Rating: Summary: Much more than you think it will be Review: Sometimes a writer believes in her story so completely that she creates something beyond the limits of her talent. That is Rosamunde Pilcher's achievement in "The Shell Seekers." Ms. Pilcher generally writes nice stories for women, but here she exposes a touchstone that obviously means a great deal to her, and her sincerity and conviction come through on every page. This beautiful story of love beyond and across time, of one life lived with courage and self-awareness, will move and inspire you. I return to this book when I feel overwhelmed and depressed because it cheers me and reminds me what is really important. The writers of "serious" fiction believe the world is a sad, dreary, complex place. This book reminds you that the world always has been, and always will be, a wonderful place where small pleasures bring great happiness, where love warms and sustains even the most weary heart, and where each day might bring a wonderful revelation. Yes, sometimes the book is amusingly English, especially with its taken-for-granted system of two classes: those who clean house, and those who employ housecleaners. But overwhelmingly, this book is a treature, and I envy those of you who will discover it for the first time. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Rating: Summary: This books changes lives Review: When I started this book, I had no expectations on it. But reading the first 15 pages, I realised that I just couldn't quit reading it. i find in Penelope, Antonia and Danus the figure of eternal love and hapiness. Everyone should read this book!!
Rating: Summary: Makes you realize you have to stop and smell the roses Review: I have read this book three times and each time I get something else out of it. I have shared it with many friends and they all thank me.
Rating: Summary: This was one of the most touching books I've ever read. Review: When my friends Cathy and Teresa suggested this book, I wasn't sure what to think. I'd never read anything by this author before. But I soon found that I couldn't put the book down. The reflection on Penelope's life was beautiful. She was a woman of grace even during the worst times. When she died, I honestly felt that I had lost a good friend. I found the book to be exciting and calming at the same time. Most importantly, it confirms what I've felt all along; age is just a frame of mind.
Rating: Summary: The Shell Seekers was an unforgetable experience! Review: I loved the book and felt that I had come to know and love Penelope Keeling. When I finished it, I was very sad to think we would no longer be together. The author made Penelope seem so real and so beleivable that I actually walked around the house expecting Penelope to come for tea!
Rating: Summary: I am overwhelmed by the emotions of this book! Review: I had, up until now, only read the author's short books. The Shell Seekers has really grabbed me. At first, I had trouble getting started, but once I got into it I could not put it down. I have a tendency, after reading a book that appeals to me as this one did, to walk around for days thinking about the characters. Some are hard to let go of. I really love this story and all the elements of it. It makes me think of my own mother, as well as my two young daughters, in a new light. Thank you, Ms. Pilcher, for this wonderful gift.
Rating: Summary: This book kept me turning pages, just could not put it down. Review: The Shell Seekers was a real page turner for me. I read the whole book in two sittings. Penelope was one of the richest characaters I think I have ever read about. She makes a person want to be her friend. And the love in the book is wonderful but also very sad. A wonderful book the best I have read in a long while
Rating: Summary: A great escape from every day life Review: I read Rosamunde Pilcher to escape and every one of her books takes you away. I love her ability to give you all the little details about the settings and people without bogging you down with minutia. A delightful, relaxing read.
Rating: Summary: Emotionally wrenching if occasionally uneven Review: The Shell Seekers is one of those impossibly romantic tearjerkers that one can't put down. It's a wonderful read, even though Pilcher has a tendancy to go down unneccessary paths and wander aimlessly. That said, I'll admit I cried hysterically at the end, one of the few books to actually make me sob.
Rating: Summary: hartwarming wonderful Review: Rosamunde Pilcher opened my eye to books, its like you live in her stories. Have a bad day? pick up the Shell Seekers, it will make all your trubles go away. Someday I will go to Cornwall so I can realy see were it all happends.
