Summary: Unforgettable
Review: Anita Shreve is one of the most prolific authors of our time. How she manages to keep up her professorial work at Amherst College while simultaneously weaving these masterful tales is amazing to me. I began reading her works thanks to Oprah's book club pick of "Pilot's Wife." I have now read all of her books but "Resistance." I couldn't wait to read "The Last Time They Met." I was not disappointed. I was hooked from the first page and could not put it down. I read and re-read the ending. Only Shreve could concoct this beautifully written story. I can't wait to read "Resistance." I love all of her work and my entire group of friends is now reading her as well!

Summary: Better ways to get this story
Review: If you want to read about the anguish of adultery, try Anna Karenina. If you want to read about Africa, try Out of Africa. If you want star crossed teenaged lovers, try Romeo and Juliet. If you want a twist ending, rent The Sixth Sense. Put all that together and you'll still come out ahead over buying or reading this book. It's got great themes, they've just all been done,,,,and way better I might add.

Summary: CALL ME CONFUSED, TOO
Review: I, like some other readers, was confused by this book. I started skimming about a third of the way through. Then I thought I was going to be disappointed if the ending was good. As I got closer to the end, however, I realized there was not to be a happy ending. When I finished, unlike other readers, I didn't feel like going back and rereading from the beginning. I got bogged down a little too much in all the references to Africa. I have not read Shreve's other works, but I will likely skip them now.

Summary: Love and Betrayal
Review: The writing pulled me in right from the beginning, with its detailed description of both the people and the locale. I was pulled along looking for the clues that helped to explain the complex relationships. I would certainly recommend this book and at the same time I was let down in the end. While I could appreciate some of the reasons that an author might pick this path, I felt another road would have been truer to the story.

Summary: The Last Time They Met
Review: When I first started reading 'The Last Time They Met' I thought it was going to be a same old romance novel. However, the further I got into it - the far more interesting it became. It is one of those books that you have to stick with - each chapter gets better and better. I must admit however, the first few chapters were quite dauting and it was easy to lose track of what was happening.

I loved the way the story was told from the present to the past -and especially enjoyed the twist at the end. It is a story that I have thought alot about since finishing the book and found it to be rather touching.

Summary: I WAS CONFUSED
Review: Anita Shreve has talent for sure. She is a wonderful writer. However, I was disappointed by the ending..not because I always have to have a happy ending...but because it totally made everything I read non-existant. Even in the confines of the story..these things..these lives never really happened..and I guess I resent that.

Summary: I don't quite get it
Review: I have read all of Anita Shreve's novels and liked each of them-esp Strange Fits of Passion. This one I just didn't quite get. I felt the ending was a real let down and left me feeling that I had wasted both my time and money on it. Her style of writing is wonderful and the book held my interest but the ending ruined it. What was the point to the story?

Summary: A long read
Review: I had to look twice to make sure I had not written the review from Naples, Florida. My comment-- Ditto. A complete waste of time and money. The "Pilot's Wife" was such a great story-- I felt sure this would be of equal quality. WRONG!! I guess I was given thought to wonder how many kids in high school speak in such literary phrase. None that I can recall. Will definitely read Amazon's reviews before I purchase anymore of her books.

Summary: totally confused
Review: I have read and thoroughly enjoyed her previous books. The beginning was a little slow, but once I got into it I found myself enjoying it,until the END!!!Can someone PLEASE explain what happened???? Was it real or just symbolic. I am SO confused and frustrated that I feel like I don't want to read any more of her books!!!!

Summary: More Than I Ever Expected
Review: I loved Weight of Water, so buying this book was easy - but, from the description, I didn't expect much more than a delicate, well written love story. I was very surprised. The story, of course, was well told and interesting but the ending was such a shock, I just sat there for a moment, wondering if I was not understanding the words. When I realized I had understood, I went right back to the book to look up certain parts to see if I'd missed a clue somewhere. But I don't think I had. What a good book. I loved it.
