Summary: Teary?
Review: I'd decided to give the movie a miss, thinking that it was "one of those soppy AND predictable stuff" and it never crossed my mind to read the book until I read Nicholas Sparks' The Notebook.

I already had a gist of what the story would turn out to be (thanks to a reviewer on Amazon.com who gave the story away) but decided to sit through it anyway.

Again, like The Notebook, I found it a captivating tale which made me want to continue to read and read and read. A lady giving herself another chance at love, together with a man who lost his love of a lifetime, is something that a lot of us can relate to.

Nicholas had stirred our hearts and minds by putting together very touching prose which speaks of a love so great and beautiful that it makes one wonder, just where can we find a love like that?

The plot is nothing brand new but still, the tale holds you and makes you ask for more. Theresa and Garrett are both very believable and realistic characters who are torn between very human issues. My heart went out to them, albeit I found it a little strange that they would have such dilemmas at the crossroad of their union.

A very heart-warming book but you can save those tissues. The Notebook is far more heart-wrenching.

Summary: Message in a Bottle is an outstanding book
Review: I'm not a big reader, but happen to read an excerpt of another book of Nicholas Sparks in Good Housekeeping. Then I purchased Message in a Bottle. This is the best book I think I ever read. He keeps you interested throughout the entire book, and he ends them in the most unexpected way that you could ever imagine. His writing technique makes you feel what the characters feel. I could feel the way Teresa felt throughout the book. This is a real tearjerker. If you love romance with some suspense, you'll love this book. I cried my eyes out while reading this. If Nicholas Sparks is anything like his characters in his books, then he must be a wonderful person.

Summary: A melodrama to the extreem...
Review: Message in a Bottle lacks the emotional power that Sparks enerated in his excellent novel, The Notebook. Meager character development, the lack of crisis and tedium makes this 288 pages book like going sailing without wind - listless and boring. The exchange between the key characters is often insipid ("you were kinda quite tonight" she said. "I guess I didn't have much to say." He said. She took his hand, "I am glad you were with me." "Yea" he said.") and the trite dialogue between these two lovers often make you wince.

The melodrama begins with a mid-aged, lonely, single mother (Theresa) kicking at the waves along the shores of Cape Cod. When, lo and behold, she finds a corked bottle that floats into her life. A bottle that contains a lamenting (and quite pathetic) love letter. He whines and pines over his lost true love, his soul-mate and lost wife -"Catherine". As a budding co-dependent she avidly reads each wailing word, and is deeply touch by Mr. Bottleman. Any man that you would force to read Mr. Bottleman's poetic letter would quickly suspect that it was wrote after the said writer drank the contents of the bottle he was about to use - Cutty Shark. So what is an accomplished, educated and cosmopolitan co-dependant woman to do (the right answer is to throw the bottle and message back into the sea without the cork)? Why, she finds out where Mr. Bottleman lives (Wilmington, NC) and begins her journey of finding this man, a man with emotional depth, the man who can offer her finally, for once, dear God just once, the same kind of love she has to give (folks you are going to need a few bottles yourself to get to the end of this book). Does she find him. Yes!

Does she find the deep, self-sacrificing love that only Mr. Bottleman can offer? Of course not - he goes stupid on us and sails into the gail of the decade. Not Recommended.

Summary: The worst book I ever read!
Review: The writer has no talent! The only fascinating part of the book is the plot, which became the skeleton of a movie with same title. The descriptions of the sceneries are inaccurate and tastless. The characters are not well-developed. After I finally finished the book, I felt like the author wrote this book in a kind of rush as if he was participating in a speed-writing contest, and quanlity of the work doesn't matter! 370 pages of trash!

Summary: Better than the Movie
Review: I read this book after I saw the movie (which is the order I prefer) and found it better than the movie (which is usually the case). The story was touching and the characters more fully developed than the movie (again, usually the case). I would actually rate this at 4 1/2 stars if I could. Not 5 because I think The Notebook is a better story. This is definitely worth the read.

Summary: A melodramatic soap opera
Review: Overall, I liked this book-I truly did; however, the context of the story and the whole chain of events was just too melodramatic! The idea of finding a message in a bottle, falling in love with a man you have never met, and spending your vacation pursuing a fantasy across the distance, is just too much! In real life, it could lead to a lot more than fun and adventure; it could be "down-right dangerous"! Just because a guy writes beautiful letters and is madly in love with his deceased wife, does not mean he would be a great catch. Ted Bundy was portrayed as "the nice guy next door, and he was a serial killer. If the author could have presented his idea in a more realistic fashion, the book would have been more meaning. The ending was very touching, poignant and could not help but bring a tear to your eye, especially the message from the deceased wife. The context of the story was good, but the manner in which it was written came across as little more than a fairy tale without the "happy-ever-after" ending.

Summary: Sailing On A Love Story
Review: Haven't you ever wanted to find a message in a drifting bottle? Wondering how far it has travelled to find you? Who could have written it?

In "Message In A Bottle", Nicholas Sparks gives us a disillusioned Theresa Osborne on a needed vacation at Cape Cod. She discovers just that....an intriguing letter twisted into an exquiste bottle. From there, she tracks down the writer, Garrett, in North Carolina.

The development of their relationship is like surfing on one's deepest emotions. Curling and rolling and smashing ashore.

Simplistic yet satisfying IF you allow yourself to believe in destiny and the fate of the winds.

Thanks--CDS

Summary: My Message.
Review: Message in a Bottle has captured my heart and leaves us feeling that true romance still exsists. I Reccommend this title because it is a great easy read and the character involvment leaves you with a sense of actually being there (most important) even for the toughest of romance critics. Nicholas Sparks has certainly done a great Job in writing this novel. Well Done.

Summary: Horrible Book
Review: This book would have been very good, had it not been for the Garret character. He was so selfish and so un relatable I just could not stand it! All he thought about was himself, wanting her to move were he lived, HELLO? Do you have any feelings at all! I really loved the ending though it was the only good part. I'm not talking about him missing his wife whom died and that being the reason he was distant (that wasn't a give away) He was just a horrible person, who did not deserve to have theresa.

Summary: A Moving book
Review: This book focuses on two characters. One who had found true love and lost his wife and another who divorced had never known true love. A letter in a bottle found while jogging on a beach starts her journey to love. This book tries to show us the power of true love....and that it can happen more than once to the same person. The the message provides hope to the romanatics; it is a sad telling.
