Rating: Summary: Good, but disappointing Review: After reading the Notebook I thought I had found a great author, but my expectations weren't met with Message in a Bottle. Too much like The Bridges of Madison County or Sleepless in Seattle, this was a cliched book about an unlikely event. It was a decent read, but I expected more from the man who wrote The Notebook, and the ending was far from happy.
Rating: Summary: Two thumbs up! Way up! Review: Wow! What a wonderful story! It was my first Nicholas Sparks book and I must say that I am truly amazed! I definately won't be my last. I read this book in 24 hours. I couldn't put it down. I fell in love all over again. Garett and Theresa had a wonderful thing that many people long for. I highly recommend this wonderful tear-jerker!
Rating: Summary: Best of the Best ( says it all ) Review: I have read both of his books and can't wait to read the next (hopefully soon). He has a great talent, wish more writers could write like this but I haven't found one yet!!! Sparks catches you from the very beginning and just pulls you in from there on out until the end, which leaves you feeling AWESOME can't find the words to describe the feeling! You'll just have to read both and find out for yourself!!!
Rating: Summary: I really liked the book but......... Review: I enjoyed reading the book, in fact, I couldn't put it down. However, I couldn't fall in love with Garrett. He was too insecure. Him not being able to be alone even for one day got me sick to my stomach. Theresa would not have lasted with a man like that. I love the fact the the book didn't end the way I would have predicted. A great read, but the male character needed to be more realistic.
Rating: Summary: Good, sweet romance, thought provoking ending Review: Good book by Nicholas Sparks, not as good as the notebook but still a good book to recommend.
Rating: Summary: One of the most horrible pieces of trash I've ever read Review: This book was just so awful. I wasted both time and money on it. I first read The Notebook and hated that. I thought I would give Sparks a chance to redeem himself with Message in a Bottle. (I can't understand how it is a NY Times Bestseller. I also can't fathom other readers' reviews of Message in a Bottle in which they say they loved The Notebook and were disappointed in Message.) They were both such drivel. Its frightening and sad that so many people would love these books. Obviously they don't know good writing..... Sparks certainly isn't familiar with it either. There was not one single creative thread to the story. It was laughable! It was a joke how either Garrett or Theresa was always getting "tight in the stomach" every few pages or so. Rather than convey the "feeling" with different words, Sparks chose to use the same trite phrase over and over and over again. Quite simply, I haven't anything good to say about it. It was overly simplistic and shallow. If Sparks can write a bestseller, I shouldn't have any problem writing my own. The publishers ought to be ashamed, but I guess they are too busy laughing all the way to the bank, as is Sparks. I just re-read To Kill a Mockingbird...... now that's a wonderful book!
Rating: Summary: Drivel Review: Pure nonsense. Neither character is believable or displays any redeeming qualities. Self absorbed and sappy. The story line is complete foolishness. Mr. Sparks is mediocre, at the very best. Ugh.
Rating: Summary: If your a romantic, this one is for you Review: Every once in a while we all need a good lump in your throat, hanky twisting, nose running love story. Nicholas Sparks certanily delivers it in Message in a Bottle.... Can't wait for his next offering
Rating: Summary: Sweet and hopelessly romantic! Review: This is the first Nicholas Sparks book I have read, and it won't be my last! Light and easy to read, I finished it in one day. Predictable? Sure. Heart-touching and very romantic? You bet! If you're looking for a well-written, sweet love story, this is the book for you!
Rating: Summary: FALLS SHORT! Trite, sugary, over-done wanna-be tear-jerker. Review: Too many coincidences. If you believe in modern day fairy tales...this is your cup of tea. I felt that it was overly done. This was a highly stylized knock-off of a previous book, The Bridges of Madison County. Except now, instead of BRIDGES, it's BOATS. It's all been done!!! The characters are definitely out of central casting. BUT, if you are in the mood for a sapppy summer read/beach book, without any thought required, I guess you could do worse. Majorly improbable plot....on many levels. Sparks takes the reader through bumpy twists and turns...and asks the reader to believe in all the incredible detours along the way..NO WAY would a sophisticated reader go for this. I feel that Sparks was waiting for a movie deal as he wrote this one, maybe even with the leading players chosen????? Too sugary....too sappy...take some insulin....before trying to buy into this love story. The ending was there for all to see by the end of chapter one.
