Rating: Summary: It was like eating cotton-candy for breakfast. Review: This book was such a disappointment. I was hoping that it was something that I could really sink my teeth into. But when I took a bite, it dissolved into nothing but a sicky-sweet taste in my mouth! The plot was cliche-ridden and predictable. Theresa and Garrett didn't even seem like real people! I kept hoping Jeb would meet someone like him (meaning a real person) and we could forget about these two cardboard cutouts. For someone who values honesty in relationships, I was appalled that the author based this book on deceitfulness and shared victim-hood!
Rating: Summary: Total & Absolute Disappointment! Review: Loved The Notebook, and HATED this one. I couldn't even stand to finish it ... I just skimmed the last couple of chapters and didn't miss much, even the end was predictable. I think Mr. Sparks is a One Hit Wonder.
Rating: Summary: Crying on Mother's Day... Review: Although I have not read The Notebook, it was by shear chance that the library had a copy of Message in a Bottle in...I started it on May 9th and by Mother's Day, it was done. Here I am, this sappy teenager, crying at our dinner at a restaurant...but anyway, I found it to be a good storyline but I feel that the lanuguage was a little elementary. I hear The Notebook also involoves letters, so maybe Sparks is trying to re-live his fame, but hey, I liked it, it kept me interested, and now I am on to The Notebook.
Rating: Summary: What a shame !!!!! Review: I've never been so disapointed about a book before. Like everybody else who has read "The Notebook" I was expecting at least an interesting story. But the book is boring, the characters are boring, the plot is boring.... I really hope that Sparcks could give himself another chance and write a third book. It is the only way we would realize if he is a writer or just a lucky fellow.
Rating: Summary: If you like sad books, this is the only one Review: I loved this book. It was very sad, however, there was a hope at the end that is not usually found. It was the best book I've ever read; it actally made me sob.
Rating: Summary: Yearning for more! Review: I was left yearning for something a little deeper. I loved The Notebook, and feel that Sparks has the touch, but maybe lacked the time to create this into a timeless love story. Good read, tear-jerker in the end!!
Rating: Summary: How could he get away with this?!? Review: I didn't want to judge this novel too harshly, but then I read Sparks' first novel and was aghast at how he rehased so much of it into this one. It was the worst deja vu to read almost whole paragraphs reused in similar scenes, word for word. Although I read The Notebook second, I enjoyed it more than this book which seemed formulaic in the most embarrassing way for a 2nd bestselling novel.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable read Review: As did many other people, I bought this book because The Notebook was so perfectly written. Message in a Bottle is an o.k. read; I stayed interested from beginning to end. But, I had difficulties with perspective shifts from one paragragh to the next and truly found the ending hard to believe. Someone as smart as Garrett Blake seemed to be would not do what he did. The characters were fairly well drawn, I could picture them in my head easily enough. Too predictable at the beginning and too far out at the end. I admit, I did shed a few tears while reading the last letter, but it's not a book I'll plan on visiting again as I do The Notebook.
Rating: Summary: Another masterpiece Review: This is another excellent book by Mr. Sparks. I had the same reaction this time. he is slowly becoming my favorite author. Yet again I will be passing this along to my best friends. I was good this time and I didn't let myself cry until the last few pages (mainly because my boyfriend was in the room and I wouldn't have been able to live it down. If you liked his first book, definitely get this one. If you haven't read either of them, run out and get them now!!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Review: This book was very intense. The author keeps you wanting more, he takes a lonely divorced women with an adolecent boy who is always on the run and has no time for herself, and lets her find out she can love again and she doesn't have to be alone in the world, she can go on and fall in love again. I enjoyed this book very much, it is a great love story that is not so hard to achieve.
