Rating: Summary: An interesting premise Review: What if who you thought you were your entire life wasn't who you really were? That is the question that Katie Lapp faces when she discovers a fancy baby dress in the attic of her parents' house. Katie has been raised Plain, with all of its rules. She faces a life altering decision with this discovery. THis book takes the reader through the first few weeks of Katie's discovery and then directly leads into the next book of the series. Believe me--I had tears rolling down my face by the end of the book. I heartily recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: This heroine is stupid and selfish Review: The heroine of this book is the most selfish, unsympathetic character I've read in a long time. She has this unabelievably stupid belief that when she learns something unexpected about her past, she's entitled to renege on every promise or vow she's made up until then. Her selfishness causes great pain to people around her, and she thinks she's entirely justified! I thought this book was just awful, and I honestly can't see why anybody else recommends it. The writing is amateurish at best and the storyline is silly. Ugh! Spend your money elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: I loved this Book Review: THis was an awsome book about Katie Lapp, a amish girl whose world comes crubbling down around her. THis was my favorite book of the series. I can't wait to read some more of Ms Lewis's books, now that I've finished the Lanchester series.
Rating: Summary: For those who love mystery and intrigue Review: I found this book, as a person facinated with the Amish, to be very true to what I was taught by a mennonite teacher in college. It had the intrigue of the story line interwoven with the history and culture of the Old Order Amish. I really enjoyed this and the other 2 in the series.
Rating: Summary: What a great story! Review: This is the second book that i have read by Beverly Lewis.I have read both The Shunning, and The Reconinng, they are both great books and i am going to read The Confession next.I hope it is good like the other two were. They helped me learn about the amish, who i knew nothing about, and they are even Christian Fiction. They are great books and i want to recommend them to anyone who wants to read Christian Fiction.
Rating: Summary: Intro to Amish way of life! Review: I remember as a little girl, visiting my grandparents in western Pennsylvania. I remember seeing the horse drawn buggies and the people dressed in dark clothing. I'd forgotten much about them until I came along this book (actually the entire Lancaster Series). It was an introduction into the world of the Amish. This book made me begin to read more about their way of life. It was a wonderful novel that provide insite into a world that very few of us ever know about.
Rating: Summary: Could'nt put it down!!!! Review: The Shunning was a truly wonderful book! I purchased this book on my last day in Lancaster and felt like I was back there.I loved reading about the Amish! Katie Lapp felt something nagging in her before her wedding,I think even before she found that little dress. The Confession and Reckoning were also good, but not as good as the Shunning.
Rating: Summary: A fast read that kept my attention. I like this author ! Review: Like so many people, I've always been interested in the Amish people. While I'm certain The Reckoning is primarily fiction, I think it may have given me an over all feel of the Amish way of life. I enjoyed the characters. I also enjoyed the fact that it was, in spite of the story's controversial problems, a peaceful read. Sometimes that's just what I want. I wasn't disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Good fiction. Review: I read The Shunning, The Confession and The Reckoning rather quickly. These books by Beverly Lewis are strictly fiction. I am sure she researched everthing needed about the Amish and the Lancaster County area but the reader has to remember that these books are strictly fiction and for our reading enjoyment. As in all religious denominations there are many differences just as there are many different people that make up each individual church and community.
Rating: Summary: A terrific book! Review: I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to everyone. The life of the Amish is facinating and it just tugged at my heartstrings what this young woman had to go through as well as her family and friends. I am purchasing the sequels as well. Once you start reading it, you don't want to stop. I hope there will be continued series of these books in the future also.
