Summary: Fantastic!!
Review: I bought this book in the airport and read it from start to finish on a ten hour airline flight to Paris. I like Jeanne Ray's books and agree with her comparison of Cate being a Jane Austenish heroine. A lot like Emma, Cate is funny, witty, and clever, and always figures out productive ways to solve problems. In the first chapter she is confronted with the task of ridding the wedding of the bride's drunk ex-boyfriend. she does this with style and grace, without involving a ton of people to create drama. It is so nice to read about a character who doesn't feel sorry for herself. Furthermore, it was nice to know that there are other girls out there who are Always the Bridesmaid - and it's not that big of a deal. A great book for anyone who is looking for fun!

Summary: A one sitting read
Review: I bought this book planning to read it on my Spring Break. I decided to start it a little early never imagining I would come close to finishing before my trip. I ended up reading the whole book in one day - it was that good. I couldn't put down. Lyles is so talented, I was stunned to find that this was her first novel. All of the trials Cate goes through are so real, and hilarious. I could definitely see this book as a movie. I hope Lyles plans to write more, especially about Cate and Ethan! and I guess I'll have to order another book for my trip!

Summary: It's about time!
Review: I can see why this book was picked by Cosmo for one of its book club summer reads. Fast paced and truly hilarious, it is a book modern women can relate to, even if they haven't been a bridesmaid.

It's not just about weddings, but also about the confusion so many women face in dating. Most of us have had the misfortune of dating a No- Call Paul, waiting for the phone calls and trying to figure him out.

I've carried the bouquet and spent a fortune on bridesmaid garb, and it's about time someone spoke on behalf of all bridesmaids! Many thanks to Ms. Lyles.

Summary: For All of Us Bridesmaids Out There...
Review: I loved, loved, loved Lyles' ALWAYS THE BRIDESMAID. As both a San Diego native and a bridesmaid in four upcoming weddings, I couldn't believe how close this struck home. She captures the hilarity and the chaos of weddings as well as the headache that comes with being a bridesmaid...all in my favorite town. In Cate Padgett, Lyles has truly created a modern-day Jane Austen heroine.

Summary: good from cover to cover
Review: I usually read more serious stuff, but bought this one for a change.

I attended four wedings this summer and found myself luaghung out loud at all of Lyles details that were so dead on. Also loved the cat and the hilarious scenes with the mother. A good solid read with comedy, a touch of heartbreak, and some good matrimonial lessons.

Summary: Vapid -- And That's When It's Readable
Review: I, too, was stuck without a book during a recent weekend trip. I picked this up, read forty pages and (fortunately) fell fast asleep.

Rather than waste keystrokes, I refer you to the April 2nd and March 19th reviews. Couldn't agree more.

Summary: Quite entertaining
Review: In just a few months, San Diego kindergarten teacher Cate Padgett has earned a Purple Heart as she has served in combat, being a bridesmaid at four weddings. Besides purchasing gifts that the members of the Cheney energy task force could not afford and buying and wearing one time use ugly dresses, Cate also attends boring bachelorette galas.

Cate is sick of helping others on their trip down the aisle. She feels ready to plan her own wedding. However, she wonders whom she should encourage as her mate. Should she select the centerfold hunk "No Call Paul" or her faithful companion dependable nice guy Ethan? That is assuming either would even walk down the aisle with the perpetual ALWAYS THE BRIDESMAID.

Fans of contemporary tales will find the amusing ALWAYS A BRIDESMAID quite entertaining especially the scenes leading up to and occurring at a wedding. Readers will recognize the diva from hell, the drunk who was stoned before arriving, and other disasters that typically make up a decent sized wedding ceremony. Though who should prove the victor between the rivals is too obvious to everyone as Paul's ego is bigger than the Pacific Ocean, making him the top discerning fan a loser. Still this is Cate's choice so that the audience will have to read this amusing charmer to decide whether either one is the groom or if there even is one in this unhappily unmarried chick lit tale.

Summary: A fun read...
Review: It took me just a few days to read this book. I enjoyed the authors style, sense of humor and the main characters quest for love while all her friends are getting married.

There are scenes in this book that made me laugh and some that made me feel sorry for Cate, being the last single girl in her group of wedding planning friends. I liked the character of Cate, and thought she was written very well. She is real and flawed and funny.

If you have ever been a bridesmaid, you will certainly relate to purchasing a hideous gown (or several of them) you probably will never wear again, the elaborate decorations of the weddings, the bachelorette party in Vegas and spending tons of money on a present for the happy couple who so considerately registered at Crate and Barrel for their expensive gifts.

Great book, great author.

Summary: Refreshing!
Review: My book club selected this book. At first I thought it would be another chick-lit book with a heroine who is uncomfortable with her weight, obsessses over shoes, and feels sorry for herself because she has no love life and hates her job. I was very pleased to find that it had none of these characteristics at all. It was very refeshing to read about a character who has flaws, as all humans do, but is dealing with a unique set of problems. Wedding hell. This is a hilarious, quick read that will make people think twice before they go to a wedding, get drunk and dominate the dance floor.

Summary: It made me laugh out loud more than once!!!
Review: My criteria for judging romantic comedy is whether or not it truly makes me laugh. Whitney Lyles made me laugh out loud more than once in ALWAYS THE BRIDESMAID. I chuckled audibly at least once in almost every chapter and then found my self laughing myself to sleep and then continuing to laugh again and again for days as different scenes from this extremely engaging novel kept flashing back to bring seemingly endless moments of pleasure. Five stars isn't a strong enough recommendation for this book if you into fun and funny reading. I'll be first in line for the next Whitney Lyles book.
