Rating: Summary: Very Good, but left me with questions Review: I do believe that this is one of the best books I have read. But I may look too deeply into things, but there were parts when I had to ask myself... where was Kevin? I mean, Teresa just jumps on a plane, and heads to South Carolina, often without second mention of Kevin. There were times, however when the placement of Kevin was mentioned, and that was good. Over all, the book was great. I would recommed this book to anyone, expecially a hopless romantic, like myself! I red this book practically in one sitting!
Rating: Summary: Surprise and sad ending Review: For those of you who have seen the movie, you already know the ending, but I was one who hadn't seen the movie prior to reading this book. At first the book took me a while to read (whereas "The Notebook" only took me 2 days). But as soon as I got towards the end of the book ... WOW!!! Talk about romantic in such a sad way! This is a must read!
Rating: Summary: Hang In There, The end will blow you away!!! Review: I have read many of Sparks novels. When I started reading "Message in a Bottle", I thought I would go to sleep. I have to admit that I struggled with this story just about 3/4 of the way through. Then Bang! The last three chapters were awesome. The true feelings of Garrett and Theresa finally came out. Once this took place, this novel is a tear jerker. The last three chapters are long, but I simply could not put this book down until I finished it. I never shed a tear until the end and buddy let me tell ya, it took me by surprise. The ending liked to have killed me. I would have never thought it would have ended the way it did. Hats off to Sparks once again! He keeps you at a low level in this novel and then when your ready to almost completely guess the outcome, he takes you on a rollercoaster ride from the wild. I had many friends who said, "keep reading the story, it will pick up", I had no idea that "Message in a Bottle" would be one of my most favorites by Sparks. If it as slow for you as it was for me, hang in there. It starts out as a typical love story, you think you know the out come, keep reading, your heart will get an emotional twist that you would have never expected. Last three chapters pack a wallop, have your tissues ready! Thanks Sparks for another incredible story!!
Rating: Summary: We never get happy endings!! Review: Lately I have been reading so many books and the endings are all the same, bad. I loved this book, it had a great main idea and it was very romantic. The way the woman found out where the man lived and she took a chance on meeting him. It was pretty much a typical love story with a twist. The whole message in a bottle thing put just the right amount of mystery into it. Sparks did an excellent job on writing this book and I liked his style of writing too. He went back and forth between the two main characters and expressed what they were feeling at each and every moment. I didn't particularly like the ending. I totally thought it was going to end different than what it did. There was not really any closure at the end between the characters. It was like they were apart for about a week and then he was gone, never to return. Sparks makes you think it is going to end a certain way but totally changes direction. I would recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Message in a bottle fails to reach land Review: Hi, My partner and I listened to the audio cassette of this book on a long trip. While I was bemused by some of the writing my partner kept getting angry with the scenarios. "He wouldn't do that!" or "She shouldn't have done that!" I personally found that some of the interactions were quite genuine and found myself agreeing that yes, if a person was meeting a person in this sort of circumstance, then it made sense to not reveal certain things. This story is, after all, the story of two people previously scarred by relationships. What really bothered me the most about the book was the inaccurate depictions of diving and of sailing. There was altogether too much gloss-over. Nothing like giving a person an interesting occupation and then not delivering. What do people who dive do in North Carolina? When Theresa and her son were certified, did they do a dive? What did they see? As for sailing...I hope I'm not giving too much away, but when an experienced sailor is single handed in a boat in rough waters, the first thing they do is put on a life jacket and a life line. They also must have a radio (for a boat of that size) and...well, I could go on. I think the author was derelict in not having the facts and plausibility of details checked in some way. My partner, by the way, is still angry with the story.
Rating: Summary: I'm paralyzed with thoughts of this story Review: I haven't read an honest-to-goodness novel in a long time - I mostly read nonfiction. I picked this up on a whim, and after idly flicking through it couldn't put it down. And so began my own journey into the story. I was up until almost dawn clutching this book and sobbing. It was a good kind of cry though - anyone who has ever loved deeply fears of losing that love and how they could ever possibly go on. It's strange, but the most painful parts let you somehow reach the deepest part of your psyche. I want to say that it's comforting, but it's not - but it does carry some hope. If that makes any sense. (I don't want to give anything away.) There are sometimes when I felt like the book moved quickly and simply (more in the beginning), but it was still like crack. Pure and addictive!
Rating: Summary: Best Ever Review: I'm not a romantic and i'm not sentimental and i gotta tell you this book made me cry its full of passions and love this is the best book i have ever read in my life i read it in 2 days cause i couldn't put it down
Rating: Summary: very awesome Review: i just spend the entire day reading this book. i think nicholas sparks did a GREAT job writing this book. everything in it makes me want to live theresa's life. kind of leaves you in awe..
Rating: Summary: The movie did not do this book justice Review: This was a very wonderful book. It brought romance and tragedy to your life. I felt like I was a part of Theresa and look forward to reading more books by Nicholas Sparks
Rating: Summary: Only for those who want to be manipulated... Review: This was so dreary and pointless. There is very little originality here; I kept thinking that Mr. Sparks "borrowed" from countless other stories. The part where she is looking for background on the "mysterious" author of these letters is right out of Sleepless in Seattle The suspense is non-existent. One reason I kept reading was to see if i had accurately read the heavy foreshadowing. A trademark of Sparks seems to be that he manipulates his readers (ala Tuesdays w/ Morrie"). I just didn't care about this soogy love story. Save your money and purchase a book with substance. I recommend Coming Home by R. Pilcher.
