Summary: I'd give it ZERO stars if I could
Review: This is a cheap, badly-written book. It has all the depth of a comic book, the writing is just as simplistic and the plot is oh-so-run of the mill. I give it a zero for writing, zero for creativity, zero for dialogue, zero for plot. Enough said. Yawn.

Summary: I don't recommend this book
Review: With so many similar kinds of books available, you shouldn't waste your time on this one. It's cheap, ridiculous and amateurishly written. Even worse, it's not funny or entertaining. Seems to me with an idea like that (a woman looking for a date to take to a wedding), that Melissa Senate could have done a lot better. Is this were a movie review: TWO THUMBS DOWN.

Summary: Disappointing and dreadful
Review: The premise of the book is interesting. But the story fails to live up to expectations. It is very badly written. It is boring. And it is definitely NOT WORTH IT. I agree with the last few reviews...don't waste your hard-earned bucks on this one.

Summary: Wonderful Book!
Review: I loved this book. It's kind of like Bridget Jones, but more touching. I related to a lot of what the main character goes through and enjoyed Senate's writing style. It's an easy read, and made me both laugh and cry. I highly recommend it!

Summary: Totally predictable
Review: The book was a disappointment. The story was predictable, the situations which were designed to provide laughter/humor were forced and trite, and frankly, after the first several chapters or so, I was ready to give up on the book altogether (eerily similar to certain scenes/characters in Bridget Jones' Diary and The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing). It has its funny moments, but don't waste your money, go read the two books mentioned above, or "Me Times Three" / "Confessions of a Shopaholic" instead if you're into this genre.

Summary: Boring, awful, not even remotely entertaining
Review: I don't want to be rude or anything, but "See Jane Date" is really pretty junky and evocative of a pathetic kind of attitude. I'm 32 (MWF), lived in New York for a few years and know what kind of women the "writer" is talking about: they tend to be moderately educated, have [bad] low-paying jobs, live in crummy walkup apartments (until they can sucker some man into a better arrangement - hurry! do it before you're 40!) and cling to an ever decreasing hope that a prince will one day come to their rescue. Or they depend on their parents, seeing them as an entitlement who can provide for them in a way in which they are incapable of providing for themselves. They tend to be somewhat self-delusional about their lot in life - neither realizing nor acknowledging that for some folks, hey, it's just not meant to be! That's what this book is all about. If you need this kind of downer, need to feel bad about yourself - go ahead and read this bit of trash!

Summary: Fun, Fast, Read
Review: "See Jane Date" was a quick, fun read, definetly the equivalent to a good "Chick Flick". I devoured the book in a few days time, reading when I should have been writing my AP English papers:)

Jane, the main character, is easily likeable. She's in her late twenties, alone, and an editor that desparetly needs promoting. Her dinky apartment is adorned with a plastic table from her college dorm days for goodness sake! Jane is scheduled to attend her cousin Dana's wedding in a few months time, and she has no date to go with. To make matters worse, Jane is working on a memoir project for Natasha Nutley, a popular high school student turned actress that Jane had always envied. Suddenly Jane finds herself lying to Natasha, AKA the Gnat, and saying she has a fabulous boyfriend. So, Jane must go on a dating rampage, to find her perfect "boyfriend" to attend the wedding.

The book is predictable, but as I said, it is equivalent to your average chick flick, which are usually predictable. I still loved the book, and hope that the author, Melissa Senate, will come out with another novel soon.

If you enjoy "Singleton" novels, check this one out!

Summary: Interesting if she actually dated
Review: This book should have been called "See Jane try to get a life, exagerate her life and find true love at the end".

Don't get me wrong, I like "See Jane Date", it just is interesting that Senate spent a lot of time deconstructing Jane's life than actually allowing her to have one.

"See Jane Date" is your formulaic chick-lit book. You will find no suprises and no real guesses work to what is going to happen. The reason I am giving this four stars is because Senate, like Jennifer Weiner, seems to have a firm grasp of writing a coherent sentance, just too bad she couldn't come up with a more original plot.

Senate is a decent writer, and this books is a nice fun read, it just is not original nor does the main character really striker a chord within you. The publisher, Red Dress Ink, has put up a few chapters of her next book on their website and that should be interesting on how it turns out.

Summary: Cheap knock off!
Review: I found this book to be the most predictable book I have EVER read. I would be ashamed to have a book that so cheaply mirrors Bridget Jones. I think that it's an insult to everyone's intelligence. Try Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic books, if you like this genre.

Summary: See Jane Date
Review: You don't have to live in New York to relate to this book. There is a Jane in all of us. This book will make you cry & cry. After reading this book you will be very satisfied.
