Summary: This book was not worth the paper it's printed on!
Review: I thought that this book was poorly written, unbelievable, and that the characters were under developed. It was recommended to me by a relative so I rushed out and got it the next day. I won't even tell her I read it because I'd be embarassed to tell her what I thought of it.

I am a 35 year old woman who thought that the dialogue was ridiculous, the characters childish and immature, and the plot totally unbelievable. I didn't even cry at the end; it was so predictable (and overdone)! I bought this book in hardback and now wish I'd have saved the money to go see the movie, which, for once, looks more promising than the book!

Summary: Another one!
Review: Yet another novel that sat on the best seller lists forever and got a movie made with some of the best names in Hollywood. Unfortunately they had to rewrite the whole thing because the novel wasn't worth the paper it was written on. If you read The Bridges of Madison County or The Horse Whisperer, you've already read this shameless copycat. Don't bother reading it again.

Summary: "A fabulously romantic tear-jerker!"
Review: This book was truly one of the best I've read in a LONG time. The circumstances which brought Theresa and Garrett together were fascinating. The characters were all very well written and defined throughout the pages. I honestly could not put this book down and am anxious for Mr. Sparks to keep putting out such moving and emotional books.

Summary: No-stars would be a better description
Review: This is the sappiest book I've read since "Bridges of Madison County". I can't believe it is a bestseller! The characters are unbelievable, the prose is cliche-filled and wooden, and the plot line is not only predictable, it's boring too! I can't believe anyone enjoys drivel like this.

Summary: Story of loves lost and hope. A real page turner to the end.
Review: As I sat down to read a couple of chapters and the next thing I know, I'd finished the book! Nicholas Sparks is a truly gifted writer who understands the human soul. Message in a Bottle is about heartbreak, rebirth and hope. The characters are real. The reader is drawn into the lives of Garrett and Thersea and is able to know them intimately. It is an electrifying and emotionally draining experience. I was left with the feeling that no matter what hand life deals you, there is hope. I will be more carefull the next time I walk on the beach, who knows; I may just find my own "message in a bottle."----- Tangie Wooden

Summary: I really liked the book.
Review: I am so glad that I read the book before seeing the movie. In my opinion, the movie was an abortion of the book. It was good, but would have been better had I not read the book first. The only similarities were the fact that they met, finally fell in love, and he died in a boating accident. The details were quite different. Teresa met Garrett (two t's in the book) by first going to his shop not his home. She did not meet Dodge until after Garrett died. Teresa's son's name was Kevin in the book not Jason, and he was older. Catherine was hit by a car and killed, and there was no mention of her family. There was definitely no on-going family feud. These are just a few of the differences between the book and the movie.

I liked the movie, but the book was much better.

Summary: One Big Disappointment
Review: After reading The Notebook, I was really looking forward to reading Message in a Bottle...I thought for sure it would be as good, if not better, but was I ever wrong. I received the audio book as a gift, so I decided to try that out instead of reading the book. Maybe that was my first mistake. I listened to it straight through, and I didn't shed a single tear. The story just wasn't filled with the emotions that The Notebook had. I was hoping for something at least a little uplifting...this story doesn't hold a candle to Sparks' first novel. Maybe it is better when you read it for yourself. At any rate, I don't recommend the audio version.

Summary: Not wonderful literature, but a great read
Review: I am so surprised at the mixed reviews. For every review of someone saying is was the best book they ever read, there is another saying it is complete garbage. Amazing.

I thought this was a good story. It was a little predictable, not terribly imaginative writing, and a little dull in parts, but a good read altogether. I found it easy to continue, wondering what would happen next, not anticipating the ending, and touched by the characters. Again, no literature awards, but a good story. GREAT BEACH BOOK!!!

Summary: sad story
Review: The story was was a quick and easy read (finished it on a sunday afternoon with plenty of time for chores, etc!) but The plot was VERY far fetched, character development flat, and the ending was absurd, manipulative, and in my opinion cheapened the story and made it seem pointless.

if you want to read a book, just to feel sad, and not much else, then this is the novel for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for a well written story that you can learn from, then look elsewhere.
