Gina(the white girl), Cheryl(the black girl) and Linda(the lesbian member of the trio) as they each tried to find herself via their latest escapade. Some of the scenes were downright hilarious and the opening even drew me into the story. However, the more I read I wondered where was the plot development; I felt like I was reading a disjointed story from a male's perspective...a male who didn't really have a handle on the female psyche. Overall, if you want a few laughs and have a few moments to spare Girlfriend is a light and entertaining read for a day when you have nothing else to do or read. Actually its not a bad book, it just didn't live up to the hype.
Rating: Summary: Abundant Review: I just started reading this book and along with most everyone else - the cover is what caught my attention. I picked it up and read the back, and decided to try it out. I feel its an easy read book and not too hard to understand. But as I started the first few chapters, I was getting confused on who was who. I didn't realize they were going to introduce like 8 characters in the first few chapters. Now that I'm further into the book its making more sense, especially by giving me a few "reminders" who each character is. Overall, I probably would have gotten another book if I knew that, but I may pass this one on to friends to see their opinion.
