Rating: Summary: A far cry from Shakespeare, but a fun read anyway! Review: I enjoyed this book in spite of the fact that the quality of the writing was almost embarrassing at times. I give the author credit for creating unique and interesting story lines ( I felt the same way about The Notebook), but he definitely needs a better editor! I thought, however, that there were moments of very good writing. Essentially, it was an easy, enjoyable book with a worthwhile message about living our lives in the present. Not all writing has to be Shakespeare to be worth our time.
Rating: Summary: Romantic yet flawed Review: Message in a Bottle was a great romantic diversion after reading some not-so-light reading. However, even though I am a romantic at heart & look so forward to reading this, I found the character of Theresa flawed and a bit of the storyline flawed. Why wasn't Theresa plagued with some guilt at the end? Why was the description of the Happenstance at the end touched upon a little more. Why did the events at the end of the book happen so quickly, like a flash before my eyes? It seems as if Mr. Sparks needed to end his book quickly, and I found it quite a disappointment!
Rating: Summary: Highly overrated, mawkish Review: A totally predictable, shallow, overly clever and underplotted piece of mawkish sentimentallity. I kept reading it just because I knew I was SUPPOSED to find the story affecting, but wasn't even able to come up with a single tear at the ending. If Sparks's ambition is to join the ranks of one-dimensional romantic novelists, he's going to have to improve a little. I'll be sure and pass up "The Notebook."
Rating: Summary: A dazling story! Review: Not only a journey out to sea, but the adventures of two people's love for one another. You explore their passion for life and being together, and feel their pains of separation. You learn that living life to its fullest is the single most important thing to life. With that, miracles can happen and dreams come true. Going out to dinner, sleeping until noon, and being served brekfast in bed are all nice things, but nicer than words can describe is reading a letter from the one you've given your heart to. As you read several of these letters in Message In a Bottle, you are inspired to be a better person.
Rating: Summary: Unlikely but not Impossible Review: The story may be unlikely to ever happen, but not impossible, and that's what makes it so special. It's something that you would never imagine really happening to anyone, but if it did wouldn't it be great... I think it's a book worth reading and someday I'll probably read it a second time.
Rating: Summary: Not brilliant literature, but fun to read! Review: I'm having a lot of very real problems in my life right now and this book seemed to be a nice escape for me. I loved The Notebook, what a wonderful story. This one doesn't have the plot and seems too sappy and unbelievable at times, but still a fun book to read!!
Rating: Summary: Depends on what you're looking for... Review: ...you will either love this or hate this. I fall into both camps, that is why I gave it a 3. The good points...easy, mindless entertainment. A good read for when you have some time on your hands and your brain is tired. The bad points...poor writing, predictable scenarios, terrible ending. I found I didn't really like Theresa although I did feel sorry for her because of her past. She just didn't seem like an honest person and I felt like she was manipulating Garrett. The plot line was just too neat and tidy...everything fell into place a little too easily. I was able to predict everything before it happened...except the end. During parts of this book I didn't want to put it down. Other parts were boring...it took me awhile to even get into the book. At the end I felt let down. Am I sorry I read it? No. Would I read it again? No.
Rating: Summary: Enough to make anyone seasick. Review: The fact that this literary tripe has spent so many days on the bestseller lists convinces me that American taste has truly sunk to the lowest common denominator. I had to check the verso page of this to see if I was reading a foreign translation. I couldn't believe that a book so poorly written could be accepted by a publisher. Shame on you!
Rating: Summary: This book is extremely romantic! Review: Although the vocabulary and sentence structure were simple, Sparks touches the heart with "Message In A Bottle." I have never read a book that touched me the way this one did. I absolutely adored this it! If you are a romantic at heart like I am then you will definitely enjoy this book. Don't forget the tissues.
Rating: Summary: This was pure drivel. Review: Unfortunately, this sappy "love" story somehow escaped a thorough copyediting. The plot was full of sentimental cliches and melodramatic writing that at certain moments it was painful to read. The ending also went overboard (no pun intended) on the irony of life.
