Summary: I feel like I am there
Review: Enjoyed this book, although Coast Road is still my favorite. Parts of Lake News seemed repetitive without seeming to be purposeful or productive. I wanted to keep reading in order to know more about John and Lily.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Literature at its best!
Review: You MUST read this novel. Its a classic. Its sure to provoke much thought and discussion. This novel is as sophisticated as any of the shelves. Its just a travesty that its not #1 on the New York Times.

Summary: Very Surprising! I am now a convert!
Review: I normally read heavy fiction, such as paleo-Indian stories by the Gears, or hard core sci-fi. I needed a book for an upcoming surgery and I chose Lake News only because it was one of the few books that did not appear to be one of those menial, trashy, poorly written, poorly plotted, highly predictable, Fabio covered romance rags. Hehehe.

Well! I was so engrossed in the amazing depth of the characters, the scenery, the sociology, and the politics, I hadn't even realized until the end it was a romance novel! I LOVED it! I have been bumming that it is over. I regretted coming back to reality. If there are any towns like this New England town, I envy those fortunate enough to be there. Just ordered 8 more of Delinskys' books! Awesome writting. Convincing, intriguing and warm. BUY IT!

Summary: Timely and a Good Read
Review: LAKE NEWS is one of those rare books that is able to engage you in the story on a few different levels at once. On one level, I was interested in Lily, in Lily and her family, in Lily and John, in John, and in John and his family. On another level, the story brought to light the media's dark side, and the issue of privacy, or rather, the lack thereof these days. And Delinsky's descriptions of Lake Henry, on another level, brought the New Hampshire area into my living room each night as I read. A story whose setting, characters, and plot all work together and keep me involved is one I will read again and again.

Summary: Delinsky's most boring book
Review: I love most of Barbara Delinsky's later books (not the old romances). But this one put me to sleep. Found it impossible to care about the characters. No depth.

Summary: If Only It Were True
Review: It seems to me that the most important message of this book is its unrealistic ending. This is the story of a woman who is not guilty of the misbehavior the press insists on accusing her of. In the end she is vindicated and the guilty reporter departs in disgrace while the rest of the press exonerates itself from complicity.

When the press latches on to a victim, whether or not he/she is rightly accused, the victim's life is often ruined: loss of reputation, loss of friends, loss of job, loss of dignity. Retractions are seldom made, and in the rare case where they are made, it is (as the author indicates) usually in small print on an inside or a back page.

Thus the ending of this novel leaves one with the impression that the 'bad guys' within the press corps are extremely few and far between, whereas the reality seems to me to be that they make up a very sizeable portion of reporters. Anything for a headline!

We need the press; but we also need a means to compel it to act responsibly and to give equal space to retractions of stories that have been demonstrated to lack solid foundation.

Summary: It's still okay ......
Review: This is not a book as good as her past works. Her past works like Three Wishes and A Woman Betrayed actually lets you noe and understand what the character is feeling but Lake News lack the depth and feelings of the chracters and after you finish the book, you would not be able to understand why John loves Lily because there is totally no connections.

Summary: One of the best
Review: One of Barbara's best! I am from a small town in Maine and I felt like I was at home, Loons and all. Myrna Caresia, Norfolk VA.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Dumb choice by main character causes havoc...
Review: Irritating and naive was my reaction to the main character's choice to speak to a reporter about her "friendship" with a cardinal-to-be. The reporter's slanderous article ends up destroying her life. The main character is meek and mild, which bugged me. Her supportive sister was more interesting than she was. The hero was a nice guy but no fireworks or sexual tension in the writing. Coast Road and Three Wishes were much better reads for me.

Summary: What a great surprise!
Review: I usually don't enjoy romance-type books, but I really enjoyed this one. Normally I read heavier fiction . Maybe it's the time of year (fall, the same as the book) or the topic (the media out of control) that kept me interested. I would recommend highly.
