Summary: Non-Stop and Insightful Reading
Review: I loved this book. It takes you through the best and the worst in a relationship. There is nothing better than reading something truthful about relationships, and being able to relate to the characters themselves. This book makes you realize that there is more to a relationship than bright skies and smooth sailing! Picture yourself going through the trials and tribulations of a trying relationship, pleasing your mate and his/her family, building your own foundation while trying to help build someone else's, feeling like you are ready to give up on your partner and all of a sudden...... Just be sure to read this book!!!

Summary: I was up all night - I couldn't put it down
Review: I think it was McMillan' best work. Bettter than "Waiting ot Exahle" or "Stella" or even "Mama". My heart went out to Zora and I even had some compassion for Franklin - brotherman just could not get it together. I would've written the ending differently (no doubt because I'm a sucker for love triumphing over all the odds and all that sap). I started in the afternoon and read into the next morning. It was a great read

Summary: the best book i've ever read
Review: this was the first book i read by terry mcmillan. i had never heard of the lady. this book is so true to life how can anyone not love it. all women can relate to the main character. and men will identify with franklin-- especially those of color. just the best book ever. in my humble opinion, even better than "waiting". a must read!

Summary: A Good Read- 3 1/2 stars really
Review: I enjoyed the book, and I found the characters incredibly believable. I didn't like it as well as "Waiting to Exhale", but it was good. I thought it was a little slow-moving at first, but Terry knows how to make little scenes interesting and draws you in. But I was disappointed with the ending. I don't think that Zora should have taken Franklin back. I know she loved him and all, but to me, throughout the whole book, Zora and Franklin didn't match well together.

In the beginning of the book, they were portrayed more as soulmates. Sure they had their differences, but they seemed like they could overcome them. But during the course of this book, it was clear that most of the chemistry they had seemed to be in the bedroom. Franklin cheated on Zora, raped her and assulted her. She should have put him in jail. He was obviously out of his mind. Zora was a strong woman before Franklin and seemed to have weakened with him. She accepted so much bull from him, including him being an alcoholic. Franklin was lazy, a drunk and just no-good. He needed psychiatric help. Zora should have just let him go. To love, sometimes you have to let go. I'm sure she would have found somebody else who wasn't such a baby and wasn't jealous of his own son.

Summary: read the book before you watch the HBO movie!!
Review: this book was good. i didn't like her character too much b/c she stuck with a guy who had absolutely nothing going for hisself (no education or money), who had kids he couldn't take care of and who beat her while she was pregnant (with HIS child). she should've been strong enough not to get involved with his tired ass. or dumped him when he came out and told her the truth. but besides the character, the book was consistent and a good read. however, the movie is TERRIBLE. it didn't show the valuable points the book had. it was horrible! please read the book before you watch the movie.

Summary: Didn't Care For It
Review: Zora is a teacher with a good job and great apartment, unfortunately she messes everything up for herself by taking Franklin as her live-in boyfriend. He is a loser who lies to her, can't keep a job, is married, and blames everyone else for his problems. He takes his anger out on Zora and basically turns her well-ordered life into hell. It's as though she thinks she doesn't deserve any better. This is a depressing novel throughout (although lots of housecleaning takes place), and I can't find anything to recommend it, except perhaps some woman will read it and learn from Zora's mistakes.

Summary: The Master Of This Genre!
Review: There are a lot of "Terry McMillan wannabees" out there but she is the ORIGINAL and she's the MASTER of this type of story. Zoe and Franklin, a couple with their own struggles and their many ups and downs, literally jump off of the pages, thanks to the brilliant and totally realistic characters that Terry McMillan creates. Although I liked her other books as well as this one, Disappearing Acts is her best work, as far as I'm concerned.

Summary: Disappearing Acts
Review: What can I say? I'm an avid reader of Terry Mc Millan's books. This book is on-point dealing with the issues that crop up in relationships.

This is a "Must-Read"!
