Rating: Summary: Been Looking for Something Great to Read - And This Is It Review: There has been a lack of great new novels out there the past few months - I haven searching and searching. I have read everything from the US and have cleaned out the UK. I was stuck for something new and interesting. Then I was given a copy of "See Jane Date" by Melissa Senate. I LOVED it.... Really well done. I think Senate is a new found talent and I look forward to many new things from her. I loved the internal workings of Jane's life and was really pulled into her world. She's much like myself and I found so much to relate too. I have given this book to tons of my friends - they love it as much as I do!! Highly Recommended!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: I didn't expect to love this book. Frankly, I only bought it because I was curious. I ended by enjoying it thoroughly. It was warm, funny, clever, and very well written. I hope Melissa Senate writes more books; she's definitely a talent to watch.
Rating: Summary: Good...but not as good as "Milkrun" Review: Jane Gregg is a single woman in NYC. Her mission: To find a date to her cousin's wedding in 2 months. Her obstacle: Is there a half way decent guy in this city?! In desperate need of a man, Jane goes on several 'blind dates' which in themselves, are funny. Also, she must edit the autobiography of an former highschool classmate, whom she never liked. Though "See Jane Date" is funny at times, I found it to be very predictable, especially towards what happens at the very end. A good light book for every women who has ever been single! Also try "Milkrun" by Sarah Mlynowsii.
Rating: Summary: Insiders look into "Dating for Dummies" Review: See Jane Date is not only a novel about dating and the disasters that can entail, but a story of another twenty-something year old overcoming her self-inflicted inadequacies left from the cruel years of being a teenager in high school. Jane Gregg is an "assistant" editor at Posh Publishing, who has recently been assigned to work on the memoirs of Natasha "Gnatasha" Nutley, with whom she attended high school. Natasha was the girl in high school everyone aspired to be-beautiful, popular, adored by all of the boys-and working with her again brings back Jane's insecurities left from high school. After making up a boyfriend who "lives in a brownstone on the Upper West," Jane relies on her friends-Eloise, her closest friend, neighbor and coworker, and Amanda, who is her blind-date dating resource-to help on her search to find the perfect boyfriend. Because going on a blind date wouldn't make for a fun story for her weekly Flirt Night Round Table adventures unless it turned out to be a disaster, Jane tries her luck at several different match-ups, including Andrew, the cheep "Family man" and Timothy, the cheating doctor. On top of dealing with the Gnat's sultry manuscript on her affair with the mysterious "Actor," Jane is dealing with quitting her addiction to cigarettes, being a bridesmaid in her cousin Dana's wedding, searching for the perfect date for the above-mentioned wedding and trying to get a promotion at Posh, while overcoming the fact she can't look her fine-specimen-of-a-man boss Jeremy Black in the eye. See Jane Date is genuinely honest and sincere and unexpectedly evokes emotions of sympathy for not only Jane, but also the other characters in her life. It's a story about looking past the surface in people and really finding out what you're made of. The twist ending of the novel completes the heartfelt story and I suggest it to all women endlessly looking for "the one."
Rating: Summary: A definite read for Single Women! Review: Well, its hard to review a book without blowing the ending for potential readers...so that being said, just go out and read this book! This book was one of those that was hard to put down once I started reading it...thank goodness I didn't have to put it down much...and in chapter 16 I even started crying because of what was happening to Jane Gregg during her Half-Day-of-Beauty! So like the subject says, single women should read this book, or at least buy it for a guy-crazy friend. This book makes you feel like there is someone out there for you...and they will come to you, you don't have to go looking for them!
Rating: Summary: Not a pulitzer but entertaining Review: I really enjoyed this book... I would not disagree with the other reviewer that it is a little predictable.. I liked how the characters seemed as neurotic as my friends and I can be sometimes.. I found the book pretty realistic... and fair to the challenges we face in late 20's career, love, family, bridesmaids dresses etc... The main character deals with all these things and some demons left from high school... If you are a fan of Sex and The City or have loved Bridget Jones' Diary, then this book would be right up your alley. If you are looking for a quick read about life in your late 20's as a single "career girl", pick it up. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: A quick, light read! Review: I must be honest, I read the reviews on amazon before buying the book and as you can see it is a mixed reaction. I will defend the naysayers and agree that yes, it is a Bridget Jones' knockoff and it is a bit predictable, however that does not mean that I did not enjoy it. I was looking for a light read, one in which I did not need to think about. I read it in less than a week (mainly before bed) & I found it interesting enough to finish, yet not intriguing enough to not put down. I recommend it if you are looking for a something light to read.
Rating: Summary: Jane is alot of women out there. Review: Jane seem to be a cross between Bridget Jones and alot of the other female's in british chick lit. Jane is almost 30 and still has found her Mr. Right, and has to face the fact that almost everyone around her is either A) married B) engaged C) or not intersted in dating. Jane reminds me of alot of females I know always on the look out for that perfect man to make everyone else look at her. She starts out with her blind dates. Which I thought were very funny in the way she handled them. I love Jane and her friends and her thought about work and the people she worked with and had to do work with. Overall the book was wonderful and great book for a first time writer. I hope to see more books just like this.
Rating: Summary: A cute New York chick story... Review: Following the attacks of September 11, it was refreshing to pick up a fun read set in the very heart of New York City. Melissa Senate's first novel, *See Jane Date*, promises fans of *Confessions of a Shopaholic* and *Bridget Jones Diary* that they need not fear a withdrawal from the world of singleton literature. If you're in need of a hilarious romance, run to your bookstore! Jane, single and miserable in her publishing career, has to edit the memoir of a high school enemy, Natasha, and find a perfect date for her cousin Dana's wedding. Unfortunately, her luck with dating leaves much to be desired, and she can barely sit in the same room with Natasha without wanting to run screaming for the nearest cigarette. Inevitably, she sets out on a dating journey sure to scare even the likes of Dr. Ruth, hoping to find Mr. Right before she turns into a pumpkin at Dana's wedding. The dating adventure may not lead to true love for Jane, but it does give her the opportunity to find herself and realize some seriously unhealthy habits. Once again, this is a perfect quick read for those looking for a winter break. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Let's Try This Again Review: (...) SEE JANE DATE is a horrible book. Recycled plot, bad writing, predictable ending, the works. As another reviewer put it: "Save your money for something better."
